More liberal groups were firing out emails at a high rate on Monday, beating the bushes for donations to make sure that health care reform doesn't go down the legislative tubes in coming weeks, a sure sign of the battle that lies ahead.

"We could still lose this fight," said one missive from MoveOn.org, "And if we do, we won't get another chance."

"We are only weeks away from passing healthcare reform with a public option," wrote Jim Dean from the group Democracy for America, who added, "it's no secret; the final vote is going to be close."

The goal of Dean's group (yes, Jim is the brother of Howard) is to raise $220,000 before Congress returns to work next week, while MoveOn was trying to bring in $250,000 in just 48 hours.

The MoveOn email cited a story from the Associated Press last week that said opponents of health care legislation in the Congress have been outspending backers by 2-to-1 on TV ads on the issue.

The Chamber of Commerce has taken the lead on much of that spending, and expect both sides to spend a lot more in the weeks ahead, targeting much of it in states that Senators who are up for grabs on this issue - Arkansas, Nebraska, Connecticut, Maine, Louisiana and more.

The Senate begins debate again on health care next Monday, November 30.
