There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for him.   -- Robert Heinlein

THE FAIR TAX

If you've listened to the show for any length of time you will know that I am a huge plan of the idea of replacing the income tax with a consumption tax.  I've been studying and promoting this idea for almost 20 years now.  It's not often that you come across a policy idea with no real downside ...

but this is one.

You can find out almost everything you need to know about the move to eliminate the IRS, repeal the 16th Amendment, and institute in its place a national retail sales tax at http://www.fairtax.org.  Read as much as you can, then imagine what it would be like to keep virtually every penny that you earn, invest tax free, and see prices on consumer goods fall as much as 20% or more!  Add to this the fact that you would receive a rebate from the government equal to the sales taxes that you would be expected to pay every year on the basic necessities of life.

Republican Congressman John Linder is the principal force behind the legislation for a national retail sales tax.  He will be stopping by the Neal Boortz studios today to discuss the idea, its progress on Capitol Hill, and your questions.  This idea could transform this nation.  I believe it could even save our Republic.  Give us a few minutes today to learn more and get your questions answered.

If the Soviet Union can fall, so can the IRS.

BUY THE BOOK ...

KNOW WHAT YOU'RE FACING

Above you will see a link for the book Hillary's Scheme by Carl Limbacher.  Buy it here, buy it there, buy it somewhere.  With every day I become more and more convinced, maybe "concerned" would be a better word, that Hitlary is going to throw her helmet (the one with the pointy little spike on top) into the ring for 2004.

Last night I went to dinner with a friend from Washington .  This individual is plugged in at the highest levels.  He absolutely believes that Hillary will run in 2004.  Couple that with her cagey language on the question, the slide in Bush's popularity ratings, the abysmal performance of the current collection of Democrat candidates and the concern that the Democratic Party nominating process may lead to the nomination of an unelectable candidate ...

and you have Hillary riding to the rescue!

Hillary is trying to position herself toward the center right now.   Witness her vote for the war resolution.  Make no mistake, this dangerous woman is an extreme left wing ideologue.  Those Yale professors who labeled her a socialist knew their stuff.  She is anti-individual and anti-capitalist.  She, like her husband, believes that America is great because of its government.  To Hillary anything worth doing is worth being done by government.  Take all of this and add one more personality trait.  Hillary is vicious.  Virtually every person who has had the misfortune of working closely with this lady, from police officers to household servants to Secret Service agents to aides, agree that she is as mean as they come.  Hillary makes Leona Helmsley look like Julie Andrews.  If the guillotine were legal in the United States , and if Hillary could knit, she would be running the world's largest sweater boutique.

If Hillary runs she will have 95% of the captive black vote, almost 100% of the looney left, and more than 60% of the women.  She will say the things these voters want to hear.  Honesty will mean nothing to her; it never has, and there's no need to change now.  She will carefully control every encounter with the press, surround herself with friendly campaign crowds and hide her snake side from the camera.  In short, she could win.

This is a woman who should have gone to a federal prison for her role in the Casa Grande tax fraud scheme and her lies under oath to congress.  Instead, she may  be heading to the White House.

No, I don't think her candidacy in 2004 is a sure thing.  Something could happen to push Bush's popularity to the stratosphere again.  Our troops in Iraq could find an underground bunker full of chemical weapons.  Someone could attach a JATO bottle to the economy, or the American people could be struck with a sudden sense of reality.

Earlier this week my pal Jamie Dupree was willing to bet $2000 that Hitlary would not run.  Know what?  I'm ready to take him up on that.

Remember.  The average age of a country or society based on individual freedom and society is about 200 or so years.  The United States has beaten those odds ...

so far.  Hillary Clinton could well be the person who ushers in the end of what was the United States of America .  Yea, I fear her that much.

Do you folks have your escape plan.

CALIFORNIA'S NEXT GOVERNOR

The recall election of Grey Davis is going to be quite the political spectacle, unless, of course, Davis manages to use the courts to change California law.  I have finally settled on my choice for his replacement.  I'm going for Arianna Huffington.  I've met Arianna several times.  We both used to attend the Renaissance New Years weekends at Hilton Head Island .  We would discuss how we felt being part of the token conservative delegation in a sea of left-wing Democrats headed by Bill Clinton.  Arianna has now gone over to the dark side.  It would be fun to watch her try out her new left wings at the helm of California's government.  Bad for California ?  Sure, but the California voters have brought this on themselves.  They elected Grey Davis ...

twice.  This is a state were voters will time-after-time reject a candidate for political office, only to elect her when she changes her last name to sound Hispanic.  This is the state of Alec Baldwin, Rob Reiner and Barbra Streisand.  Let them suffer the consequences, we'll sit back and watch Arianna run the show.  It would certainly be a good one.  Her best hope is for California newspapers to stop running her columns.  Even a Californian who has read one of her opinion pieces wouldn't  be able to vote for her.

THE RULE OF LAW

America was formed as a country ruled by law.  The supreme law of our land is supposed to be the United States Constitution.  All actions take by government in this country are supposed to be taken under some authority granted by that Constitution.  One of the principal precepts of our Constitution is that all people are supposed to be treated equally under our law.  The rules apply to everyone, rich and poor, black and white.

Recently the Supreme Court ruled that racial discrimination is just fine when it comes to granting admission to colleges and universities.  Clearly this disparate treatment is not constitutionally proper, but the Supremes got around this by referencing international law and treaties.

Now I've been telling you folks for years that our courts consider treaties to be superior in force and effect to our Constitution.  Many of you have told me that I'm all wet on this one.  OK, fine.  I'm all wet.  So tell me why Justice Ginsberg cited an international treaty in her vote to uphold racial discrimination in college admissions.  Ginsburg also said --- no pay attention --- that the Internet is making decisions of courts in other countries available to be read in the United States .  She says that these decisions should not be ignored.

Is this leftist Justice saying that the Supreme Court is now ruling on American law and our Constitution based in part on the findings of foreign courts?  All this time I have been operating under the assumption that our judges should be interpreting our laws on the basis of the U.S. Constitution.  Now they've included foreign court decisions in their process?

If you're halfway bright and educated you will readily recognize how dangerous this is for the future of our Republic.  If you're not that bright you probably didn't read this far anyway.

AUGUST 6, 1945

You do know what happened on this day in history, don't you?  The Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima .   Japan kept fighting, and a few days later another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki .   Japan surrendered six days later and untold thousands of American lives were saved in what would have had to have been an invasion of the Japanese islands.

Since anti-Americanism is so popular these days, you will undoubtedly hear American condemned for this act.  You will hear that nearly 300,000 people died in these two attacks.  What you won't hear is how many lives were saved.

If it had not been for the fear of a nuclear retaliation by the United States the Soviet communists would have almost certainly invaded the remainder of Europe .  We would have been faced with the prospect of another bloody war to save our European allies.  American had the bomb, and America had already shown that it would use it.

The loss of nearly 300,000 people is certainly tragic, but the millions of lives that most probably were saved is a reason to celebrate the people of the Manhattan Project.

KOBE --- WEARING THIN

So Kobe Bryant was invoking the name of Martin Luther King at this awards ceremony earlier this week?  Is this our indication that Kobe Bryant is going to play the race card in his current Colorado difficulties?  My first hunch was that what we had here was more a case of "damn, I can't believe I did that and my mom and dad are going to find out,"  than it was a case of rape.  If Kobe starts this "they're picking on me because I'm black" nonsense I'm going to have some real doubts about my initial reaction.

In Massachusetts several teachers have been fired because they failed to pass a basic English fluency test.  As Rich Lowry says, they are now following that good old American tradition.  They're suing to get their jobs back.  Government education; gotta love it.

Unlike me, Ben Shapiro doesn't particularly want California to serve as a vibrant bad example for the rest of the country.  He's prepared an excellent little quiz for you about his home state.
