As I took a few days off around Easter, I tried to get away as much as possible from the daily slings and arrows in the Barack Obama-Hillary Clinton Battle, but like clockwork, the jabs go on with no sign that they'll end anytime soon.
In recent days we've had someone on the Obama side compare Bill Clinton to Joe McCarthy, there was James Carville smacking Bill Richardson over his endorsement of Obama and more.
(Carville incidentally, is refusing to apologize for comparing Richardson to Judas.)
Add to that, Hillary Clinton got skewered over her claim that she landed in Bosnia under sniper fire, and the Democratic race continues to be lively, day after day.
Clinton tried her best to downplay the Bosnia story, telling reporters, "I made a mistake. That happens. It shows I'm human, which for some people is a revelation."
Something tells me that Hillary is going to have the Bosnia-sniper thing thrown in her face for awhile, if not by the Obama camp, then by the talk shows and the press in general.
Trying to take the spotlight off their own troubles, Team Clinton threw some zingers at Team Obama, blasting the candidate for a series of his own "exaggerations and misstatements" which included - and I am not making this up - "Obama misspoke about his being conceived because of Selma."
Here is the operative quote from a Clinton press release issued on Tuesday:
"Mr. Obama relayed a story of how his Kenyan father and his Kansan mother fell in love because of the tumult of Selma, but he was born in 1961, four years before the confrontation at Selma took place. When asked later, Mr. Obama clarified himself, saying: 'I meant the whole civil rights movement.'" [New York Times, 3/5/07.]"
The other one that caught my eye was, "Sen. Obama consistently and falsely claims that he was a law professor."
Phew. Glad we got all that dirty laundry out there, eh?
As for Obama, he's been hanging poolside in the Virgin Islands, getting in a little Rest and Relaxation with his wife and kids. Today he returns to the campaign trail in North Carolina, where the polls show either a very close race, or Obama up by over 20 points.
I would recommend splitting the difference and going from there.
Meanwhile, I need to check out the email that I just got that says I won the lottery in Uganda.
