STAND UP AND FIGHT ... DAMMIT!

This is a story about spineless Republicans in Washington.  This a story about Orin Hatch being rolled by the filibustering fanatics on the Senate Judiciary Committee.  This is a clear illustration of just why Democrats always seem to get the best of Republicans when the gloves come off on Capitol Hill.

Let me try to make this real simple.    The Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee together with their Democratic minority in the U.S. Senate were determined to see to it that the hated George Bush didn't get any of his conservative nominees placed on any important U.S. Appeals Courts.  To do this they were going to do something that has never been done before since our Constitution was adopted.  They were going to use a Senate rule to circumvent the U.S. Constitution and work to prevent a Senate confirmation vote for a judicial nominee who had been referred to the Senate for confirmation.  What's more, they were going to prevent a vote on a nominee for whom the majority of the Senate was ready to approve.

As the Democrats hatched their plans for a filibuster memos flew between Democratic staffers on the Senate Judiciary committee.  A Republican staffer saw the memos, read them, and eventually they were leaked to the press.

So ... just what did these memos say?  Well, one memo to Democratic Senator Richard Durbin said " .. most of Bush's nominees are Nazis."  Another memo to Durbin said that Bush nominee Miguel Estrada was objectionable to liberal groups because " .. he is a Latino, and the White House seems to be grooming him for a Supreme Court nomination."

Stop for a minute and contemplate the nuclear outrage that would follow a revelation that a Republican Senate Staffer had sent a memo to a Republican Senator about a black judicial nominee explaining why conservative groups object to the nomination by saying " ... he is black, and the White House seems to be grooming him for a Supreme Court nomination."  Such a memo would be at the top of the front page of every liberal newspaper in the country for six months.

So ... was there any eruption of outrage in the nation's media over the content of these memos?  Are you kidding?  The Democrats immediately went on the offensive demanding a full investigation as to just how the memos were leaked.  Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Orin Hatch ... the man who refused to hold the Democrats feet to the fire on their filibuster ... immediately rolled over and played dead.  He has now asked for the resignation of a Republican committee staffer.  Meanwhile, few people are aware, and nobody seems to care that Democrats on the committee referred to most of Bush's nominees as "Nazis" and objected to one nominee because he was Hispanic.

Question:  When in the hell are Senate Republicans going to grow a spine?  While the Democrats are demanding investigations on memo leaks, why isn't that wimp Orin Hatch demanding an investigation on whether or not Democrats opposed a Bush nominee because of his ethnic heritage, and as to just which Democratic staffer it was who considers most of Bush's nominees to be Nazis?

Answer:  Never.  If these Senate Republicans can't fight their own president on spending, they sure as hell can't fight Democrats on ethnic name calling and filibusters that violate the very spirit of our Constitution.

Gutless wonders.

TENNESSEE, VIRGINIA PRIMARIES TODAY

At this point, it almost seems like a formality, but Tennessee and Virginia hold their primaries today.  Despite saying the south didn't matter, Kerry is leading in both states.  The sure sign that the best that John Edwards can hope for is the fact that he can't even win his neighboring state. Campaigning in Virginia yesterday, Kerry criticized a new White House report predicting 2.6 million jobs will be created this year.  Remember, a strong economy is bad news for the Democrats. They want to feel your pain.

There are other guys running, of course, for reasons only known to them. John Edwards continues to say he is the only candidate that can beat George Bush in the south.  Edwards said yesterday that his campaign was preparing for a "nominating process that's going to go well into March."  Weasley continues to sputter, after winning only Oklahoma by 1,300 votes.

Now ... today is NOT going to show us whether or not Kerry can win in the South.  He's not running against Bush, he's running against the other Democratic candidates.  The truth will be told in November.

Howard Dean is not competing in today's primaries. What a loss.  No screaming speech tonight.  Well ... Maybe Al Gore will take to the stump again.

DEAN CHANGES MIND: WISCONSIN LOSS WOULDN'T END CANDIDACY

Speaking of Howard Dean .... he  sent an e-mail to supporters last week saying that Wisconsin was a make-or-break state and that he would drop out of the race if he lost there. Well, what a difference a week makes.  Now Dean knows that he's not going to win in Wisconsin ... so the game plan has changed.  Now he's telling us that he's going to stay in the race whether he wins Wisconsin or not. So much for that promise.

Where's the credibility here? First, in order to raise the most money for his "last stand," Dean stressed that it all came down to Wisconsin.  His desperate please generated $1.1  million in contributions. Then, once he had cash in hand and realized he was still in fourth place in recent polling, he says "the truth now appears to be that we're going to have to find a way to stay in." Will he refund the contributions of people who assumed he would keep his word? Of course not.

How anyone can take this guy seriously at this point is beyond me.  Thus far there have been no reported suicides among Deanie Babies.

ISLAMIC EXTREMISTS INVADE U.S.

This report should make you just want to run right on down and vote for John Kerry. According to U.S. and foreign officials, Islamic radicals are being trained at terrorist camps in Pakistan and Kashmir. These terrorists are being trained to join sleeper cells currently operating in the United States.

A high-ranking intelligence chief told the Washington Times in an interview last week that this network of training camps "represents a serious threat to the United States and cannot  be ignored."  That same official said camps in Pakistan and Kashmir are the source of 400 terrorists. U.S. intelligence officials said the camps are financed in part by various groups, including Al-Qaeda and sources in Saudi Arabia.

Of course, Pakistan denies all of this completely, saying there are no terrorist training camps in their country. This is the same government whose intelligence service had been know to be sympathetic to Al-Qaeda and the Taliban.  In addition, the Indian government said its army had photographs and other evidence of ongoing terrorist training in Pakistan and Kashmir.

John Kerry?  Remember, he would treat all of this as a law enforcement problem.  Let's send someone to Pakistan with some search warrants. That ought to do it.  Or maybe Kerry can ask the UN to clean this mess up for us.

But what about Bush?  How much proof will he need before American troops head into Pakistan to clean out these reported training camps?  Is it possible that the constant hammering from the left has made it more difficult for Bush to act on information like this?  If so, who presents the greater danger to Americans; the terrorists training in Pakistan, or the Democrats in this country who are sabotaging our will to fight them?

Al-Qaeda sleeper cells are believed to be awaiting orders in 40 states in this country, and all we can talk about in the presidential campaign is Iraq. What is it going to take for people to wake up?

THE CHALLENGE GOES UNANSWERED

It has now been almost two weeks since I issued my challenge for you to prove the conservative bias of Fox News Channel. The challenge is simple.  Watch Special Report with Brit Hume in the evening.  Note any instances of conservative bias in reporting the news that you see and give us a call or send us an email.  Now those panel discussions at the end of the show don't count.  There are liberals, moderates and conservatives on those panels.  That's not news, that's opinion.  Just find me the instances of bias in the actual reporting of the news.

This challenge is now two weeks old ... actually months old ... and do you know how many notes I've received stating specific instances of conservative bias?  None.  Not one.  Nunca.  Nada. Nyet.  Not any.

Come on folks.  Isn't it commonly accepted that Fox News Channel is just loaded with right wing fanatics and bias?  Can't you come up with one tiny example?

GORE GOES NUTS

Yes, you will hear the sound bites of Al Gore losing it at a Democratic fundraiser in Nashville over the weekend, and you'll hear some interesting response.  Just tune in to the show today.

TODAY'S JOHN KERRY NOTE

You've seen Kerry talking about how he is the man to take Washington back from the special interests.  Well let's take a look at some of Kerry's history.  Would you say that big oil was a special interest?  How about tobacco and booze? It seems that from 1985 to 1990 John Kerry took in about $120,000 making speeches to these groups.  Pretty big bucks.  And just why did those payments stop in 1990?  Because they became illegal, that's why.

BOYCOTT BRAZIL

Carnival is under way in Rio.  Time to go to Brazil, right?

Well ... before you head out, remember that Brazil is retaliating against the United States because we've started paying attention to foreigners who enter our country.  We fingerprint and photograph them.  Brazil has retaliated by doing the same to Americans entering Brazil.  Americans who protest the fingerprinting are being fined.  We were attacked ... they weren't.

Those who do go to Carnival in Rio will see a float showing Uncle Sam with his pants down exposing his genitals.

There are other places you can go for vacation; places that don't throw childish fits because we are trying to protect ourselves.

THE POOR, POOR PITIFUL POOR

I'm starting to hear political candidates invoke the poor lately.  We need to do this for the poor.  Then we need to do that for the poor.  Then we need to make sure that this policy doesn't affect the poor.

What poor?

There are very, very few poor people in the United States.  If you have a car, a microwave, a color television, a cell phone, clothes on your back and a roof over your head you are not poor.  The average person defined by the government as "living in poverty" in this country is enjoying a standard of living that surpasses the average .. not the average poor ... the average person in Western Europe.

Poverty is a mental disease.  Barring mental or physical disaster, the so-called "poor" in this country are right where they are because of the combined affect of the decisions they have made in their lives.  The decision to pay attention or not to pay attention to their education.  The decision to work, or not to work.  The decision to spend their weekends flopped on the couch or to get out there and work a second job in an attempt to get ahead.  The decision to get pregnant with a child you can't afford to raise, or the decision to practice some sexual and reproductive responsibility.  Drugs, or no drugs?  Cigarettes, or no cigarettes?  They make the decisions in their lives, and I'm damned tired of living the consequences.

Later this week I'm going to write a little speech that I would deliver if I were a candidate ... a speech about the poor.  Then you'll see why I could never run.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Oh this is good news.  The Washington Times is reporting that Islamic extremists are coming into the United States and joining sleeper cells.  Tell you what, let's treat this as a law enforcement problem.

There's a big test on the horizon for Bush.  Will he put the breaks on that monster highway construction bill working its way through congress?  It's a jobs program folks.

This is going to be great fodder for the Bush campaign TV ads. A photo is going around showing John Kerry protesting the Vietnam war with 'Hanoi Jane' Fonda. This is just the beginning....Kerry has so many skeletons in his closet he had to rent a storage unit.

How will the Democrats explain this. Documents show that none other than U.N. chief arms inspector Hans Blix believed Saddam was hiding secret weapons.  I guess 'ole Hans misled the American people too.

This column by a Vietnam-era veteran says Kerry is no hero.

Thomas Sowell says that the WMD issue is a political one that is being played for more than it is worth.

National Review sets the record straight on President Bush's military service.

Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter says John Kerry has some explaining to do about Iraq.

This is a stellar column about how the Democrats don't get the terror threat. The deficit won't kill anyone, but terrorists will.

The 2004 election represents a fateful choice:  do we entrust our safety and security with someone who believes the United Nations is our best protector? Good read.

Racial preferences take a hit in Florida.  This is a good thing.

Men's Journal has named the 25 Toughest Guys in America.  Guess who's number 25!

Hillary Clinton angered by State Trooper in California ..... gives chase.

Another home invader bites the dust!  Yeee haw!

Gun Control isn't about guns.  It's about control.
