There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for him.   -- Robert Heinlein

BLACK DAY FOR THE LEFT

Those who listen to and make their living from talk radio have something to celebrate today.  The left, they have something to mourn.  It was on this day in 1987 that the FCC rescinded the so-called "Fairness Doctrine."  Under this doctrine broadcast stations had to make time available to all parties to present opposing views on various issues.

The plan made no sense.  In a community with 25 radio stations and only one newspaper it was the radio stations that were forced to present all sides of an issue, while the newspaper went on it's merry way.  Political activists soon found out how to use the "Fairness Doctrine" to harass any broadcast outlet that dared to allow an opinion to be expressed with which they disagreed.  Richard Nixon was heard to brag about how he used this tool to hammer those who criticized him on radio and television.

With the end of the "Fairness Doctrine" talk radio broke through and the AM band was salvaged.  Today radio stations, like newspapers, are free to broadcast without suffering harassment at the hands of those who can't stand the free expression of opinions with which they do not agree.

THEY BURIED WHAT?

U.S. troops and investigators in Iraq have found dozens of fighter jets that Hussein's forces buried in the desert sands of Iraq prior to the allied invasion.  Jets, folks, buried in the sand; and it took us four months to find them.  How much easier do you think it would be to find a buried fighter jet than it would be to find a few thousand liters of chemical weapons?

PHONY

In about three months you will notice that many, if most on the left will be referring to George Bush as a "phony." No specific rational behind the charge will be offered ...

but the word is out.  Call Bush a phony, and keep hammering the "P" word.  Here is a paragraph from a recent story appearing in the leftist Internet website Salon:

The message that Bush is a phony needs to be hammered issue after issue, month after month. We'll know this is working when people start using the term in the checkout queues, the gas pumps, the classrooms, the malls, the churches and living rooms across America.

I wonder how phony the Taliban, the Syrians, Al Qaeda, and Saddam's evil spawn thing Bush is?

THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE MOST IDIOTIC THINGS I'VE EVER READ IN A NEWSPAPER

This paragraph appeared in a New York Times editorial last week:

The nation's prison and jail population rose again last year, to 2,166,260, a record. The increase comes at a time when crime is falling and state and local governments are struggling to close budget deficits. . . . Congress and state legislatures should find ways to reduce the number of people behind bars.

This is the idiocy of liberalism at work.  How perfectly stupid can you get?  And this, my friends, was in a New York Times editorial?  Is this what passes for cogent thought in America's leading leftist newspaper?

Read that paragraph again and you will see that the Times editorialists are just amazed that crime is falling at the very same time our prison populations are increasing.  Would these deep-thinkers observe a large number of rats caught in rat traps and not see this as a reason for the decline in free-roaming rats?

I'm feeling magnanimous today, so maybe we can help the left noodle this out.

  • Criminals commit crimes.

  • When criminals are caught committing crimes they are prosecuted.

  • If the criminals are successfully prosecuted they will be sent to prison.

  • If the criminals are sent to prison the prison population will increase.

  • The more criminals you have in prison the fewer criminals you have on the street.

  • The fewer criminals you have on the street the fewer crimes will be committed.

  • If fewer crimes are committed the crime rate will fall.

Now .. if some of you would clip these bullet points and send them to the brain surgeons at The New York Times perhaps they will stop worrying about there being so many people in prisons.  Me?  I LIKE them there.

MORE OF YOUR GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS AT WORK

This time from Lawrence , Mass.   It seems that the school superintendent in Lawrence has fired about 24 teachers for failing a basic English proficiency test. So far, so good ...

right?  After all, if a government school teacher can't pass a  basic proficiency test in America's most widely spoken language, what business do they have in the classroom?  Remember --- and this is going to rub many of you the wrong way - but remember, in America's colleges and universities those studying for their education degree are usually at the bottom of the academic rankings.  So ...

no real surprise that they can't pass a basic English test.

Now ...

here's the kicker.  The superintendent himself has failed a basic literacy test three times.  He hasn't fired himself though.  He's just sitting back taking his three percent raise.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

We'll be taking about this one today.  Robert Bartley, the editor emeritus of The Wall Street Journal, says that Hillary has to move before 2008 if she really wants to save the Democratic Party.

Thomas Sowell addresses the issue of popularity.  It's amazing what stupid decisions people will make just to be liked.

David Limbaugh takes a fresh look at Bush chances in 2004.  Beyond taxes, the war on terror and some judicial nominations, Bush isn't exactly pleasing a lot of conservatives.

In the City of Atlanta they have a traffic court judge who makes over a quarter of a million dollars a year.   He pulls down a little over $100,000 as a retired traffic court judge, and another $150,000 as a part-time traffic court judge.  Hey .. this type of abuse is so easy for government.  After all, government has the guns, and the taxpayers are getting ready to take it in the back.

Why did so many on the left want to save Saddam Hussein?

Did you know that the Detroit Lions were recently fined $200,000?  And just why were they fined?  They were fined because they recently hired a white coach without interviewing a black for the job.  Here's your link to this John Leo piece.  You need to see just how absurd things can get in the wonderful world of racial PC.

U.S. peacekeeping troops are landing in Liberia today.  Some of them could possibly die.  You need to know a little bit about the recent history of this fourth-rate country.

The people of California want a recall election for Grey Davis.  Grey Davis will now go to court to try to thwart the will of the people of California .  In a sense, they deserve it.  They elected this idiot in the first place.

Does Kobe's accuser have some prior mental problems?  Perhaps so, but Kobe's attorneys are going to have a tough time getting the evidence into court.

Punch Line:
"... because the other day I was walking by my parent's bedroom and my mom had her feet sticking straight up in the air and she was screaming "Oh God, I'm coming," and if my dad hadn't had her pinned down we would have lost her for sure."
