WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2003GRAND SLAM ... HOLE IN ONE ... HAT TRICK ... PERFECT GAME ... HAIL MARY PASS FOR A TOUCHDOWN What an unbelievable story. George Bush sneaks out of his ranch at Crawford, Texas to make a surprise visit to our troops in Baghdad. I watched that moment when Bush walked out from behind that camouflage curtain a dozen times last night and again this morning ... and never got tired of the reaction of our troops when they saw their Commander in Chief walk out. It didn't take long yesterday that this was going to mean a tremendous boost to Bush's popularity. And you just knew that Democrats and their leftist fellow travelers in the media were going to have to find a way to fault Bush and criticize him for the trip. Here are just a few examples: Philip Taubman is the Washington Bureau Chief for the New York Times. Taubman says that there should have been a way to take more reporters. Then, apparently with a straight face, Taubman says that people are perfectly capable of maintaining a confidence for security reasons. He calls the trip a "bad precedent" with many questionable aspects. Yeah, right. Surrrrre ... these reporters wouldn't have told anyone, would they. I guarantee you that some reporter would have managed to leak news about the trip knowing that such a leak would have turned Air Force One around. Then we have Tom Rosenstiel. He's the director for something called the Project for Excellence in Journalism. If he's not a Democratic lefty I'm a rap artist. Rosenstiel is upset because the reporters who made the trip didn't spill the beans! Can you believe that one? Rosenstiel says that these reporters are in the business of telling the truth and they can't decide it's ok to lie (about where they're going) because it serves a larger truth or good cause. Let's get Philip Taubman and Tom Rosentiel together to has this one out. CNN is going to do some griping too. Just two days before the trip the White House dismissed a two-person crew from her network from the pool of reporters covering the president. They were told that nothing was going to happen for a few days. And do you know who did provide the pool coverage from televisi8on? Jim Angle of Fox News Channel, that's who. So CNN's line is that the White House put together its own group of people to accompany him on the trip. Fox over CNN? Imagine that. And what about Democrats? Well ... I imagine a lot of them will be chiming in with their comments and thoughts today. Did they just get their speaking points from former Clinton press spokesman Joe Lockhart yesterday: Lockhart said "This is a president who has been unwilling to provide his presence to the families who have suffered but thinks nothing of flying to Baghdad to use the troops there as a prop." So, there you go. The Democrat line is that Bush was using the troops as a prop for his reelection campaign. My guess is that somewhere today you'll hear Democrats saying that Bush put these troops in extreme danger by gathering them together for his speech. If word had leaked out to Hussein's agents they would almost certainly have attacked that tent where the troops were gathered in hopes of getting the big prize. I'll also guess that before too many days pass by you'll hear some Democrat say that Bush should pledge not to use any video of this Thanksgiving event in his reelection campaign. And how about our friends at Democraticunderground.com? This is the website where loyal Democrats go to trade thoughts and ideas with each other. Click here to read a thread of comments on Bush's visit. Do it fast, though. democraticunderground.com has a habit of pulling particularly revealing conversation threads when words gets out to normal, rational Americans. Just in case they do pull the thread, here are a few of the things that are being said: Warning: These Democrats tend to use some pretty foul language when they're angry and scared.
I fear that this one gesture will be the tipping point past which
* re-connects with wavering white males and so-called independents. The media is
ga-ga over this farce of a visit. The messages from the whore centers will get
much more syrupy and orgasmic as the weekend approaches cultminating in a
literal ejactulation of praise and wonder on the sunday talk shows. Even
Democratic senators will be stepping all over themselves to praise *'s holy
visit as an act of courage and daring-do. It won't be pretty and it won't be
easy to take. Again, I fear that this stunt will be the tipping point reversing many of those stats. This feels big to me. This feels like it's the beginning of the end for us. Does he really think that anyone with a few active brain cells will see this as anything but an attempt to avoid, at all costs, the fate of the soldiers he has NO problem sacrificing the lives of daily. After all - this AWOL, unelected, moron's safety is sooooo much more important than theirs ? If I had a kid, husband or other family member over there I would be even more furious. Sneaky son of a bitch. When ever you need to know how the press is reacting to events such as this check in with Howard Kurtz of the Post. Here's your link to his coverage of this event. AND WHAT DO AMERICANS THINK? Here's just a sampling of the email I've received since the news of Bush's visit came out:
