"I'll try to be nicer, If you try to be smarter"

WHY SHOULD YOU CARE ONE WAY OR THE OTHER?

George Bush wants the people to urge their representatives in congress so support his tax cut plans. Nice idea, but why would it work? After all, most of the people in this country pay little or no federal income taxes at all. We're talking over 60% of all income earners here. Why would these people care one way or another if the other 40% get to keep more of the money they're working for?

This, of course, has been the Democrats plan all along. They remember how Ronald Reagan successfully took his case to the American people - and got his tax cut. Democrats can only use your money to buy votes if they're the ones spending it, so they started working to prevent a repeat of Reagan's success. The goal was simple; remove the majority of the voters in this country from any federal tax liability. When the majority of people don't pay taxes the majority of people won't give a rats posterior about tax cuts. No more of this "going to the people" nonsense.

So ... you're now one of the protected class, protected from any liability for federal taxes. Why should you care one way or the other?

Where do you work? How do you earn your living? How has business been lately? Sales down? Are you concerned that there may be layoffs coming at your employer? So, what would it take to put a big smile on your boss's face? What would it take to save your job? It might help if someone bought a little more of whatever it is that your company makes, and that brings us to another question. Does your company sell most of its goods or services to government or to the private sector? For most of you, the answer will be the private sector. So, it follows that your company is better off when people in the private sector have money to spend, more money, than it is when the government seizes that money and spends it. It comes down to this question. Which would help your business more? (a) People keeping more of what they earn and spending some of that money on items or services related to your business; or, (b) the government seizing their money and using it for various government programs? If the answer is (a) then you should contact your elected officials and get on board with the tax cut, whether or not you actually pay taxes.

Another reason: So you're in the middle and lower income brackets and you don't pay federal income taxes. Is this the dream you have for yourself and your family? Do you want to spend the rest of your days wallowing in the middle and lower income brackets? If you're like most hard-working Americans you have dreams of second homes, nice vacations, big screen TVs, great colleges for your kids and comfortable retirements. You're going to do what it takes to get into those upper income brackets. When you get there, do you want to keep that money you've worked so hard for? Or do you want to fork about half of it over to government? If you're planning for your future, if your plan is to move into the higher income brackets, then you need to start working NOW to keep as much of that money as you can. Call your congressman.

Need more reasons? Fine, let me ask you this question. How do your view yourself? Are you an independent and individual American who enjoys freedom and economic liberty? Do you believe our government is getting just a wee bit too large? Try this. Tell me one activity you will engage in today that will be free of some type of federal regulation. Our founding fathers felt that, in times of peace, about 95% of governing should occur at the local lever, with 5% coming from the federal level. The reality of governance today would be a severe disappointment to the men and women who gave so much to protect our freedoms and establish our republican form of government. They felt that you should be as close to your elected officials as possible, the better to keep an eye on what they're up to. Well, that's not the way things are today. Almost all governmental decisions are made by bureaucrats in Washington. Your local city councilman can't pave a sidewalk without federal involvement. In order to bring your government back to your community you have to starve the beast. This means cutting funding to that beltway monstrosity that controls you from afar. Government is like fire. A great friend when controlled, a fearsome enemy when out of control. To fight a fire you remove its fuel. The fuel feeding the raging spreading fire of our federal government is money. Take some of that fuel away. Call your U.S. Senator.

Politicians would like you to think that tax cuts only serve the needs of the evil, greedy rich. Tell them you know better.

SHOW US ONE. JUST ONE!

We turn out attention now to Joseph Lieberman at the Saturday night Democratic candidate debate. Quoting Lieberman:

My question is to Ambassador [Moseley] Braun. ... I had the honor of being the vice presidential candidate in 2000. When people ask me how was that experience, I say I loved every minute of it--until the end. That wasn't so good. That was profoundly unfair. An election decided by five judges of the Supreme Court. But what we found was that African-Americans, senior Americans, new Americans were deprived of their right to vote. African-Americans 10 times greater than other Americans in Florida. Ambassador Braun, what can we do to make sure that in 2004 every vote is counted?

So, there you go. It's the old "the Supreme Court stole the election" and "black folks were kept away from the polls" bit.

OK ... let's go over a few things AGAIN. Every time we cover this maybe it sinks into a few more minds. You can only hope.

First, Lieberman's statement that the election was decided by five judges of the Supreme Court. This a lie. What's worse, it's a lie that digs away at the very foundations of rule of law and the principles of our Constitution. The election was decided by the voters (well, really the electoral college) NOT the Supreme Court.

Listen to this. Try to remember this. Sooner or later you'll run into one of these "Bush was chosen by the Supreme Court" fools and you'll be able to launch a probably futile attempt to educate them.

The Supreme Court of the United States told the State of Florida that if it wanted to recount the votes in the 2000 election that would be just fine. But .. if those votes were going to be recounted then ALL of the votes would be recounted, not just those votes in heavily Democrat areas, and the same standard would be applied to the recount through out the state. Simply put, if the State of Florida would recount all of the votes using the same standards as to which votes counted and which did not, fine. If the State wanted to just count the votes where Democrats had a chance of picking up some numbers, and if the State wanted to apply different standards to different voting areas, not fine. The Florida Supreme Court then decided to stop the recount (damn that pesky equal protection clause) and the Florida results were certified.

Now ... aboutthis "African-Americans, senior Americans, new Americans were deprived of their right to vote. African-Americans 10 times greater than other Americans in Florida"nonsense. Show us the proof! Look, the U.S. Civil Rights commission held hearings in Florida to investigate this baloney about blacks being kept away from the polls in Florida. All of the race warlords showed up to complain about the evil tactics of Republicans during the election ... but not one of these race warlords could come up with one single solitary living breathing duly registered black voter in the entire State of Florida, from Pensacola to Key West, not one single black voter who could say that he or she was kept from the polls and denied their right to cast their vote. NOT ONE! To this very day neither Florida nor national Democrats have been able to produce one single black Floridian who was denied their opportunity to cast a legal vote during in the 2000 election. So, Senator Lieberman, can we give this race-baiting nonsense a rest?

Oh, and by the way, Senator Lieberman. This might be a good time to remind you that while the recount fiasco was proceeding in Florida it was you and your running mate, Al Gore, who shipped a few busloads of attorneys to the State of Florida. They were assigned to election offices in almost all Florida counties with goal. That goal was to look at absentee ballots from American men and women in uniform serving in our armed forces overseas ... and to do everything in their power to see to it that those votes of our servicemen didn't count.

I just thought I would remind you about that.

SAY IT OVER AND OVER

It can't be said too much. Democrats are desperate, and they're growing more desperate with each passing week. They're trying to block Bush's reelection by sabotaging any economic recovery while protecting their flank by blocking any meaningful conservative appointments to federal courts.

RITALIN .. THE ONION GETS IT!

This news article showed up in a recent edition of The Onion Online!

Ritalin Cures Next Picasso

WORCESTER, MA-Area 7-year-old Douglas Castellano's unbridled energy and creativity are no longer a problem thanks to Ritalin, doctors for the child announced Friday. "After years of failed attempts to stop Douglas' uncontrollable bouts of self-expression, we have finally found success with Ritalin," Dr. Irwin Schraeger said. "For the first time in his life, Douglas can actually sit down and not think about lots of things at once." Castellano's parents reported that the cured child no longer tries to draw on everything in sight, calming down enough to show an interest in television.

JESSE JACKSON AND NASCAR

May, you have to give Jesse credit. He's managed to work his grand extortion scheme on NASCAR! Just amazing. First we get Jesse making some noises about the lack of blacks in NASCAR garages, pit crews and behind the wheels. Suddenly a few hundred thousand dollars pass into the Rainbow/Push Coalition bank accounts. Then ... Jesse disappears! Funny how that works.

A listener who knows some high-level NASCAR types told me that there were several problems that just could not be overcome in an effort to get more black NASCAR drivers. First there were concerns about drivers on the high-speed ovals doing the "gangster lean" in those stock cars. Not safe. They were also concerned about the safety aspect of 22" chrome rims at 198 miles per hour. And lord only knows what would happen the first time a minority driver was "black flagged."

I guess it was just better to pay the tab and move on. Rodney King would have made one helluva NASCAR driver though.

WAY TO GO CANADA!

The Prime Minister of Canada gets one right. They're going to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana. The Bush Administration is beside itself. Don't you just love it?

Ahhhh France. The more we learn about that country, the more we love them. Now we're learning that France was supplying Iraqi officials who had fled to Syria with passports that allowed them to run to Europe.

Something else the Bush-haters won't admit. The war in Iraq scored some pretty big points in the war on terror. Someone needs to tell this to Bob Graham.

In one of the most idiotic proposals thus far in the presidential election, Congessman Dennis Kucinich says we need to get "the profit out of health care." That brings Thomas Sowell into the fray.
