MOAC

That's an acronym, folks.  It stands for "Mother of all Colds," and that's what I've been hit with.  It was a beautiful day yesterday ... perfect for dragging the Decathlon out of the hangar ... but nooooooo.  There I sit wrapped up in blankets in front of the fireplace trying to feel human.  Fear not .. I shall be on the air today.  Those long periods of silence will be when I turn off the microphone to go through a sneezing fit.  While we're at it ... doesn't anyone know of an over-the-counter cold remedy that actually works?

MAYBE A NICE CRUISE IN THE GREEK ISLANDS WOULD BE FUN ....

Well ... it looks like I might want to make some alternative plans for next Memorial Day.  Right now I'm scheduled to stay in Atlanta to deliver a speech to the Libertarian National Convention.   We now have a "Libertarians for a Boortz-Free National Convention" petition online.  The petition reads:

To:  Libertarian National Committee and 2004 Convention Coordinator

We, members and supporters of the Libertarian Party, object to the scheduled appearance of talk radio host Neal Boortz as a speaker at the Libertarian Party's 2004 National Convention.

We further request that said appearance be cancelled.

The reasons for our objection and request are as follows:

1) Mr. Boortz's publicly stated opinions on foreign policy, especially with respect to the US invasion and occupation of Iraq, diverge wildly from the Libertarian Party's positions;

2) Mr. Boortz's publicly stated opinions on the FBI's investigations and surveillance of anti-war demonstrators are flagrantly at odds with the Libertarian Party's positions on privacy, freedom of expression and the proper function of law enforcement in a free society;

3) Because of Mr. Boortz's prominent public profile, it is likely that any appearance by him at the LP's 2004 national convention will have a substantial impact on the public's perception of what the LP stands for;

4) It is not in the best interests of the Libertarian Party to facilitate public misidentification of its positions on foreign policy with Mr. Boortz's divergent views.

This petition will be presented to the Libertarian National Committee at its December 13-14, 2003 meeting in St. Louis, MO, with all signatures gathered to date appended. The petition itself will remain available for signing through May 26, 2004, the day prior to the opening of the Libertarian Party's 2004 national convention.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

You can view the signatures and the comments of those who signed by clicking here.  You will note that some of the signatories seem to think that I'm being paid to address this convention.  Just to set the record straight,  I spoke to the 2000 Libertarian National Convention in Anaheim, California and did not charge a fee.  I spoke to the 2002 national convention in Indianapolis .. and only asked for a hotel room for that evening.  No fee, no travel expenses.

I think I'm beginning to understand why the Libertarian Party has a tough time getting the respect one would like to see.  Keep me posted folks.  I'm loving the attention.  One thing for sure .... If I remain on the speaker's schedule, the speech is going to be one helluva lot different than my two previous efforts.  Then again ... I could be hiking outside of Zermatt.

WHAT DID I SAY THAT MADE THEM SO MAD?

Just trying to stir the puddin' I guess ... but here's a bit I put in Nealz Nuze about two weeks ago about the FBI spying on anti-war demonstrations in the United States.  This is one of the things that have the Boot Boortz crowd so upset.  Knowing, as we do, that communists and Islamic radicals have been behind much of the planning of anti-war demonstrations around the world, why is it so surprising that we would be gathering information on who is running these demonstrations in the US?  Didn't 9/11 teach us anything?

WE MAY BE COMMUNISTS AND ISLAMIC RADICALS .. BUT DON'T INVESTIGATE US!

The FBI is investigating the backgrounds and organizational methods of antiwar demonstrators in the US. Hopefully that doesn't come as a surprise to you.  It is safe to assume that a large number of these demonstrators are out there in the streets because they want America to fail in its efforts to fight terrorism and its efforts to bring secular representative governments to Iraq and Afghanistan.  Translated:  Many of these demonstrators are pro-Saddam and anti-US.  So, who wouldn't want them investigated by the FBI?

The demonstrators, that's who.  Now we have so-called "civil rights advocates" and (God help us) "legal scholars" who are saying that these investigations could signal a return to abuses directed against civil rights protestors of the 1960's 70's.

Remember, as you've already learned, the organizers of the demonstrations last week in London were largely anti-American communists and Islamic radicals.  So we're supposed to assume that all of the protestors in the United States are Boy Scouts and volunteers at nursing homes?

Know your enemy .. and keep him close.

ZERO TOLERANCE IDIOCY

What manner of government idiocy is this?  We have another zero-tolerance story for you, this one out of Louisiana --- the Parkway High School in Bossier Parish.  Amanda Stiles is a sophomore at Parkway High.  Amanda brought an Advil to school .. one pill .. in her purse.  The pill was discovered during a search following a tip from a teacher about a student smoking at the school.  They found no cigarettes or lighters ... but they found the Advil ... and Amanda Stiles has been expelled from the school for one year.  That's right ... for one year.

The Bossier Parish school superintendent, Ken Kruithof, says that the suspension is consistent with the board's zero-tolerance policy.

You do understand why government schools adopt these zero-tolerance policies, don't you?  It helps them avoid actually having to put some conscious thought into a decision.  It's a bureaucrat's dream.  Rather than actually having to consider each school disciplinary problem on its own merits .. just set up a zero-tolerance program and all of your decisions are made for you!

OK ... we're used to government employees not thinking.  Nothing new there.  But do we have to take an entire generation of young people and teach them how not to think also?  Just what is it about a zero-tolerance policy that teaches our children how to apply reason and logic to a fact situation in order to come up with a proper and reasoned solution?

COMPARE NANCY REAGAN TO THE MAYNARD JACKSON CLIQUE

Nancy Reagan has spoken out on the idea of putting her husband, former President Ronald Reagan, on the face of a new dime.  Nancy Reagan wants the dime to stay the way it is.  "When our country chooses to honor a great President such as Franklin Roosevelt by placing his likeness on our currency, it would be wrong to remove him and replace him with another," she said. "It is my hope that the proposed legislation will be withdrawn."

Wouldn't it have been nice to see Valerie Jackson show this much class when the Atlanta city council started this "let's rename the airport after Maynard Jackson" nonsense?  Yeah, right.  In my dreams.

ANTI-AIRPORT WEALTH ENVY

I've learned over the years that anti-airport activists are often operating out of class envy.  These people just think that if you own an airplane that means that you're rich.  William Willkomm III is a candidate for the city council in my second home of Naples, Florida.  He wants Naples airport closed and turned into an industrial park.  Willkomm says that there are other airports nearby and "It will mean they get in their limousines and have one more martini."  Yeah, that's it.  We all ride to the airport while sucking down martinis.  I suppose Willkomm would be surprised to learn that the average privately non-business privately owned airplane in this country is worth less than a new bass rig ... trailer, boat and motor.  Or, maybe not!  Maybe he things that fishermen head to their boats chugging longnecks in a limo too.

A GOOD TIME TO TALK AVIATION

Belinda and I are heading for Dayton!  Next Tuesday, December 16th, I'll join the rest of the News Talk 1290 WHIO crew at the Time Warner Cable Flight Deck at the UD Arena, and the next morning I'll be doing this radio show from  WHIO studios.  The suits around Newstalk 750 WSB, my flagship radio station, really get their boxers in a bunch when I talk aviation on the show.  Well ... next Wednesday they can just suffer in silence.  First, I'll be 400 miles away, and second ... what better day to talk about one of my favorite subjects than on the 100th anniversary of powered flight?

THE SOLUTION

It is obvious that Mayor Shirley Franklin and the Atlanta city council are going to fight any privatization of Hartsfield Airport.  After all, family members have jobs there, as do political supporters. Hartsfield is a power center for Atlanta politicians and too big a plum to turn over to private enterprise, no matter how much the taxpayers of Atlanta benefit.

But ... I have a new idea.  The city has put the environmental agencies on notice that it will not be able to stop raw sewage from flowing into the Chattahoochee River.  This should mean a return visit to a federal courts and some rather hefty fines and penalties.  It could also mean a federally imposed halt to all future commercial and residential development in the city.

Atlanta, of course, would like to see someone come along and bail it out.  That's what about three former mayors, Jackson, Young and Campbell, thought would happen anyway.  Well ... maybe there is a way the State of Georgia could step in and help.

The State of Georgia should make an offer to buy Hartsfield Airport from the city.  Make the offer high enough to cover the cost of the sewer and water improvements that are needed to avoid a fines and a development moratorium, and to insure Atlanta's future growth.  Throw in a bit extra to bring some property tax relief to Atlanta citizens.  Then, let the city officials turn the offer down and explain to the taxpayers why they did.

OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD ...

For those of you who think that Islamic Terrorism is the greatest threat to our country ... you're wrong.  The greatest threat to the continuation of freedom and economic liberty in the United States right now is Hillary Clinton.

Liberals hate competition.  The competitive spirit leads to individual accomplishments and excellence.  Competition is, at its core, an individualistic enterprise.  The hatred of competition goes hand-in-hand with the left's war on individuality.

One of my favorite quotes of all time, from Joseph Sobran:  "Politicians never accuse you of 'greed' for wanting other people's money --- only for wanting to keep your own money."

READING ASSIGNMENTS

President Bush has is proposing even more tax benefits for people who save money.  You can guess what the left thinks about this.  Yeah .. it only helps the evil rich.

Is the Bush Administration getting ready to put the big push on reform of the hideous Social Security system?  That could help smooth things over with some fiscal conservatives out there.

It's starting to look like the scientists in Russia have figured it out ... the false science of global warming, that is.  Maybe the Kyoto accord is at long last dead.  By the way ... if you pay attention you will note that the anti-capitalist environmental zealots have, in large part, stopped talking about global warming.  Now it's "global climate change."

Looks like John Kerry has a potty mouth.  What you see here is just an indication of the level of hatred that these Democrats have for Bush.  It's also shows the level of frustration reached by Kerry.  When he began this oddesy he thought the Democratic nomination was all but his.

George Will says that Howard Dean is not exactly what you would call a "thinker."

The economy gets to vote early ... and it is voting for Bush.

Well here's some criticism of Bush's policies in Iraq, and this time its from a source you wouldn't expect; Newt Gingrich.

Poor Hitlary.  It seems that she found a bit of trouble locating troops that wanted to dine with her during her Thanksgiving trip to Iraq.  At least our troops have the good sense to know when someone detests everything they fight for.

Click here to see why some people consider Dennis Kucinich to be lower than snake squeeze.

It's called the Eskimo Nebula ... and it's about 3000 light years away.  Amazing picture.

OK ... you just gotta love this headline.  How many more can you think of?

I've been telling you about the shrill venomous hatred that you can find on Democraticunderground.com.  Thomas Lindaman has found another site for us to keep an eye on!  It's the "Podium."
