A Super Delegate Switch and Big Money for Hillary

By Jamie Dupree

A day after watching one of her early supporters in the Congress switch to Team Obama, Hillary Clinton got some good super delegate news of her own and a big financial report as well.

After being soundly beaten by Barack Obama in fundraising in January, Hillary Clinton raised eyebrows by lending her campaign $5 million.  It was evidence many said that her campaign was in deep trouble.

But Team Clinton turned that totally around in February, raising over a million dollars a day, $35 million in all for the month.  While that can't compete with the Fundraising Machine Known As Obama, it still offers some hope to the Clinton camp for March 4th.

Clinton had raised $14 million in January, a big number, until you consider that Obama hauled in an astounding $36 million.

No matter how much more Obama raised this time, the fact is Democrats are bringing in an almost insane amount of money early in the Presidential race, leaving Republicans far behind in the money chase.

As for the March 4th states of Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont, Obama has the edge in terms of advertising so far, spending over $7 million to $4.5 for Clinton.

But that's much better than Super Tuesday was for Clinton in terms of ad dollars, where Obama was on the air in ten more states, paving the way for a series of victories that day.

It wasn't the only good news for Clinton of the day, as she actually got a superdelegate switch of her own on Thursday, a day after Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) went from Clinton to Obama.

This time, it was an El Paso (Texas) County Commissioner Veronica Escobar who switched from Obama to Clinton.

Obviously it isn't as big as the Rep. Lewis switch, but good news is good news.

Whether it is too little, too late, we shall see next Tuesday.
