PLEASE READ THIS We'll start my program notes today with a reading assignment. It's a column by Victor Davis Hansen and it appears in National Review Online. Here's your link. The article puts some of the left's most oft-used myths about the war in Iraq to a well-deserved rest, including:
This is serious business, folks. American men and women are dying to protect us from Islamic terrorism, to bring freedom and self-determination to millions of people who have been living under a dictatorship of unspeakable brutality for over 30 years, and to show the world that the United States simply will not allow any country to develop chemical, biological or nuclear weapons that reasonable foresight would tell you might end up in the hands of terrorists .. eventually to be used against us. Why do the majority of Americans think that deposing Saddam Hussein was the right thing to do? Because these people are bright enough to understand that there is only one possible way to protect our country from the eventuality of the unspeakable horror of a terrorist attack using these horrible weapons ... and that is to take preemptive action where necessary to make sure that these weapons don't fall into the hands of despots .... especially, dare I say it, Middle Eastern despots. The majority of Americans understand that Saddam had these weapons, that he used these weapons, and that, if left alone, he will develop more and that eventually they will fall into the hands of people who don't particularly like us all that much. And one more thing is needed to make us safe. People -- especially those who would do us harm -- have to believe that when America says it is going to do something -- you can take it to the bank. That was not the lesson that President Bush (41) taught the Arab world in 1991. That was not the lesson taught by Bill Clinton in Somalia. Each failure of resolve led to more attacks, more death. Read the article. At least print it for later reading. It's damned good ammunition for the appeasement crowd. WIMPING OUT IN FALLUJAH President Bush has decided against mounting a full-scale attack on insurgents in Fallujah because the administration is worried about how it would make us look in Iraq and throughout the Arab world. I'll tell you how an assault on Fallujah would make us look. It would make us look strong, determined and decisive. And not attacking the insurgents in Fallujah will make us look weak and indecisive. The only way the Islamic terrorists in Iraq are going to be crushed is if we unleash the full strength of the United States military. This nibbling around the edges business with joint Iraqi police and Marine patrols ain't cutting it. Time for a little shock and awe. The problem is, we're worried about appearances at a time when we shouldn't care. The only way these people are going to get the message is if we hit back so hard they are either exterminated, or give up. We've tried negotiating, we've tried asking them to turn in their weapons...none of it has worked. And so now the Marines are parked outside Najaf and Fallujah twiddling their thumbs while the Islamic terrorists regroup and strengthen. They won't give up, they're going to have to be captured or killed. Sitting on our hands? That's something you would expect from United Nations. Now, I'm sorry. I forgot. The United Nations ran as soon as the first bomb fell. Are we suddenly going to start fighting this war like Vietnam? Are we now engaged in a battle that the politicians in Washington won't let the military win? Politicians need to let the military do their jobs. There are reports from Fallujah this morning that Marines are taking fire from mosques. There are other reports that Islamic radical insurgents are stockpiling weapons in mosques and schools. Weapons stockpiles in schools. That's a Palestinian trick. The coalition should issue a statement stating that from this point on as soon as any coalition forces take any fire from a mosque, the mosque shall cease being a mosque and will be considered a target. Tell the Iraqis that the choice is theirs. Use the building for worship, and it's a mosque. Use it to attack coalition forces, and it's a pile of rubble. BONE UP ON THE POODLE Here are some good reading assignments for those of you who want a better understanding of what makes The Poodle tick. First we have the transcript of Kerry's testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on April 22, 1971. Then two columns from Mac Owens, a professor of strategy and force planning at the Naval War College and, like Kerry, a Vietnam vet. In the first column Owens asks is what Kerry said about our troops in Vietnam was true; then a more recent column saying that Kerry defamed his fellow soldiers in Nam. DID THE POODLE LIE? OH NO! THE POODLE WOULD NEVER LIE, WOULD HE? It looks like John Kerry has been caught in another lie. The Drudge Report is stating that ABC's Good Morning America will spill the beans today on whether or not John Kerry ever told the American people that it was his medals he threw away at a protest in 1971. If you go to Kerry's website you will see the following statement. Just in case the sKerry people remove it from the website ... here it is faithfully copied and pasted:
Well, it seems that ABC has a tape of a John Kerry interview made in 1971, shortly after the protest, in which Kerry boasts of throwing away his medals, not someone else's. Kerry's exact words? "I gave back, I can't remember, 6, 7, 8, 9 medals." So .. Kerry's website says that the charge that he said he threw away his medals is a "right wing fiction." He told Peter Jennings that the idea he threw away his medals was a "myth." Then ... there he is, 33 years ago, saying that he gave back his Bronze Star, his Silver Star, and three Purple Hearts. Then he says ".. and above that, [I] gave back the others." What we have here is a succession of lies. First he says he threw away his medals. Then he says he didn't throw away his medals when union officials criticized the action. Then he said he threw away his ribbons and not his medals. Then he says he would have thrown away his medals, but he didn't have time to go back to New York and get them from his home. So, what is the truth? The truth is that sKerry will say whatever he needs to say at any given point in time in order to gain the greatest political acceptance and support from whomever he happens to be speaking to. And just what did John Kerry have to say this morning when he was interviewed by Charles Gibson? He said that this is all being pushed by the Republicans who can't even prove that George Bush showed up for his National Guard service. Yeah ... that's the way to handle this. You divert the attention from the story about your medals ... and try to focus again on George Bush's service in the National Guard. The Poodle says that George Bush "has yet to tell the truth" about his service in the National Guard. You should have heard the interview. Kerry was in full panic mode. He was caught .. nailed ... and he knew it. Not a good day for Kerry. Here's a question. What is more amazing here: That Kerry would lie, or that ABC News would actually expose the lie? Actually, ABC has been on a role of late. First they busted the U.N. Oil-For-Food scam and now they're taking on the Kerry campaign. Unbelievable. WHY DO I REFER TO JOHN KERRY AS THE POODLE? Simple:
That pretty much cover's it. THE POODLE'S FAMILY SUV And one more note about The Poodle. One more note because I want to make it as clear as I can that you trust John Kerry's words at your peril. As you know, sKerry loves to go around criticizing people for driving "gas-guzzling" SUVs. Like most "environmentalists," he blames these vehicles for global warming, destroying the environment and gobbling more of their fair share of gasolene. But ... like most anti-capitalist "environmentalists," it turns out sKerry is a complete hypocrite. He owns an SUV himself! But wait...it actually gets better. When confronted by a reporter in Houston (on Earth Day, no less) and asked whether or not he owned an SUV, Kerry replied "I don't own an SUV." Kerry was then asked whether or not his wife owned a Chevrolet SUV. His response? "The family has it. I don't have it." You've got to be kidding me....he's actually blaming his wife for driving the gas guzzler! I'm sure she really appreciated that. And what about that big Suburban Kerry tools around in on the campaign trail? How about that? Like most eco-radical enviro-phonies, Kerry doesn't practice what he preaches. He lives in big mansions that use large amounts of energy, drives big cars and big boats and has an SUV. Then he actually gets up there and tries to act like a holier-than-thou environmental advocate -- while passing the buck to his wife! Maybe the Secret Service should shuttle sKerry around in a Toyota Prius instead to cut down on harmful emissions. After all, Kerry generates enough hot air on his own. AN EASIER PATH TO AIRLINE SECURITY The Transportation Security Agency is setting up a test of a new screening system. They're going to take the personal information of airline passengers, names -- phone numbers -- addresses -- birthdates, and cross-reference that information with any information they can get from commercial databases. What commercial databases? How about how often you move, how often you change jobs, what magazines you subscribe too, where you shop, where you eat out. That kind of information. For years the government has been trying to get unfettered access to the computer databases of credit card companies. You would be shocked what these databases could reveal. Just think about when, where and for what you use your credit cards. Think of the map that could draw of your daily activities. And here's another commercial database for you. Do you have one of those intrusive grocery store "preferred customer" cards? If you do, there's a database somewhere that can track every single purchase you've made at that grocery store, or the book store, or the drug store. Will all of this be made available to the TSA so that they can use it to build a profile on you? Here's an easier way ... a less intrusive way. If an airline passenger wants to submit this information in return for an easier time at the security checkpoints, let them. If they don't want to become part of the TSA's data hunt, let them just endure the security checkpoints as they have been doing. GOLLY! WAS IT SOMETHING I SAID? This letter to the editor appeared in the Atlanta newspaper on Sunday:
Now I have been telling you for years that the left has talk radio in the crosshairs. They're giving their liberal talk radio experiment a go right now ... but it is doomed to failure. When Air America does turn out the lights the battle against libertarian and conservative talk radio will hit a fever pitch. Now, let's consider Tracy Williams. When the left tries to shut down talk radio, probably through some contrivance connected with the repulsive Campaign Finance Reform Act, do you think that Tracy E. Williams Jr. will be there fighting for freedom of speech and freedom of the press? Sure you do. And you believe that Tracy is going to sprout wings and fly to Bermuda too, don't you? INTEMPERATE THOUGHTS Who is going to be the first to step forward and announce that they are going to produce a movie on the life and death of Pat Tillman. A worthy project? Yes. But the stories of the others who have made the ultimate sacrifice would be just as compelling. Isn't it good, though, that this country still produces men and women like Pat Tillman and his fellow soldiers in Iraq. One of the best color commentators in sports is Darrell Waltrip. You'll hear him on the NASCAR telecasts. Yesterday, in commenting on the drafting at Talladega, Waltrip said "People don't even park this close." Good line. You think Republicans are for smaller government? Well, then why don't you tell me just why in the last 75 years or so not one Republican administration has ever cut the size of government. Isn't it about time to put this lie -- myth -- whatever you want to call it away? Americas most-hated reality show contest ever? You know ... the one who likes to play the race card when the going gets a bit rough? Well, that would be Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth. It's worth mentioning that she worked in the Clinton-Gore White House. READING ASSIGNMENTS George Bush wants to hold back on Fallujah. Someone put the Wall Street Journal on the President's desk. That's where you'll find this editorial explaining that the Islamic insurgents understand guns, not diplomacy. Do you want to know why businesses are leaving Kalifornia? Just read this from Thomas Sowell. John Stossel is one of my favorites ... virtually the only reason to ever watch ABC 20-20. Not surprisingly, Stossel isn't very well liked in his industry ... after all, he's not a leftist, big-government-loving moron. In a nationally televised address to Iraq, Ambassador Paul Bremer told Iraqis that if they do not defend their country, it will not be saved. Check it out. Coal production is an important issue in Ohio and West Virginia, two states that Kerry needs to win the presidency. Problem is, as Robert Novak points out, sKerry is no friend to the mining business. How's come a presidential candidate that has constantly focused on his military record is not releasing every piece of official documentation? Diana West looks for answers to this and other mysteries. Wondering why the Bush administration bothered talking to Bob Woodward in the first place? So does Bruce Bartlett, who looks at what happened to other people who have cooperated with Woodward in the past. The president of Egypt told a French newspaper that the occupation of Iraq has turned the Arab world against America. Jeff Jacoby wonders why Mubarak didn't say that when he recently visited President Bush. The Bush campaign is actually recommending people read Bob Woodward's book. John Leo says it actually presents the president in a positive light. To prove that people's choices cause obesity and not the restaurants themselves, a New Hampshire woman has set out to eat every day at McDonald's and lose weight. Suzanne fields Investigates. Bill Clinton is back, and that has John Kerry's campaign strategists worried. Paul Greenberg details how the former president is going to be stealing the show. A lot of people think Jamie Gorelick should be kicked off the 9/11 Commission. Jay Bryant says they're nuts, and that keeping her on is actually a good idea, since it will help discredit their final report. A lot of people are scratching their heads over President Bush's support of Arlen Specter in the upcoming Republican primary in Pennsylvania. William F. Buckley makes sense of it all. | |||
