NEAL IS OFF TO WASHINGTON D.C.

Neal is off to Washington D.C. He'll be broadcasting live Friday from the Heritage Foundation. Meanwhile, he sent us this picture of him on his way to D.C.

DEMOCRATS CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH FROM GREENSPAN

Finally the truth has been spoken: Social Security, in its current form,  cannot be sustained.  Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan warned a House Budget Committee that because of the budget deficit and the retiring baby boomers, future cuts in Social Security and Medicare will be needed to prevent tax increases that would damage the economy. Since this is unacceptable to the Gimme Generation, Democrats immediately went into hysterics.

But Greenspan is absolutely right. People need to get it through their thick skulls that Social Security is broke. There is no trust fund. The lockbox is empty. Current beneficiaries are paid off by later ones. In private business, this is called a Ponzi scheme, and they put people in jail for it. What is being perpetrated on the American people with Social Security is so fraudulent, it makes Enron look like a bike ride.

Right now, as you read this, Social Security is $26 trillion in debt. President Bush has proposed allowing younger workers to invest part of their own Social Security  money, but this is just a half-measure. The program needs to be privatized as soon as possible. Under a private system, beneficiaries would see a dramatically higher return on their investment than the current system. As it stands now, you will get far less from Social Security than you put in when you retire.

Remember: there is no Social Security fund waiting for you when you retire. It's all a big lie.

NORTH KOREA REPORTEDLY TO HALT NUCLEAR PROGRAM

The Chinese government quoted a Russian negotiator today as saying that North Korea will abolish its military nuclear program, but will maintain a "peaceful" nuclear capability, whatever that means. The report was carried by a Chinese news agency.

South Korea's deputy foreign minister said that China and Russia have agreed to provide energy aid to the country in exchange for dumping the nukes. How nice. The only problem?  North Korea promised not to build a nuclear weapons program in the first place, and they did it anyway. Why should we believe them now?  This is a guy who is starving his own people on purpose; there is no other reason for poverty in North Korea.

And why on Earth would anyone in their right mind trust Kim Jong-Il? In addition to being the most repressive dictator in the world, the man is a complete fruitcake. He's nuts. The major sources of income to the North Korean government are weapons sales to rogue regimes, the counterfeiting of U.S. currency, and illegal drug trafficking. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands in his government reeducation camps where people are reportedly tortured, executed and experimented upon.  This is who we are going to trust to halt their nuclear program?

North Korea should be next in line for a regime change.

EARTH TO KERRY: JOBS HAVE INCREASED UNDER BUSH

Senator John Kerry is running ads in the Super Tuesday states talking about the "millions of jobs lost" during President Bush's term. Sounds like a really impressive stump speech for the Democratic front-runner. Too bad it's totally and completely false.  Of course, Democrats never let facts get in the way of their Bush-hating.

At least 2.4 million jobs have been created since the president took office, with 2 million of those coming just last year. At least 366,000 jobs have been created in the last five months, and 100,000 of those in January. There are many signs that the economy is recovering.

The current unemployment rate is at 5.6%, the lowest in 2 years. That is lower than the average of the 1990's, which was 5.8%. Consumer spending grew between 4 and 5% last year. Hourly earnings rose 1.5%. American workers number 138.5 million, the highest level in American history. The economy is recovering quite nicely and soon will be booming.

Of course, none of this good news suits the political purposes of the Democrats and their buddies in the media. Good economic news for you is bad for liberals, and they know it.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

The new Mel Gibson movie 'The Passion of the Christ' raked in $15-$20 million in one day yesterday. A woman in Wichita had a heart attack during the film and later died. That movie sure must be something.

Clear Channel has booted Howard Stern off its radio stations after deeming his show too indecent to broadcast. Will our lives ever be the same?

Ann Coulter has an interesting column this week detailing how the AFL-CIO continues to support candidates that do not support their stated positions.

Larry Kudlow talks about how the Democrats are fear-mongering over the economy (imagine that.) Turns out outsourcing is not such a bad thing and things are turning around.

Thomas Sowell shows that persistent parents with backbone can get left-leaning programs thrown out of their schools.

Is John Kerry pro-choice or pro-life? Maybe both, but William F. Buckley attempts to unravel the issue. It really is true when people say Kerry could debate himself.

A column making the rounds on the internet written by a former green beret dares to criticize Kerry's service in Vietnam. Good stuff.

9 Iraqi scientists have been murdered in the last 4 months. The U.S. believes it could be an effort to conceal Iraq's nuclear program. If there are no weapons of mass destruction, then why are people being killed over it?

Hillary Clinton is questioning the future of our all-volunteer army. Hitlary wants a debate on the size and composition of the military. A better idea would be keeping her as far away from the armed forces as possible.

Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa says John Kerry told him he would "drill like never before" for oil in the United States. Environmentalists are upset...this is what Kerry gets for trying to be all things to all people.

This column by James B. Goodby takes a look at our choices in negotiating with North Korea. He left out turning the place into a parking lot, but a good read nonetheless.

Protectionism is bad politics and bad policy. This column explains in detail the reasons why.
