WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2003HOT OR NOT? Vote on Neal's shirt! THANK YOU UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA The scarcity of notes in the Nuze this morning is a result of an evening spent with students and faculty at the University of Georgia in Athens. I haven't made all that many speeches on college campuses. My normal venue is conventions and such, so I was just a bit anxious. There are, after all, those stories about speakers who don't toe the liberal line being shouted down on college campuses across the nation. When I went on stage I was gratified to see them bringing additional chairs into the auditorium. It was a standing only crowd, and not one sign of protest. Oh, there was that one female who accosted me after the speech because I had said something she thought was demeaning to women. Well, I guess in any room of 600 or so people you're going to find at least one who hasn't discovered a sense of humor yet. At any rate ... a great evening and I want to thank everybody in attendance for their hospitality. It was a great evening and a beautiful moonlit flight back to Atlanta. Now we'll see if I get the same reception at the University of Missouri in about ten days.
Here's a picture of me grabbing a bite with some UGA libertarians before the speech. No, that's not Kenny Rogers at the end of the table. IN IRAQ Iraqi terrorists attacked the UN in Iraq, and the UN ran. Then they attacked the Red Cross, and the Red Cross ran. Today they attacked a contingent of Italian military policemen in Nasariah. As many as 20 might be dead. So, now might be a good idea not to steel ourselves for an Italian withdrawal from Iraq. Also today we learn of a CIA report which says that the security situation in Iraq is going to get a lot worse before it gets any better, this is because more Iraqis are deciding to join the terrorists in their attacks on Americans. Yes, things are rough .. and it's easy to be pessimistic about the eventual outcome. These terrorists know full well that they cannot defeat the American and British forces in Iraq. They know that if the American forces stay long enough to train and equip an Iraqi defense force, and long enough to assist Iraqis in forming a popularly elected government based on freedom and economic liberty, they, the terrorists, are doomed. The ONLY way the terrorists can win, the ONLY way they can clear the way for Saddam's return to power in Iraq and the inevitable bloodbath that would follow, the ONLY way is for them to influence public opinion in America to the point that political survival depends on withdrawing. The price we would pay for that action in the future would be incalculable. Terrorists would sense America's weakness ... and anyone who has ever dealt with a bully knows full well what happens when a bully is encouraged by weakness. It's a time for the American people to be strong. Maybe it would help if they would start running those videos of those airplanes crashing into the World Trade Towers again. INTEMPERATE THOUGHTS That stupid couple still hasn't decided whether or not they want to visit Paris or the Caribbean. Could we just tie them up and send them somewhere? The Democratic Attorney General of California wants a special investigation of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He wants to know who Arnold groped, when Arnold groped them, and what Arnold groped. Carol Costello is engaged. How many men are on suicide watch across America? I'm starting to cave. I really want to interview Zell Miller on the show, but I'm still a bit torqued over his declining to be on my show for two years ... until, that is, he had a book to flack. What to do, what to do. READING ASSIGNMENTS This could well be the most stunningly stupid idea ever put forth by a serious presidential candidate. Richard Gephardt wants an international minimum wage.. The minimum wage has one purpose -- to eliminate competition from workers who are willing to do the same job for less. Remember the high school freshman who was expelled for the rest of the school year because of a fictional account of a killing she wrote in a private journal? Well, the school officials have felt the heat, and the expulsion has been overturned. Things are looking rather rough for the Kerry campaign. Two campaign staffers have walked after he changed campaign managers. Not good. Oh, and by the way, you should know that John Kerry served in Vietnam. The New York City Schools seem to have adopted the position that the birth of Jesus is not an actual historical event. In other words, it never happened. Michelle Malkin .. a female of the brilliant, even genius persuasion .. writes about Jessica Simpson, a female who thinks that there's real buffalo meat in Buffalo wings. Here's the third installment in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's series on the problems with the HOPE scholarships. Is it possible that someone may suggest that teachers actually make students earn their B average instead of just giving it to them? Pay attention to these stories, my friends, because many states are considering emulating what we created here in Georgia. Who would hand over $200 million to National Public Radio, a taxpayer funded radio network operated for and by liberals? Why, a liberal, of course! The same type of leftist who would donate one million to the Democratic National Committee. Kathleen Parker writes about the gun-totin' cops in that South Carolina high school Uh oh. Not good news for the left. It's not a jobless recovery after all. |
