DAVIS' DOOM DAY?

The recall circus ends in California today.  The voters will decide whether or not Gray Davis stays, and who replaces him if he goes.  One of three people will be the governor "elect" after today; Gray Davis, Cruz Bustamante or Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Oddly, the Democrat's "tricky Thursday" surprise seems to have backfired.  The LA Times printed accusations about Arnold's groping habits at the last minute expecting this information to be enough to sway voters to keep Davis in office.  But things didn't go as expected.  First, a lot of California voters recognized the last-minute story for what it was, and seemed to rally around Arnold. Second, the LA Times story hit at around the same time the New York Times was apologizing for an earlier story citing Arnold's admiration of Adolf Hitler, a story which turned out to be erroneous.  Third, it was soon revealed that the LA Times had refused to run earlier stories about the abusive nature of Gray Davis toward his state employees.

You have heard the stories about Gray Davis, haven't you? You've heard about his screaming the "F" bomb into the face of his secretary, and then grabbing her and shaking her "until (her) teeth rattled."  That's an assault, folks.  But you never saw the story in the LA Times.  Times editors reportedly decided not to run the story because Davis was a major politician, and the stories were not confirmed.  Come on, we know the truth here.  The LA Times is a leftist newspaper, and an extremely boring one at that.  They weren't going to damage a leftist Democratic governor unless the story became too big to ignore.

Oh .. by the way.  The Los Angeles Times is truly boring.  Go to your library and grab one ... then sit back to read it.  Someone will wake you up when the library closes.

SOME INTERESTING STATE TAX AND SPEND STATISTICS

Liberals are fond of blaming the Bush tax cuts for the individual states' financial woes.   They say that if Bush wasn't so determined to put more money into the pockets of the wretched rich there would be plenty of money to help bail the states out of their financial woes.  After all, they say, it's Bush's recession that's causing all of these problems, right?

Here are some basic facts compiled by Kevin Hassett of the American Enterprise Institute about state spending, taxing and budgets.

Hassett divided the 50 states into those which went for Bush, and those which went to Gore.  The populations are about equal.  The states that went for Gore account for 70% of today's state budget deficits.  The 10 states with the largest per capita budget deficits are all Democratic states.  This would be your strong indication that Republican economic policies .. including tax cuts .. aren't to blame for state budget deficits.  The problem is SPENDING!

Here's more:  In the 10 states with the largest deficits tax revenues increased at the rate of about 5% per year over the past 10 years.  In the 10 most fiscally sound states tax revenues increased by 1.5% per year.  Do you see what's happening here?  The states with the smallest increases in tax revenues are the states with the healthiest state budgets.  Once again ... the finger points to spending, not taxes.

Wait ... before we leave this topic ... let's point some figures at .....

BUSH THE BIG SPENDER.

The Hassett study also provides us some interesting figures about George Bush and federal government spending.  You are about to read a statistic that should open your eyes just a bit.

Three out of the five largest increases in total federal spending over the entire history of our country have occurred during the first three years of the presidency of George W. Bush.  The other two years were during World War II.  Yes, George Bush has had to increase defense spending, but so did Ronald Reagan.  The difference?  Reagan cut nondefense spending, Bush hasn't.  The budget for the useless Department of Education is 60% higher than it was three years ago.

Is this what you voted for in 2000?

WHERE'S WALDO

It's Neal Boortz, your idea man, with another sure-fire way you can make some big bucks out there.  I'm an Aries, you see.  Long on ideas, short on implementation.  You can do this and then send me a periodic royalty check.

You've heard of the "Where's Waldo" game, haven't you?  Waldo is a strange looking cartoon character in a weird hat who seems to get lost in crowds a lot.  The object of the game is to find Waldo hiding in the teeming masses in various pictures.

OK ... now it's time for "Where's Jesse."  Instead of using drawings or pictures, this game will involve videotapes.  When the party gets dull you'll stick your "Where's Jesse" video in the machine and hit play.  Your guests will see videos of various news events from around the country.  The object is to see who will be the first to identify Jesse Jackson's mug somewhere in the background of these news events.

Imagine the electricity in the air as your guests suddenly spot Jesse mugging in the background while Martha Burk engages in her latest bit of hysteria over Augusta National Golf Club.  Congratulate your first guest to see Jesse standing behind Gray Davis at an anti-recall rally!  See who's first at your party to spot Jesse mailing his love-child support check!

It's interactive fun for the whole family!  Now, get out there and make some money, and don't forget my take.

ELECTRICITY IN IRAQ

Betcha you didn't know this.  American and allied forces in Iraq have managed to repair the electric distribution grid in Iraq to the extent that Iraqi citizens now have more available electricity than they did before the war began.  Now if this comes as a bit of a surprise to you, perhaps you should ask why.  Why haven't you read this in your local paper?  Why haven't you seen Peter Jennings, or Dan Rather or Tom Brokaw report this?  Why, in fact, did you have to be watching Brit Hume on the Fox News Channel last night to learn this interesting bit of positive information.  Simple answer.  You haven't seen this reported elsewhere because this information doesn't serve the media mandate ... get George Bush out of the White House in 2004.

YOU DID HEAR ABOUT THIS GUN CONTROL STUDY ... DIDN'T YOU?

A lot of us have been wondering why the Centers for Disease Control spent so much time studying gun ownership in America.  It was a CDC doctor who came up with the amazing finding that you are three times more likely to find a gun in a home where someone has been shot.  That's like saying that you're three times more likely to find a radio in a home where people listen to Boortz.

Well ... the CDC is now finally out of the gun -study business.  A CDC task force made up of 14 academic, business and government health experts has completed a study of 51 different gun-control studies.  The purpose of the exercise was to find out once and for all whether or not any of these gun control laws work.  They studied bans on specific firearms, right to carry laws, registration laws, waiting periods ... the whole gamut.

OK ... here are the results.  I have to bring them to you here because the chances are good you aren't going to hear them anywhere else.  You see, the results aren't pleasing to the left, which means they aren't pleasing to the mainstream media. The CDC task force has found that there is "insufficient evidence to determine the effectiveness of any of the firearms laws."  There is no proof that any of these laws have done anything to reduce crime of violence committed with guns.

By the way ... there was a story in The Washington Post yesterday about Teddy Kennedy's son, Congressman Patrick Kennedy, slamming Howard Dean for Dean's relationship with the NRA.  The Post mentioned that Patrick Kennedy's two uncles, John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy, were both "assassinated by guns."  Odd ... and all this time I thought that Lee Harvey Oswald and Sirhan Sirhan were the assassins.  Now we're learning that the guns did it.

IMMINENT THREAT

I was watching Hannity & Colmes last night when I heard D.C. Congressional Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton ranting about George Bush.  Norton said that Bush got us into the war on a false pretense ... the pretense of an "imminent threat" to our security.  This "imminent threat" nonsense had been a common thread among leftist Democrats.

The trouble here is that Bush never cited an "imminent threat" to our security as an excuse for going to war in Iraq.  He was very precise in his choice of words in his State of the Union Speech.  He said that we had to act now because when the threat did become imminent there might not be enough time to react.

OK, my leftwing friends.  Here is your assignment. Start plowing through Bush's speeches and statements.  Find where he cited an "imminent threat" as the reason for moving immediately against Saddam Hussein.  If you can't find that statement, perhaps you would be so kind as to challenge your leftist friends the next time they cite this lie.  It would only be fair, wouldn't it?

DAMNED IF YOU DO ... DAMNED IF YOU DON'T

What do liberals really want?  For weeks now the left has been screaming about our progress in the restructuring of Iraq.  "Make changes," they said, "change your plan."  Now Bush has made some changes.  Condi Rice will now be in overall charge of the redevelopment and restructuring of Iraq.  Many view this as a good move.  But .. what about the left?  Are they voicing their approval of the change?  Are they making any encouraging statements at all?  Hardly.  Instead of supporting the change the left is yelling "See, see!  This is proof that Bush was doing it all wrong! See!  We were right!  Bush's plan has been a disaster!  We told you so!  See!  See!"

What children.

READING ASSIGNMENTS (just a few today)

What happens when you put liberals in charge?  As I've been saying for weeks ... just look at California.

I put this one here for my pal Royal.  Here are ten types of women to avoid at all costs.

You remember that story about how Arnold Schwarzenegger admires Hitler?  Well, it seems that we have a bit of a misquote here.  The New York Times is apologizing.

From The Daily Standard:  "Yes" on the Recall.  "No" on the L.A. Times.

Iraq had already paid North Korea about $10 million for some medium-range missiles.  U.S. Pressure kept them from being delivered.  Just another way the United States has interfered with the sovereign nation of Iraq.

There's a 35 hour work week limit in France.  Government inspectors actually roam business parking lots making sure that workers don't work more than 35 hours.  French politicians and labor leaders actually thought that this would reduce unemployment.  It didn't. Unemployment is actually up.  There are groups in this country who want similar laws here.  Bruce Bartlett  has the details.
