NO MORE MR. NICE GUY: TIME FOR HEADS TO ROLL

U.S. forces pledged yesterday to strike back with "overwhelming force " against those responsible for the American deaths in Fallujah.  Brigadier Gen. Mark Kimmitt warned that "Coalition forces will respond. They are coming back, and they are going to hunt down those responsible for this bestial act.  It will be at a time and place of our choosing.  It will be methodical, it will be precise, and it will be overwhelming."  Good. But have we been being too nice up to this point?

The Pentagon has recently employed a strategy of using kid gloves instead of overwhelming force to "win the hearts and minds" of Iraqis.  Troops are being put through sensitivity training before they leave for Iraq, so that they avoid doing anything politically incorrect while they are there.  What a waste of time.  This is a war, we are overthrowing a government, and there is no time for such niceties.  People that would do harm to Coalition troops are going to hate us no matter what, so it's time to play a little hardball.  Rather than worry about appearances, how about just explaining the situation in words they understand: do what we say, or we'll kill you.

Now how about a little gratitude for your liberation?

POLL SAYS MOST AMERICANS DON'T FEEL SAFE SINCE 9/11

There is a new poll out and it is quite telling.  Now, keep in mind that a lot of polls are bogus...in fact, probably most are.  Some media organization calls 1,633 adults to see what they think, then proudly proclaims to have talked to all of America.  But why bother nitpicking over such small details?  Back to the poll.

Fewer than half of those polled think the country is safer now than it was on September 11, 2001, and more than three-quarters think the United States will be the target of a terrorist attack in the next few months. Now comes the bombshell: while the poll showed most Americans are concerned about terrorism, it was ranked behind the economy and health care as the nation's top priorities. What?

Folks, we've got a problem here.  At a time when  the United States is under attack, at a time when we are at war and involved in a global war on terrorism, what are people worried about?  The economy and health care.  That's pathetic. Have we reached a point where everyone is turning into a bunch of whiners, more concerned about what handouts the government is going to give them, than they are about their own safety?  Sadly, that seems to be the case.  I guess we have government schools to thank for teaching people that.  The  most important constitutional duty of the federal government is to provide for a national defense.  Not health care, not jobs programs and not welfare spending.

Here's a better polling question: which do you suppose the victims of 9/11 were more worried about: terrorism, or health care and the economy? I rest my case.

A NOTE ABOUT THE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION

It seems to be a foregone conclusion in the media these days that the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq will never be found, that they did not exist and Saddam Hussein...boy he just  didn't have any banned weapons.  Yeah right...what a load.

Now we have a published report of an interview with a former Iraqi scientist, now living in Australia. He has told a newspaper that he knows of at least five secret storage bunkers around Baghdad, Basra and Tikrit, there of which he visited as one of Iraq's top scientists. He says there were lethal chemicals, artillery shells and rockets armed with chemicals stored there. Assuming he's telling the truth, where are they now?

Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, and he used them. They will probably be found one day, and then what will the media, the Democrats and John sKerry have to say?  That the WMD's were safely stored and didn't represent a threat? Yeah right.

INTEMPERATE THOUGHTS

The media is now focusing its attention on what Bush did or did not do before 9/11.  In a worst-case scenario, what are the voters going to do?  Are they going to punish Bush for his pre-9/11 failings by handing our country over to a leftist who wants to treat terrorism as a law enforcement problem?

It's springtime .. time for soccer and little league baseball.  It's also time for you to make sure that your local soccer or baseball league doesn't keep score.  After all, there should be no winners and losers, right?  Only participants.  We don't want to damage the little darling's self esteem, do we?

I got an email yesterday from a vision screener.  He says he just handled a three-year-old little girl who was already on Ritalin.  Now there's an abused child.

The newest $200 million dollar plus lottery winner is introduced to the media yesterday .... with a toothpick sticking out of his mouth.  No matter how much money you have, you can't hide class.

Do you want to save some money on gasoline?  One sure way is to check the air pressure in your tires.  More gas is wasted by low tire pressure than by high-speed driving.

Democrats are demanding the release of the full text of a speech by Condi Rice ... a speech that she never delivered.  How about the Democrats handing over the full text of all speeches they never delivered.

Is John Kerry soft on terrorism?  Yes ... but that's not the biggest danger.  He's also soft on national sovereignty.

MORE RICHARD CLARKE DAMAGE

Clarke was a Bush Administration holdover from the Clinton White House.  He voted for Al Gore.  He didn't want George Bush to become the President, and it's clear he doesn't want him to stay the president.  There is certainly something to be said for one administration keeping certain advisors from previous presidents ...especially in the area of national security.  It makes no sense for a new president to start from zero when it comes to the security advisors.  But that is exactly what is going to happen in the future.  Because Clarke decided to write his book at a critical time, and before the first term of this president even ended, future presidents will clean house of all security advisors as soon as they get home from the inauguration.  This will not be in the best interests of our national security, but political survival will come first.

The United Nations wants to take over the internet, and your Talkmaster is sounding the warning bell.

The Kent School District in Kent, Washington is under fire for its security officials using handcuffs to restrain unruly students.  It might hurt their feelings.  Poor babies....too bad. Naturally, an investigation is underway.

Here's an idea that needs to be implemented here. Canadian government officials are being forced to list their taxpayer-paid expenses online. Wouldn't be so easy to hide the spending from the public then, would it?

FCC Chairman Michael Powell is warning broadcasters that they don't want the government to write a book of dos and don'ts.  That's right, we don't.

Charles Krauthammer was not moved by Richard Clarke's apology to the 9/11 Commission, and he explains why.

Jeff Jacoby writes about what has gone right in Iraq. You may be surprised to learn about some of the successes you're unlikely to hear about anywhere else.

Paul Greenberg looks at the decision to allow Condoleezza Rice testify in front of the 9/11 Commission.

Will terrorists attempt to influence the November election by striking on US soil?  Gary Aldrich examines the question.

Bruce Bartlett says people are finally fighting back on the outsourcing issue, and it's about time. Some interesting data that may surprise you.

David Limbaugh compares the 1971 John Kerry model to the 2004 version.

It looks like several columnists are looking into Kerry's past, and that's a good thing.  This one from Mona Charen.

Jacob Sullum has an excellent column about fairness in the workplace. Times change, and no one has a right to keep any job forever.

Believe it or not, John Kerry is proposing to make government smaller. Unfortunately, according to the National Taxpayers Union, Kerry's smaller government is going to be much  more expensive.

William F. Buckley talks about the war against President Bush, and just who is waging it.

And now, courtesy of the Heritage Foundation, ten myths about outsourcing. A little common sense to cut through the hysteria out there.  Don't expect to read this in the mainstream media.

Oh boy ... hold on.  Scientists are saying that a big shakeup is on its way to Southern California before September.  Let's hope Barbra Streisand and Alex Baldwin are at home.

WarningBad words ... but funny.  Very funny.
