JUST SOME BRIEF VACATION NOTES

Still on vacation, but I can't resist to add some thoughts of my own to the notes generated by my Boortz Show colleagues

  • The world is finding more ways to blame America for the tsunami tragedy.  Already, as I predicted, we have "environmentalists" suggesting that the earthquake, and thus the tsunami, was triggered by global warming which, of course, is triggered by greedy Americans driving SUVs.  Now we are learning that the tragedy in these countries was multiplied because they're so poor, and the reason that they're so poor is because the evil United States refuses to end their poverty through some device or another.
  • As I saw the tragic scene of bodies being dumped ... literally dumped ... in mass graves the thought occurred to me that there are so many families who will never have any solid idea of what happened to their wives, husbands, fathers, mothers and children.  Look for massive insurance fraud.  Who do you think will be the first person projected for saying that their heavily insured wife or husband perished in a tsunami and was obviously buried in a mass grave.
  • By the way.  I really don't care to read any more about the damned celebrities, including that freaking "supermodel" who were caught up in the disaster.  I'm sure the people who lost their entire families in Sri Lanka don't care either.
  • Remember this.  Americans are going to spend tens of millions of dollars helping the victims of this tragedy and rebuilding their countries.  Then, as soon as we are through, these nations they'll be right back to resenting us and hating us for the very wealth that allowed us to help them in the first place.  Also .. many of the nations we'll be spending the money on are heavily or predominantly Muslim.  Remember ... no good deed goes unpunished.
  • I noticed an article in this morning's Atlanta Journal Constitution saying that the economy is not being kind to the working poor.  I read the entire article, and nowhere was any mention made of the behaviors of the so-called " working poor" that keep them poor or make them poorer.  What behaviors?  Running up credit card bills to pay for lifestyle instead of life's necessities.  The failure to develop marketable job skills.  Then, of course, there's having children you can't afford to raise.  When in the world are we ever going to be honest enough to tell these poor, poor, pitiful poor people that maybe they should give second thoughts to the idea of having children that they can't afford.  By the way, when was the last time you saw a "poor" person without a cell phone?
  • Finally ... don't you just love unions?    Over the Christmas weekend some US Airways employees decided it would be a good idea for a little union fun and games.  They called in "sick" in huge numbers.  The result was chaos as thousands of holiday travelers were separated from their luggage.  Remember the first rule of airline unions.  The airline must not be allowed to make a profit and the passengers don't count.  These people have the typical union mentality.  They think they're actually working for their union, not for the airline.  Unions.  gotta love 'em.

Now ... let's see what my Belinda, Royal, Ken, Bryan and the Winsome Web Wench have to add to all of this.

DEATH TOLL EXCEEDS 60,000 FROM TSUNAMI

The death toll continues to rise by the minute, with fears of the spread of disease from rotting corpses possibly doubling the number.  If you'd like to help, the American Red Cross is accepting contributions to their International Response Fund.  You can donate a number of ways, including by mail, online and by phone.  The minimum is five bucks, and I'm sure every little bit counts.

UN OFFICIAL BACKPEDALS

The United Nations official who accused America of being stingy with its Tsunami aid has backpedaled and called the contribution "very generous."  The U-turn came after Colin Powell appeared on the morning shows, saying "The United States is not stingy.  We will do more.  I wish that comment hadn't been made."  Yesterday, the United States kicked up our contribution, from $15 million to $35 million.

For his part, Jan Egeland, United Nations undersecretary-general for humanitarian affairs, says he was "misinterpreted," and that he didn't mean to say any particularly nation was stingy, but still said he believed rich nations could be more generous.  Whatever...six of one, half a dozen of the other.  Anyway, he called America's and Europe's contributions to the Tsunami relief "very generous."  Of course he had to fall in line.

Without the United States, there is no United Nations, and by extension, no Jan Egeland.  We've been pickup up the tab for 60 years.  Whoever pays the piper gets to pick the tune, so he had to fall in line sooner or later.

BUSH ACCUSED OF INSENSITIVITY

As predicted, the media is well on its way to blaming the Asian tsunami disaster on the President of the United States, George W. Bush.  Didn't take long, did it?  Why is he being accused of insensitivity?  Apparently, because:

--He was on vacation when the tsunamis hit.  An American president is never on vacation.  The White House travels with him.

--He didn't rush back to Washington and hold a press conference at the White House

Explaining Bush's absence from public view, a White House official said "The president wanted to be fully briefed on our efforts. He didn't want to make a symbolic statement about 'We feel your pain.' "  In other words, he rightly concluded that there was no point to seizing the tragedy for political gain and making public statements that won't do anything to help the people affected by the Tsunami.

This type of thing has come up before.  During the Iraq war, people have criticized Bush for not attending the funerals of soldiers killed in action.  The president stayed away because he didn't want to make people in attendance go through metal detectors and be disturbed in their time of grief.

Bush is a man of action, not words.  Even after 4 years, the media still hasn't gotten used to it.

BUT BILL CLINTON FEELS THEIR PAIN

Shamelessly grabbing the spotlight was none other than America's famous publicity whore Bill Clinton.  Craving some attention, Saint Clinton came out of hiding to give an interview to the BBC.  " It is really important that somebody take the lead in this," said the former president.  Of course, private relief agencies, the United Nations and the like are not enough.

Anyway, this is the kind of phony compassion that Clinton was famous for.  If there is any tragedy anywhere, he feels your pain.  Nevermind the fact that it doesn't mean anything.  What's going to help those people is food and supplies, not the empty words of a corrupt former president.

Shut up and go away, Bill.  You're not the president anymore (thankfully.)

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Jan Egeland knew exactly what he was saying when he called the United States stingy, and he meant every word of it.  This editorial brings the whole thing into perspective.   If Egeland really wanted some big bucks, he might pass the hat amongst his colleagues that profited from the Oil-For-Food scam.

The United Nations is propped up almost entirely by the United States, yet curiously we're called on to do more when there is a huge disaster.  Jonah Goldberg breaks down the 'stingy' comment as well as the UN's involvement.

The animals in Sri Lanka apparently knew something was up, and headed for higher ground.  Officials haven't really found too many dead ones.

The jihad against Christians and Christmas continues even after the holidays as one whiner complains about a Christmas tree recycling program in Chicago.

Steve Forbes says we should expel the "privileged, pampered" bureaucrats of the UN from New York.  Not a bad idea, but as he concedes, it probably won't happen.

Osama Bin Laden is against free elections in Iraq because it means the establishment of a democracy in the Middle East, which the freedom- hating Islamo-fascists can't stand.  Ralph Peters has more.

2004 was a good year for terrorists and law-breaking illegal aliens....Michelle Malkin takes a look at it all in the Homeland Insecurity year in review.

The attack on Christmas is really an attack on Western Values, says Walter Williams.  After all...you never hear of anyone calling for the removal of the Muslim star and crescent, do you?

Linda Chavez notes the contrast between the relief effort in Sri Lanka and the conquests of the Islamofascists in the Middle East.  She says it's a brilliant display between good and evil.

Bill Moyers has retired, and Brent Bozell says good riddance.  He chronicles Mr. Moyers' legacy of liberalism on PBS and his outgoing potshots at the Internet and talk radio.

Is remembering to put the toilet seat down too difficult? Are you awakened in the middle of the night by your wife's screams as she plops down on the rim of the toilet seat once again? Then you need the LavNav! Remember, Valentine's Day is just around the corner.
