Six Weeks Left

Six weeks from today is Election Day, but with so many jurisdictions opening early voting in coming weeks, the Get-Out-The-Vote battle for November has really already started.

For example, polls in Georgia are open, giving state residents the next six weeks to cast their ballots.

"It is premature to say that John Boehner is going to be Speaker of the House," President Obama told a town hall meeting conducted in Washington, D.C. by CNBC, as the President took a jab at Tea Party supporters and the GOP over calls for big budget cuts.

"The challenge I think for the Tea Party movement is to identify specifically, what would you do?" Mr. Obama asked, revving up his rhetoric for November.

"It's not enough just to say, 'Get control of spending,'" the President added.

After that it was off to Philadelphia, where the President rallied votes for Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA), who trails in the race to replace Sen. Arlen Specter.

Speaking of Specter, he was on the tarmac in Pennsylvania when the President arrived, and was asked by the White House Pool reporter about the state of the Sestak race against former Rep. Pat Toomey (R-PA).

"How do you think Congressman Sestak is doing with his campaign?" the pool reporter from Politico asked.

Specter, after a five-second pause, said, "I'm late for the squash court so I'm gonna defer that to when I can answer in one spot."

"Should I interpret that as not very well?" the reporter asked.

"I'm late for the squash court," Specter said.

Specter's answer could be a reflection of the difficult situation Democrats find themselves in right now in Pennsylvania, where some experts think as many as six Democratic seats in the House could be in danger of switching to the GOP, part of the 39 that Republicans need to take charge of the House.

And if Sestak loses to Toomey, that would be one of the ten seats that the GOP needs to assume command in the Senate.

42 days from Election Day, that type of a double digit win in the Senate still seems like a longshot, but it is not impossible.
