Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw Fri 04/19/13 To Sun 04/21/13
Georgia State University Opera Theatre and Symphony Orchestra - Rialto Series
The Turn of the Screw is considered by many to be Benjamin Britten's finest opera. This masterly chamber work, based on the novel by Henry James, revolves around a governess newly employed at the country manor, Bly, and her vulnerable wards Miles and Flora. When she sees spectral images on the estate grounds, stories surface of her predecessors' demise. Are these the ghosts of Peter Quint and Miss Jessell come to collect the souls of her charges? Or is the governess so terrified that her nightmares appear as reality? Set in dark corners of Victorian England, this mortal-and amoral-battle will be staged by Carroll Freeman, accompanied by the GSU Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Michael Palmer. FREE PRE-OPERA LECTURE by Dr. James Cooney, one hour prior to each performance. This is a Rialto Series performance. Subscriptions are on sale NOW - click here.
