WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2003THANK YOU FCTA My deepest thanks to the Fulton County Taxpayer's Association. Last night they honored me with an award for (can you believe this?) community service at a banquet in Atlanta. Actually that award should have gone to the very people who gave it to me. There is no group in the Atlanta area that is quite so effective as the FCTA in fighting for more efficient government and lower taxes. Thank you so much for the honor .. undeserved as it was. COULD THIS BE TRUE? While attending the Fulton County Taxpayer's Association banquet last night the conversation at the head table turned to the privatization of Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport. I knew that Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin's former husband David Franklin at one time had some concessions at Hartsfield. I asked someone in the know, as they say, if that was still the case. I was told that indeed it was ... and that in fact David Franklin now had no less than 10 separate concessions at Hartsfield. Not only that, but Mayor Franklin's children were still earning their living by working in those facilities. Now I'm going to take my own advice and look into this on my own, but wouldn't it go a long way in explaining why Shirley Franklin would rather raise taxes than privatize Hartsfield? YEAH ... IT'S ALL THE FAULT OF THE POLICE The Justice Department is getting into the act in the death of Nathaniel Jones in Cincinnati. Jones was the huge man who, while high on cocaine and other drugs, attacked police. Police fought back, trying to subdue Jones. He was hit with clubs during the process. Later Jones was taken to a hospital where he died. Now for many race warlords it's time to lynch a cop or two. My attitude on people who attack police officers is really very simple. When you assault a law enforcement officer you have given them permission to kill on the spot. There were only two officers present when that now-famous video was shot. When Jones attacked one of them the other would would have been well within his rights to pull a gun and fire. Jones outweighed the officer he attacked by about 150 pounds. He could have overpowered that officer, taken his gun and killed him in just a matter of seconds. The second policeman took the high road though and waded in to try to help subdue the lard ass. Medical reports show that Jones only suffered bruises on the lower half of his body. The medical investigation shows that there was no damage to vital internal organs. This is exactly the way the police are trained. They did what they were supposed to do. They subdued a violent, drugged-up attacker properly. Jones died because he was in no physical condition to attack a police officer. He had an enlarged heart ... probably brought on by his eating habits .. a situation made worse with his drug habit. These police should be exonerated quickly and put back on the job. QUICK ... BEFORE HE GETS SWORN IN ... ... would someone please tell Howard Dean that the Soviet Union went away over a decade ago? Earlier this week Dean, while instructing George Bush on how to handle the situation in Iraq, told us that the real problem was the Soviet Union funneling all those arms into the region. Also, Howard Dean tells us that Bush's records from his years as governor of Texas are locked away in the Bush Presidential Library in College Station. Not so. Bush's records are in the custody of the Texas State Library and, by law, are open to all who wish to see them. Remember though ... Dean is a liberal. Facts don't matter. Transcript DIABETIC REACTION? Give me a break. The lawyer for U.S. Representative Bill Janklow is now claiming that it was a diabetic reaction that caused Janklow to run a stop sign and kill a motorcycle rider in South Dakota. One woman will testify at Janklow's trial that minutes before the accident he passed her on the highway like she was standing still. Did Janklow's failure to eat breakfast after taking an insulin shot cause the speeding too? How about just owning up to what you did instead of making these lame excuses, Congressman Janklow? WHAT TO CALL THE LIBERAL TALK RADIO NETWORK??? How about "Central Air." Catchy, isn't it? That's what they're going to call the new liberal talk radio network that is supposed to start broadcasting next year, just in time for the elections. You see ... this is why liberal talk radio just isn't going to be a ratings success. I've told you that liberals are averse to logic and fact. The truth hurts them almost every time. Now they're going to go on the air with a talk radio network that's supposed to be left-wing ... supposed to be liberal ... and they can't even reflect that fact in their name. From the get-go they have to try to con people by using a name like "Central Air." They're not centrists ... they're leftists, and if they had the courage of their convictions they would identify themselves as such. Oh man ... am I looking forward to this. HOW DO THEY VIEW FREEDOM OF SPEECH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA? Well, we certainly can't speak for everyone at UF, but we do have an insight into the views of Student Affairs vice president Michael Rollo. In a recent column Rollo wrote: "With the right to freely express one's ideas comes the responsibility to serve the community and to work for positive change that increases the opportunities and decreases the disparity for all." Say what? Remember, Michael Rollo is at that magic point in his life where he knows everything. Why I'll bet he would even have the solution to all of our difficulties in the Middle East if the Bush Administration would just call and ask. In about five or ten years, unless he remains at UF as an instructor, Rollo will come to realize how little he actually knew when he wrote this column. His words do, however, give us a glimpse into the thought processes of the left ... those who don't grow out of their college-age immaturity. There really are people in this country who believe that you should not be allowed to open your mouth to express a thought unless that thought somehow promotes a particular agenda ... decreasing disparity, for instance. Maybe Rollo should become one of those much sought-after liberal talk show hosts so that he can put his ideas on free speech into action. "I'm cutting you off, caller, because you aren't saying anything that increases opportunities for someone else." Yeah, that ought to work. READING ASSIGNMENTS Leading off the reading assignments with some good news. An armed robber gets shot and killed by his intended victim. The beautiful Hollywood people had a little gathering at the Beverly Hills Hilton last night. It was billed as "Hate Bush 12/2" Former Clinton deputy chief of staff Harold Ickes presided. You do know that if Republicans were to ever hold an event called "Hate Dean 12/2" all hell would break loose, don't you? And that's just the start ... you need to read this. It looks like the trip to Iraq had a positive effect on Bush's job approval ratings. Perhaps the growing economy helped also. Hitlary's trip to Afghanistan and Iraq? Dick Morris calls it "Hillary's Badwill Tour." Uh oh. Things aren't looking all that good for the hideously flawed Kyoto pact. Now it has been rejected by Russia. This is something that Russia and 99 U.S. Senators agree on. A little light reading. The website of Atlanta Solidarity Now. They want your attendance at a "speak-out" on what they call the "police brutality" visited upon free trade protestors in Miami. Be sure to click on the "about us" link to see who these people really are. People keep asking me to send them the link to the Paris Hilton sex video. Sorry, won't do it. I will give you this link to a Village Voice story about the history of celebrity sex tapes. The man who sued to get "under God" removed from the Pledge of Allegiance is somewhat of a nut case. Why it may very well be a good idea if you stood clear of one out of three women over the age of 45 when they sneeze. In four out of the last five presidential elections I have voted for the Libertarian candidate. Bruce Bartlett, a libertarian, says under our system of electing presidents third parties do nothing but harm the party closest to them. The second in a series from Thomas Sowell on how government busybodies hurt ordinary citizens. Now here's an excellent idea. Scrap the United Nations and create another organization comprised of free democracies. Liberals are complaining about what they call the pro-Bush media. Don't you just love it? Diplomats going on strike because their budgets are cut. Finally France has come up with an idea that makes sense! WorldNetDaily column: Someone will have to pay |
