The Senate will vote today on a slimmed down, $15 billion jobs bill on Wednesday morning, sending the bill back to the House, but to an uncertain future.
That's because the House has already approved a jobs bill that is more than 10 times the size of the Senate bill.
As we detailed on this blog last week, there are a lot of extras in that bill that Democrats want in a jobs creation plan - and a $15 billion bill doesn't cut it with them.
Democratic leaders in the House admit they have "reservations" about the Senate bill. They could simply accept that plan and try to follow up with other legislation to extend jobless benefits and COBRA health benefits.
So, while today is a step forward for Democrats, it's not the end of the road, as there is more work to do.
One other jobs note today comes from the Congressional Budget Office, which put out a report yesterday on the economic stimulus law.
The CBO review said the stimulus added somewhere between 1 million and 2.1 million jobs by the end of 2009.
As for what worked the best, the CBO listed infrastructure as the best plan in terms of highways and bridges.
Getting the thumbs down was a tax credit for first time homebuyers, which the report said was not the best use of the economic stimulus funds.
