FRIDAY 10/10/03

Sorry, folks. With the shuttling back and forth to Atlanta last night for a speech ... and the need for at least a few hours sleep ... I actually arose at a decent hour this morning.  I got the rest, but you don't get all that many notes. But --- today is Friday and anything goes on the show anyway!

TO MY ORLANDO FRIENDS

After today's show I'm staying in town to enjoy this fabulous city.  I'll see you Saturday evening at the convention center along with Alan Colmes, Sean Hannity and my colleague Clark Howard at the WDBO Meeting of the Mouths!

RANDOM ... AND SOMETIMES INTEMPERATE THOUGHTS

In the end -- very enjoyable. Today, as yesterday, we are enjoying the incredible hospitality of the folks at Walt Disney World.  The Neal Boortz Show will broadcast from Epcot!  (Yesterday it was Disney's Animal Kingdom). But --- I had a speech in Atlanta last night!  Thanks to AirTran's heavy schedule between Atlanta and Orlando (not to mention their pricing) it was a snap and I want to thank those at the Credit Insurers Association who endured my harangue in Atlanta, for their hospitality also.

One of the greatest Internet innovations is the ability to print boarding passes for commercial airline flights.  Now if they could just do something about those hideous lines at security. Sorry to say, Orlando is one of the worst.

Neal talks with Ludacris about being a substitute host on Neal's next day off.

Yesterday President Bush said that he acted in Iraq because he wasn't about to leave the security of Americans in the hands of a madman.  I watched part of that presidential debate last night ... which one of those men was he talking about?

Speaking of the presidential debate, did anyone keep tract of the number of times John Kerry reminded everyone that he had served in Vietnam?  Can you imagine what an empty vessel this man would be if he hadn't gone to Vietnam?  He would have absolutely nothing to talk about!

In the past year stocks have risen 33% on the New York Stock Exchange.  The NASDAQ has risen by 71%.  Household income is up, productivity is up, unemployment is down.  When in the hell is George Bush going to start paying some attention to our economy?

Another 16-year-old Atlanta area driver, with friends in her car, drives off the right shoulder, overcorrects, runs off the other side of the road and hits a tree.  Two dead teenagers.  In the meantime our illustrious legislature is considering lightening up on the driving rules for 16-year-olds.

The Nobel Peace Prize has been announced.  Some are treating this as a big deal.  Yassir Arafat is a past winner .. and with that award the Nobel Peace Prize no longer deserves all of this attention.  Some Norwegian leftists  bestow their blessings and the world rejoices.  Sorry .. I'm not impressed.

NOW I'M GOING TO BE DEPRESSED ALL DAY

The Neal Boortz Show recently moved to News Talk 99 - WNOX radio in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Although we've received good response from the WNOX listeners through phone calls and e-mail, there is at least one person in Knoxville who is, shall we say, less than pleased.

Barry Henderson writes in Knoxville's Metropulse.  Here's just part of what he has to say about my efforts on WNOX.

Neal Boortz has been on Atlanta radio for something like 35 years. He's a right-winger with not so much an edge as a blunt instrument. Boortz calls himself a libertarian, thereby giving all legitimate libertarians a bad name. I'd mention that the late Lewis Grizzard, a friend of mine for years, was also a friend of Neal's, but one shouldn't speak so badly of the deceased. Personally, I've been listening to Boortz on and off-thankfully, mostly off- for more than 30 years. ... Neal Boortz adds nothing to the argument. His hopeless cynicism and jerk-off rhetoric deserves no attention at all from thoughtful people, and his radio show deserves no airtime in this market. Is anyone listening?

It's telling that Barry Henderson also states his distaste for Fox News Channel in his column.  That puts me in some pretty good company and helps to ease the sting of his negative review.  As for his question, "Is anyone listening?" --- in due time the Knoxville listeners will have their say.  Perhaps on Monday I can post some e-mail responses to Henderson's critique.
