INTEMPERATE THOUGHTS OK, I heard Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore talking yesterday about his battle to keep that Ten Commandments monument in the Alabama Judicial building. Now some of you are going to call this "Christian bashing, " but this guy sounds like a theocrat to me. While listening to him I got the impression that he would be all too willing to take his religious beliefs and have them made law so that others could be compelled by the state to live as he thinks God wants them to. If you closed your eyes you could easily imagine him standing there before those news cameras with a double-fistful of snakes. If you gave this man the power he would shut every retail store in Alabamastan on Sunday. Speaking of religion, it looks like Gray Davis has found God. He's telling California voters that he likes to carry a little card with him that says "Nothing will happen to me today that the Lord and I can't handle together." Just more proof that religion is all-too-often a refuge for scoundrels. Why isn't Bush playing a harder game of ball with our supposed "allies?" Tell them that they wouldn't like us nearly so much if we felt like they weren't pulling their share of the load in fighting international terrorism ... like helping us out in Iraq , for instance. They have Chemical Ali. He's Saddam's cousin. This is the man responsible for killing thousands of women and children, with gas. No mercy. Torture him. Get whatever information you can from him. Then gas him, and make it ugly. Lock him in a hot, sweltering Plexiglas cage in the middle of the Iraqi desert with 72 hyper-flatulent camels. George Bush has now approved the resumption of a program to shoot down civilian aircraft suspected of being involved in the drug trade. Mind you, there need to be no proof that the civilian aircraft was actually involved in drugs ... just a suspicion. No trial, no jury. You do remember that a fighter jet attacked a Cessna in Peru a few years back. A Baptist missionary and her infant daughter died. All for this ridiculous war on drugs. Speaking of airplanes, our 750 WSB morning guy Scott Slade just purchased a brand-spanking new Cessna 182. He has no flights to Peru planned in the near future, but he is going to sell his 1976 Piper Warrior. Believe me, it's been meticulously maintained. Here's your link. http://home.mindspring.com/~n4489x/. I heard Charles Barkley saying that Kobe Bryant is "innocent until proven guilty." Sorry, that's wrong. If (and I doubt it) Bryant did rape that teen queen then he is guilty of rape. The lack of a jury verdict does not make him an innocent person. This "innocent until proven guilty" stuff only applies to government, not to reality. It looking more and more like my wishes will be granted and Bustamante will be elected in California. Arnold 's aids are talking tax increases again. Great! Californians wanted a nice little all-Democrat government, now they have it. Let them keep it for a while longer. Let the whole nation see what a good job these big-government tax-and-spenders do with the world's seventh largest economy. You've read that thousands of old folks are succumbing to the heat in France. Why? Because they don't have air conditioning, that's why. And why don't they have air conditioning? Because electricity is so expensive in that "advanced" nation that most people simply cannot afford it. Oh, by the way ... you can blame government regulation and taxes for the high electricity prices. Our wonderful post office doesn't want to ship donated air conditioners to our troops in Iraq. The reason? The units contain Freon. What do you want to bet that Federal Express wouldn't be so obstinate? Remember, we're dealing with government here. They're getting ready to execute that bastard who shot a doctor outside of his office in Pensacola. The doctor was shot because he does abortions. Now we have the anti-choice crowd and anti-death penalty "activists" are sending death threats to state prison officials. Cretins. Mary Ann Lindley is the editorial page editor of The Tallahassee Democrat. She recently wrote that the fundamental role of government is to "do for the people what the people can't do for themselves." Oh yeah? Well, I can't use a gun to steal your money for my personal use. Does that mean that the government should do this for me? Well, as a matter of fact that's exactly what our government does. OK .. never mind. READING ASSIGNMENTS Are you under 40? You're about to fall off a cliff. A financial cliff. Your retirement plans could get a huge government swirley and go straight down the toilet. Politicians don't care. http://www.opinionjournal.com/columnists/pdupont/?id=110003852 Why did we read so much about "Clinton haters" while Clinton was in office, yet we hear almost nothing about "Bush haters" now? The answer? Because the media loved Clinton , not so for Bush. Here's an excellent column from Johan Goldberg. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/jonahgoldberg/jg20030822.shtml Read about the Atlanta American Idol rejects. Don't you feel sorry for them? http://www.accessatlanta.com/hp/content/entertainment/features/0821idol.html Here's a clever little gadget you can get to automatically record the Boortz show. It's something like a radio Tivo. http://www.nbc5.com/irresistible/2421299/detail.html?z=dp&dpswid=1260382&dppid=65172 Hitlary's campaign advisors are looking for loopholes in the Campaign Finance Reform Act that will allow them to glom on to some soft money. If you're surprised at The Hildabeast's attempts to get around the law, you just haven't been paying attention. http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2003/8/21/141000.shtml OK .. so I gripe a lot about our government here in the U.S. , especially in the area of taxes. I've also mentioned that New Zealand is doing a lot of things right that we're not doing here. But, hey. At least the U.S. Government doesn't tax farts. At least not yet. Gotta say it ... if they did I know a certain board operator and Hummer driver that would need a raise. http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,2635905a10,00.html "we have gone so far in the direction of government growth that this nation has lost sight of its original purpose and dedication to limited government." Herbert London, President of the Hudson Institute. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/GuestColumns/London20030821.shtml Cal Thomas does an excellent job of setting forth some conflicting points of view on the Tenth Amendment controversy in Alabama. To some, the posting of this article will amount to "Christian bashing." http://www.townhall.com/columnists/calthomas/ct20030822.shtml Our morning guy, Scott Slade, is selling his airplane. It's a 1976 Piper Archer and, believe me, it has been maintained meticulously. Interested? Here's your link! http://home.mindspring.com/~n4489x/. Mona Charen. Terrorism is the modern face of evil. Bringing American troops home would be the worst possible response to the terrorist violence in Iraq. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/monacharen/mc20030822.shtml The University of Kansas student newspaper has published some instructions on the right way and wrong way to have a one-night stand. http://www.kansan.com/getstory.aspx?id=d341fb15-a762-4295-931d-4b70c3ae776e |
