STILL ON VACATION ....

... but I will be back in the studio on Thursday! Isn't it nice to have something to look forward to?  In the meantime, I have compiled a little selection of reading assignments for you.  See!  Your visit to Boortz.com wasn't a total waste today.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Here is the text of President Bush's speech to the nation last evening.  One passage stood out for me: "The Middle East will either become a place of progress and peace, or it will be an exporter of violence and terror that takes more lives in America and in other free nations."  Interesting choice the Democrats have made, isn't it?

If you don't read anything else today, read this.  Ted Kennedy is getting ready to show what is more important to him; paying homage to the most powerful union in the nation, or helping children escape the most pathetic government school system in the nation.  Simply put, Ted Kennedy gives pigs a bad name.

We all know that black Americans aren't particularly fond of ethnic slurs thrown their way.  Perfectly understandable.  What isn't so understandable is just why so many blacks think it's quite all right, thank you very much, to hurl ethnic slurs at Latinos.  Perhaps they're just upset because they aren't the minority numero uno any more.

If I lived in California I would be voting for McCormick, not Schwartzenegger.  Having said that, I am curious as to what sort of dirty tricks Gray Davis and his advisor Bill Clinton will come up with at the very moment of this campaign.  Yesterday Davis was touting his military record and slamming Arnold's accent.

Is the Constitution under attack from the so-called "Patriot Act?"  Well, that depends on what you think about the FBI using the Patriot Act to enter your home and plant a little bug on your computer that records every keystroke you make .. even keystrokes not connected to any e-mail messages .. and then leave.  Oh, and they don't even have to tell you they were there for three months.

The Indianapolis Star says that the treatment of Circuit Court nominee Miguel Estrada was "shameful." Indeed it was, but don't expect too many Americans to get upset. Frankly speaking, most Americans are just too damned dense to understand the consequences of what has happened here.

Virginia Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, has a thing or two to say about the Democrat's treatment of Estrad:.  "You can do all the right things in America, but if you do not agree with Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton, you need not apply as a federal judge. This is the message that Democrats hope minorities, in particular, get from their victory as they succeeded in repelling a talented man, who happens to be Hispanic, from public service. For the hard left, Miguel Estrada was not qualified to be a federal judge because he would not march to their drumbeat."

Neil Cavuto, who spells his name the wrong way, says that he used to think that Republicans weren't particularly for the concept of big government. Now he's not so sure.  I figured out that this wasn't so quite a few years ago when I joined the Libertarian Party.

Mark Alexander, executive editor of The Federalist, says that "The fate of our own republic is becoming increasingly clear -- and it bears a remarkable resemblance to that of Rome."
