OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD ...

Feeling much better ... thanks ... but not yet great enough to spend my customary three hours working on program notes.  OK ... so I slept in.  Sue me.

A man who should know .. a former Iraqi air defense commander .. is now saying that Saddam Hussein did, in fact, have chemical and biological weapons deployed to front line commanders before the American invasion.  Lt. Col. Al Daba (sp?) says that the only reason the Iraqi forces didn't use the weapons was because they feared the consequences.  This is just another in a long sequence of stories which support the president's contention that Saddam had these weapons ... and, like the others, it will be ignored.

Do you have any children around 10 years old or so?  Why don't you tell them tonight that the federal government just saddled them with another $3 trillion in debt .. a $3 trillion unfunded liability for prescription drugs for seniors.  Tell your children that this is being added to the $25 trillion in unfunded liability they're already shouldering for Social Security and Medicare.  Now ... isn't it a good thing that your kids don't have a clue what this means?

So Al Gore is going to endorse Howard Dean!  And just how did his former running mate, Joe Lieberman, find out?  Through the media.  "Here, Joe.  How does the back of my hand feel?

Look ... really ... it's OK if you say Merry Christmas to me.  Happy Holidays is OK ... but I promise not to be offended if you actually say Merry Christmas.  You don't think I'm in your stores buying Ramadan gifts, do you?

That cold I had yesterday?  Much better, thank you.  I just ate half a package of Ex-Lax and everything was fine.  There is no power on earth that could have convinced me to either sneeze or cough after that.

Newt Gingrich is saying that the prescription benefit bill the president signed yesterday is a good thing.  I have so much respect for Gingrich's intelligence that I'm thinking maybe I should take a second look.  On the other hand, the Washington Times is reporting today that this drug benefit will cost about $2 trillion in its second decade.  Stay tuned.

It was on this day in 1981 that Mumia Abu-Jamal killed Philly police officer Daniel Faulkner.  Today Abu-Jamal is a celebrity icon for the left ... and few can remember the name of the policeman he killed.

Seventy-nine percent of seniors say that the new prescription drug benefit will either hurt them or will have little or no effect on them.  Four hundred billion dollars ... and they're not impressed.  What in the hell do they want, signature authority on our checking accounts?

Reports out now that Ritalin turns children into weak-willed adults, unable to deal with challenges.

READING ASSIGNMENT

Last month a draft of a new Afghanistan constitution was released.  If you read this column by Bruce Fein you may well wonder just what we've accomplished for the Afghan people.  OK, we routed the Taliban ... but is this constitution any better?

Parents!  Here's the latest drug craze for your teenager.  Coricidin cold pills.  Evidently the rug rats have found that popping four or five of these pills will give you a bit of a high.

Christmas has been stolen.  Secularist Grinches are the primary suspects.

Howard Dean ... the more he talks the less impressive he becomes.

I really should feature the CyberAlert from the Media Research Center more often.  I'll try to do better.  At any rate, here's Monday's edition ... read it and cringe.

My least-favorite retailer?  That would be Abercombie & Fitch, the outfit that markets group sex to 13-year-olds.  Did you know that their catalog is no longer available at their stores?  Wonder why?  I guess boycotts, or the threat of boycotts work!

Rich Lowry says that the growing American economy is destroying jobs.  Rich Lowry says that this is a good thing.  Rich Lowry is right.

I frequently get inquiries as to why I don't spend more time railing against the Patriot Act.  Read this essay from from two University of Chicago law professors.  Is the Patriot Act really the monster that some say it is?  You may be a bit surprised.

Are you wondering what The Hildabeast has been up to lately?  Wesley Pruden will let you know.
