Rev. Wright Is Back

Previous Posts

By Jamie Dupree

After going completely underground since his infamous National Press Club appearance back in the Spring, it almost seemed like the controversy over the former minister of Barack Obama was going to stay on the QT through Election Day.

But now a political action committee called the National Republican Trust has rolled out a thirty second ad that seeks to tie Rev. Jeremiah Wright directly to Barack Obama in the final days of this campaign.

Here is the text of the commercial:

"For 20 years Barack Obama followed a preacher of hate and said nothing is Wright raged against our country.

[Clip of Rev. Wright:] "Not God Bless America, God Damn America . . . US of KKKA!"

[Quote of Obama appears on screen:] "I don't think my church is particularly controversial."

He built his power base in Wright's church.

Wright was his mentor, adviser and close friend.

For 20 years Obama never complained until he ran for President.

Barack Obama. Too radical. Too risky."

You can see the ad on the internet at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3IAjphhw6E

The advertisement started running on Monday in at least Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania, three key states in the Presidential race, obviously.

Reports indicate that the group is spending around $2.5 million on the ad.

I will be interested to see how the Obama campaign deals with this, whether they demand that McCain denounce the ad, or if they try to soft pedal it, so as not to draw too much attention.

Seven days to go.
