JUDGES HATE THIS

If you want a sure-fire way to avoid jury service in Georgia, all you have to do is let the judge know that you believe that, as a juror, you have the right to decide the law as well as the facts of the case. The judge will tell you it ain't so. Then you waive a copy of the Georgia Constitution in the judge's face saying that it IS so.

No - I'm not encourage you to attempt to avoid jury duty. I think that jury duty is a solemn obligation of every law-abiding American citizen. Our system of justice depends on decent Americans giving up some of their time to sit in judgment of a fellow citizen whom the government wishes to deprive of life, liberty or property.

I bring all of this up as a prelude to a quotation I found over the weekend. Use this on the next judge that tries to tell you that, as a juror, you only get to decide questions of fact.

It would be an absurdity for jurors to be required to accept the judge's view of the law, against their own opinion, judgment, and conscience.-- John Adams

SADDAM - OUT THERE WITH A BILLION IN CASH?

Just a nice warm and fuzzy little thought for you on this Monday morning. We've learned over the past two weeks that Saddam Hussein and his sons backed up some trucks to an Iraqi bank just days before the war began, and they made off with approximately one billion dollars in hard U.S. currency.

Now, if Saddam and his two thuggish sons are still alive, it would be safe to assume that they're more than a little upset with the United States. Just imagine for a moment what type of havoc they can create -- what kind of death and destruction - with one billion dollars and a few nasty weapons. This war against Islamic terrorism is far from over.

PATTY MURRAY ON DECK!

The Democrats are still trying to make an issue out of Bush's visit to the USS Abraham Lincoln. One Democrat even sought a pledge from President Bush not to use any pictures of him in that flight suit on that aircraft carrier in any campaign advertisements.

Meanwhile - you don't read, see or hear ANYWHERE bout the Democrats who made a visit to that aircraft carrier as it neared its home port in Washington state. We had the Demcoratic governor of Washington, a congressman or two, and the two Demcoratic U.S. Senators. One of those Senators is none other than Patty Murray. Murray, you will remember, voted against the use of military force to dislodge Saddam Hussein. She's also the wonderful Democrat who lectured a group of schoolchildren about the humanitarianism of Osama Bin Laden.

The rule, I guess, is that only Republican politicians shouldn'tvisit Navy vessels at sea. I'll try to remember that in the future.

A TRUE GROUP OF AMERICAN HEROS

Have you ever heard of "Flying the Hump?" Here's an explanation I picked off the Internet:

In the Spring of 1942, the military forces of Imperial Japan succeeded in severing the Burma Road, China's last supply link to the Allied world. The situation was desperate, unless the Allies could continue to supply the Chinese with essential military provisions, it would just be a matter of time before China's conventional military forces were overwhelmed by the invading Japanese. The only alternative was to airlift supplies directly to China from Allied supply depots in eastern India. However, to do so meant that American and Chinese airmen would have to fly heavily loaded transport planes over the world's tallest and most unforgiving mountain range - the mighty Himalayas. Flying over the "Hump", airmen of the American Army Air Force and the China National Aviation Corporation would for the next three and a half years, maintain a constant supply of materials and hope to the beleaguered people of China.

Saturday night I was at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Dayton Ohio for a speech to Ohio Libertarians. There was another group meeting at that hotel on Saturday night, a group of pilots who "flew the hump" in World War II. I crashed their banquet and chatted with some of them for a few moments. It was great to be in the presence of some true American heroes.

GENE SIMMONS SOUNDS OFF ON DITZY TWIT NATALIE MAINES

This from Insight Magazine; a quote from Gene Simmons of Kiss:

"In time of war, to aid and give comfort to the enemy on foreign soil, on stage and in a public forum is perfect fodder for anybody's press overseas that has a slightly different agenda, and I think it's reprehensible," Simmons says. "And just because you're cute and have D-cups doesn't mean it's any less reprehensible."

Danny Glover calls George Bush a racist. Then Danny Glover sings the praises of Fidel Castro. Then some people criticize Danny Glover. Then the people who criticize Danny Glover are called "racists." And that's the way things go in America, I guess.
