MONDAY, January 19, 2004YES -- THE FIRST TEAM IS IN TODAY It's a holiday! MLK Day! Don't dispair, however. The Boortz Team is at work and ready to get you through a morning without work! Call a friend .. tell them to listen! Then get ready for that "what the hell were you thinking" call in about three hours. IOWA CAUCUS DOWN TO THE
WIRE: ANYBODY'S GAME The Iowa caucuses are today,
and no matter what you hear,
it's wide open. All Dean, Gephardt,
Kerry and Edwards are doing is
competing to see who gets to take on Clinton
stooge Weasley Clark in New
Hampshire. The polls are squeaky tight with
no clear front-runner. This is going to get good. Once the Iowa caucuses are over, the liberals will race to New Hampshire and start clawing each other's eyeballs out. After that, it's a sudden death playoff until the money runs out. Of course, standing on the
sidelines gleefully watching all
of this is Hitlary. She can't wait for Weasley to
knock off the others and
then tank in the general election, thus clearing
the way for her 2008 run.
And if Clark doesn't tank on his own? Well,
the Clintons have all of the
information they need to get rid of Clark.
Remember, Clinton was the Commander
in Chief when Clark was fired from his European
Command. Sooner or later
we're going to learn what those "character
and integrity" problems
are. IT'S THE BLATANT DISHONESTY THAT IS SO BOTHERSOME At the end of last week Bush pulled a card out of the Clinton deck. He made a recess appointment of Federal Court Judge Charles Pickering to a seat on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. This appointment is valid until the next Congress takes office, which will be in January of 2005. Democrats are screaming bloody murder over this appointment. Before you join in the condemnation you ought to remember the case of Bill Lan Lee. Bill Clinton nominated Bill Lan Lee to be the head civil rights attorney in the Justice Department. The Republicans opposed Lee's nomination because he was a forceful proponent of racial quotas and preferences. Unlike the case with Charles Pickering, there were not enough votes in the U.S. Senate to confirm Lee. Clinton waits until the Congress is in recess, and makes a recess appointment of Lee to the Justice Department position. That appointment, like Pickering's, was supposed to end with the start of the next congress. It didn't. The law meant nothing to Clinton (no surprise there) and he refused to submit Lee's name for confirmation when the next Congress took office. The gutless Republicans refused to call Clinton's hand, and Lee continued to serve. So, the rules are: Recess appointments by a Democrat are good; recess appointments by a Republican are bad. Now .. about Pickering. In a statement last week John Kerry called Pickering "a forceful advocate for a cross burner." Is that the case, or is Kerry playing a big race card here? Here's your reader's digest version of the story. Three men get snockered and decide to burn a cross in the yard of a racially mixed couple in Mississippi. Here's your cast of characters:
The actual cross-burning was the work of Thomas and the 17-year-old juvenile. Swan sat in the truck and did not participate. Thomas and the 17-year-old accepted a plea bargain and pled guilty. They were sentenced to probation. Swan claimed that he was drunk and was not didn't really know what was happening. He wanted a trial. He was found guilty at the trial. Federal sentencing guidelines said that Swan should get seven and one-half years in federal prison. So ... here is Pickering's crime. The ringleader gets probation. The other person who helped to erect the cross, douse it with gasoline and set it on fire ... probation. The man who sat in the truck, seven and one-half years. Pickering merely talked to the Justice Department about bypassing the sentencing guidelines to get the truck driver a lesser sentence. This is what Charles Schumer calls "glaring racial insensitivity". This is what John Kerry describes as being a "forceful advocate for cross burners." By the way, do you know that immediately after Mississippi schools were desegregated Charles Pickering took his kids out of a majority white school and made a point of sending them to a majority black newly integrated school? How's that for a display of Pickering's " glaring racial insensitivity." It's election time. Beware of the demagogues. THE KISS OF DEATH: McGOVERN ENDORSES WEASLEY Speaking of Weasley, he picked up an all-important endorsement that could push him over the top. 1972 Democratic loser George McGovern endorsed Clark yesterday calling him a "true progressive" and a "Democrat's Democrat." Of course, it should be pointed out that Weasley voted for Richard Nixon, but why let facts get in the way of good politics. What's the real point here? How is Weasley chumming up to the biggest political failure in modern times supposed to help him? Maybe along with the Madonna and Michael Moore endorsements, he thinks this will push him over the top. Or perhaps Weasley is looking for support from Massachusetts and Washington DC, the only areas McGovern carried in 1972. And when will we learn why Bill Clinton fired General Clark? Answer: When Bill Clinton wants us to, that's when. JIMMY CARTER GAVE AN INCH, DEAN TOOK MILE Oh boy...here's a good one. Jimmy Carter now says he did not invite Howard Dean to Plains, GA for their little get-together, but rather Dean invited himself. Talk about looking like an idiot. When asked in an interview why
he would leave Iowa so close
to the caucuses, Dean said he could not turn down
an invitation with from a
former president he admires. But when someone
thanked Carter for inviting Dean,
he explained: "He called me on the phone and
said he'd like to worship
with me. I did not invite him." So let's see...not only did Dean get no endorsement (the former president is staying neutral) but now he looks like he was imposing. Nice going. Before this is over, the Dean campaign's contributors may be asking for a refund. There's still hope, though.
Apparently Democratic presidential
losers are a hot commodity. Maybe Dean could try
for a Dukakis endorsement. NOW I'M A NAZI My listeners and Nuze readers are keeping me up to speed on the efforts of a small and thus-far ineffectual group of libertarians who are trying to get me booted from the speaker's list at the Libertarian National Convention in May. One of the principal organizers of the effort is Carol Moore. Here is a recent post from Ms. Moore as to why she started the petition drive to "Boot Boortz!" font> "I sponsored the petition
that he should debate so that
a real libertarian could kick the nazi's
ass. I'll give him something
for the FBI to spy on at the convention -- lots
of talke about seceding from
this F****D UP UNION that you statists love so
much." No word yet as to whether or not Ms. Moore kisses her mother with that mouth. READING ASSIGNMENTS font> Number one read for the day. John Fund says that Big Labor and Big Government are increasingly one and the same. It was about two weeks ago that I predicted that Howard Dean would not be the Democratic presidential candidate. If I were a betting man (I'm not) I would throw my money behind John Kerry. Now the Concord (New Hampshire) Monitor has endorsed Kerry. Dean must be spitting nails. Congressional Republicans are warning Bush about his spending habits and the deficit. Well .. isn't that nice. We're 10 months away from an eleciton and now they're warning him? And what about that pork-filled spending bill the Republicans in the House and the Senate just passed? Victor Davis Hanson, one of the best writers out there, tells us why Bush's Hispandering immigration plan isn't something to celebrate. Keep up to speed with the efforts to have Boortz booted from the Speaker's list at the 2004 Libertarian National Convention. I have just recently learned of this website. FactCheck.org is supposed to take statements from candidates and research them to see if they're true. Read it along with me and we'll see if it's worth bookmarking. Here's one page from the site where they investigate MoveOn.org's claim that Bush is abusing oldsters with his Medicare prescription drug benefit. Do you want a clearer understanding of how your money gets spent in Washington? Read this column about Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska. He's the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He's also a millionaire. Do you think he worked for that money? p> There's a "Vent" in today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution which reads: "If Carol Moseley Braun is dropping out of the presidential race, count me out, too." So, what is it about Braun that this venter likes so much? Could it be Braun's chumming up to a brutal Nigerian dictator right after he voided the results of a democratic election? Read this and then wonder why Braun was in this race in the first place. More idiocy from the wonderful world of government-run education. I wonder if Mayor Adrian Wright of Pine Law, Missouri has given Curtis Smith his $1000 bill back. Al Franken vs. Rush Limbaugh? Suzanne Fields says it is a contest between the witless and the wit. Al Franken is going into this battle unarmed. Robert Novak weighs in on Howard Dean's decline. Poor Deanie babies. I've read that Weasley Clark makes better pancakes anyway. What's this? A real race? This column explains why we now have a four-way race in Iowa. If Dean implodes, here is why Democrats shouldn't want Weasley Clark either. I guess there's always Al Sharpton. Dan Rather says political convention coverage font> on TV may eventually amount to nothing. No big deal. These conventions are nothing but three-day infomercialsnow anyway. And if there's one thing I wouldn't miss during the political conventions, it would be Dan Rather. p> The UPN television network is making a reality show about the Amish. No word on where they're going to plug in their TV cameras. Here's an update on our new national hero, American Airlines pilot Dale Hersh. Hopefully he gets promoted and gets a big raise when he gets back. We'll be watching. According to the Washington Times, $2 billion in cash along with other riches were removed from Iraq to Syria's central bank. Time to warm up the bombers and go make a withdrawal. Here's
more out of control political correctness:
people are upset because a 50
year old restaurant outside of Philadelphia is
called "Chink's Steaks." Talk
about a bunch of whining pantywaists with
nothing better to do. Here's another example of a government school expelling a student because he wrote a frightening story for an English creative writing course. Stephen King would never have made it through high school in this day and age.
