I'M ENTITLED

No .. not asking anything from government. I'm just being a bit lazy today ... abbreviated program notes. Looks like I'm going to be flying by the seat of my pants.

TRIAL LAWYERS SHOW THEIR STRENGTH

In New Jersey we have a doctor training Jersey toll booth operators how to deliver a baby. Some of you may wonder why. It's because more and more live births are now happening while the mother is trying to get to a hospital, and more of these mothers are having to hit the road to cross state lines to find an obstetrician. Why? Malpractice insurance premiums.

The House passed a bill this year to limit medical damages. The vote was close, 229 to 196. That bill is now before the Senate and Democrats are blocking it. Democrats, as you know, are the exclusive beneficiaries of huge donations from trial lawyers. Now these trial lawyers have managed to corral the votes they need to kill this medical liability reform.

If you think that trial lawyers are too powerful in Washington, just remember where that power rests ... on the Democratic side of the aisle.

COVER-UP IN THE WORKS?

I'm highlighting this column by Michelle Malkin. I'm not going to try to recreate the column here, just a brief roadmap.
  • Private developer develops software that can help prosecutors keep tract of case files.

  • Prosecutors like the software. It can help them track witnesses and locate defendants.

  • The U.S. Justice Department buys the software for nationwide implemenation.

  • The developer creates some enhancements to the software.

  • The Justice Department steals the enhancements.

  • Convicted FBI spy Robert Hanson reportedly sells the software to Russian crime figures.

  • The software comes into the possession of Saddam Hussein while George 41 is in office.

  • Bush terrorism official Paul Redmond resigns his post.

  • British newspapers suggest that Redmond's resignation had something to do with the investigation into the possibility that Hussein has been using the software to tap into American intelligence activities.

  • The Justice officials who oversaw the theft of the software from the developer are still in their jobs.

  • The Bush 9-11 Commission is refusing to investigate this situation.

Read the column for more ... but it does sound like there may be a cover-up in the works, doesn't it?

I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS AN ISSUE

Have we all lost our minds? Are we really upset by this? Chicago Cubs manager Dusty Baker says that blacks and Hispanics are better suited to dealing with high temperatures. Excuse me, but isn't this an accepted truth among anthropologists? Isn't it true that nature herself has seen to it that humans who live in hotter climates have darker skin? If Baker's statements are true, why in the world are so many people getting their boxers in a bunch over this? Leave him alone. There was no ill intent, and what he said was quite probably true.

The real issue here is what would have happened if a white person had made those comments. I don't have to fill in that blank, do I?

HERE'S SOME GOOD NEWS

A just-released survey shows that the United States leads the world in the private ownership of guns. We are now near the point where there is almost one gun for every American.

Good.

America is also one of the freest nations in the world. Coincidence? Now we just have to work on removing those laws that prevent law-abiding citizens from carrying those guns for their own protection.

AND JUST HOW LONG SHOULD THIS IDIOT STAY IN JAIL

Some moron threw a cherry bomb from the upper deck at the Oakland Coliseum yesterday. A young boy on the lower level was hurt when it exploded. He'll be OK, just some minor burns.

Now ... two things:
  1. They have the idiot who threw the cherry bomb. He should spend no less than one solid year in jail. Not this community service nonsense; send him to jail, to prison. Show the nation some video of him crying as he's led into the prison to serve his time. And no soap-on-a-rope.

  2. Expect some frantic fanatics to step forward now and insist that we need to start searching and screening all people who go into sports stadiums. Maybe we need to establish the SESA, the Sport Event Security Agency. These people would have to be federal employees, of course, because otherwise they wouldn't be "professional." Oh .. and they would have to be unioninzed.

I just wanted to make sure I said it first.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

The top of the reading list today. Bob Herbert, a New York Times columnist, says its time for some civil rights leaders to address the problem of black self-destruction. Good thing Herbert is black. If a white columnist were to say this it would, of course, be racism.

A dissertation by a George Mason University graduate student has really caught the attention of some Washington security experts. Interesting read. If a college student can do this, tell me why some Islamofanatics can't

I didn't catch this last month .. but can you believe our Supreme Court citied foreign law as a justification for overturning that sodomy law in Texas? Foreign law? Aren't these Justices supposed to be focusing on our Constitution and our laws?

If that great, necessary, wonderful, praiseworthy Medicare drug benefit is all that wonderful, why, then, did the House approve legislation that would insure that federal retirees don't have to use it?

Do you think our war on drugs in the United States is a good thing? Can you read this article with an open mind?

Now that Hillary is starting to soften her insistence that she absolutely, positively won't be a candidate for president in 2004, pundits are starting to suggest various courses of action for the Republicans.

The teachers unions says that teachers are underpaid. Wow, imagine my surprise. The Hoover Institution says that teachers earn more per hour than architects, engineers, scientists and nurses. Food fight!

I told you about that radio talk show host who picked up an Internet rumor and put it on the air. Here's the story.
