NEAL'S BACK

WHAT I DID ON MY SUMMER VACATION

One of the most difficult things for someone earning their living in broadcasting to do is to take a two-week vacation. Bluntly speaking, if you take two weeks off that's two weeks that your listeners have to find something more interesting or timely to listen to. So .... I did it anyway. Donna wanted to get away from it all ... and that's just what we did.

For this trip we took our land-yacht ... a Blue Bird Wanderlodge ... and we headed to the Rockies. Rod and Jan Brown from John Bleakley Motor homes drove the Bird to Minneapolis two weeks ago. After a tremendous night with my WOKV listeners in Jacksonville on July 2nd, we flew to MSP to pick up the Bird and head west. This past Saturday we left the Bird in Denver for Rod and Jan to drive home, and flew back to Atlanta. During those two weeks we hit Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, The Devil's Tower in Wyoming, Glacier National Park in Montana, Waterton Lakes in Alberta, Yellowstone, Grand Teton and finally the Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park, Colorado.

We'll put some more pictures in the photo gallery this week. Thanks for tolerating my absence. Give me a day or two reinvigorate my insensitivity and we'll be rolling like I was never gone.

TWO FANTASTIC PEOPLE WE MET ON THE ROAD

On the way from Yellowstone National Park to Estes Park we spent an overnight in a RV park in Rawlins, Wyoming. Camped across from our motor home were Ken Keene and Renea Young from the Newcastle/Pittsburgh area of Pennsylvania. Ken teaches at the Shenango Elementary School and Renea at the Lawrence County Area Vo-Tech school. During the summer they had decided to hop on their bicycles and pedal from coast-to-coast, from Virginia to Oregon. Ken and Renea have our studio number and have promised to call in to let us know how the trip is progressing.

BUSH'S IRAQI URANIUM CLAIM VINDICATED

Another blow to the Bush haters and the "Bush lied" crowd. No less than the left-leaning Associated Press is reporting that President Bush's claim that Iraq sought uranium in Africa wasn't completely false. Stop the presses! How can this be true? I thought Bush lied!

Two recent reports say Bush may have not been totally off-base. Now, never mind that Bush didn't lie at all whatsoever.....he was simply stating what British intelligence had reported. His statement was true by any logical standard. But now a British report now says that the claims about Iraq were "well-founded." In addition, the otherwise worthless Senate Intelligence Committee (an oxymoron if there ever was one) report says Iraq sought uranium in Africa. So where's Joe Wilson now...and who's that anyway?

You remember him...he's the liar hired by the CIA (after being recommended by his wife) to go to Niger to investigate the uranium claim. He wrote an op-ed piece in the New York Times saying that transaction was unlikely and the administration was manipulating intelligence. Few people seem to know that in a later book the very same Joe Wilson said that not only did Iraq make overtures to Niger about purchasing uranium, but that the very person making those overtures was the famous Baghdad Bob! Predictably, the media played up the Wilson comments that contradicted British intelligence and President Bush, and ignored his writings that supported the British claim.

How about Kerry and Edwards...are they going to stop saying we were misled? Will Michael Moore make a retraction movie? Al Gore? Somehow, I don't think so. After all, facts have never been a liberal specialty.

The more time that passes...the more the action in Iraq is vindicated. The appeasers are going to have to find a new angle.

THE PUPPY CAN'T LET IT GO

Presumptive Democratic vice-presidential nominee and trial lawyers' spokesman John Edwards was campaigning in Florida Sunday. Now, you would think he would be running for office here in 2004, but that's not what he was talking about yesterday. No...you see, like a lot of other Democrats, he's still fighting the 2000 election battle, and cannot let it go.

As he pandered for votes from the pulpit of a black church, Edwards pledged that the Democratic party will work to head off ballot irregularities that they say gave the election to Bush. "We will get voters to the polls. We're going to make sure that all those voters go to the polls and cast their votes, that their votes are counted this time." The implication here is that they weren't counted last time. They were. The people intelligent enough to follow simple instructions on how to vote did have their votes counted ... and (thank God) Gore lost.

For the umpteenth time, George W. Bush won Florida fair and square, by 537 votes. He has won every single recount. Media organizations have recounted the ballots numerous times, and every time, the state went for Bush. All the votes were counted. Every ballot that was properly cast was counted. There was no disenfranchisement, despite the fantasies of the left.

You've heard me say it before; about one-half of the people in this country are simply too stupid to be living in a free society. These people are supported by the other fifty percent. The fact is that if you're too dumb to follow the proper instructions when casting a ballot ... if you can't operate a simple punch-card voting machine ... then the country is better off if your vote isn't counted. Many states go to great lengths to get people out from behind the wheels of automobiles when their abilities deteriorate to the point that they become dangerous to others on the road. A voter who can't read and follow simple instructions is dangerous to our republic. Let's get them out of the voting booths. And something else...how's come Democrats have to constantly get out the vote? Why do they have to pick up people and take them to the polls? Why is it that the rest of us can get there just fine?

In the end, there's nothing new here. They are still bitter about the 2000 election. They can't let it go. They won't admit that Bush won the election fair and square, after the Supreme Court stopped their little scheme in its tracks.

This is all sour grapes, and it's pretty pathetic that they're still talking about it. Well, what else do they have?

ARNOLD STOMPS THE GIRLIE MEN

This is one for the ages. California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, delivering a speech at a shopping mall in Ontario, California on Saturday, lashed out at the Democrats who are delaying the state budget by catering to special interests. Here's what he said: "If they don't have the guts to come up in front of you and say 'I don't want to represent you, I want to represent those special interests , the unions, the trial lawyers...if they don't have the guts, I call them girlie men." Girlie men! Can there be anything worse?

Immediately, liberals in California were up in arms, accusing the Governator of being blatantly homophobic, and insulting to women and gays. Poor babies...they're offended. Too bad. Schwarzenegger's spokesman said that if people are complaining about this, they're making his point.

Somehow I don't think Arnold gives a rip. Come to think abut it ... neither do I.

CENSORSHIP WHERE THERE IS NONE

Singer Elton John is attacking the 'censorship' in America. In an interview, he claims that "There's an atmosphere of fear in America right now that is deadly." He also said performers could be "frightened by the current administration's bullying tactics." What is he talking about?

Who knows....I don't know of a single case of the Bush administration bullying a performer for any statements they've made. Actually, it's the general public. And this gets to the bottom of just what your definition of censorship is. For instance, you had the Ditzy Twits. They made some anti-Bush remarks overseas. People found out about it and didn't like it. Radio stations stopped playing their music. They weren't censored by government, they just fell victim to their own stupidity when the public demanded that radio stations quit playing their music. The Bush administration had nothing to do with it.

Then you have the case of Whoopi Goldberg. At a Democratic rally, she referred to President Bush by making sexual references out of his last name (and she wasn't talking about a shrub.) Slim-Fast, with whom she was employed as a spokeswoman, has a business to run and products to sell. They can't afford to offend their customers. So Whoopi got 86ed....and it had nothing to do with the Bush administration.

Just because somebody doesn't like what you have to say doesn't mean you are being "censored." The left is just finding out that people aren't interested in what they have to say and freedom of speech doesn't include the freedom to be heard.

So c'mon Elton....stop talking about politics and play me some Crocodile Rock.

FROM SUNDAY'S AJC VENT

This was in the paper Sunday, and it's a good one:

"Bridge jumpers threaten the lives of innocent people below. If they really want to die, they should just drive in Atlanta traffic, not threaten to jump into it."

You got that right.

NOW .... FOR SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS

To be honest, I paid little attention to the news over the past two weeks. I was afraid that history would repeat itself and something would happen that would require my immediate return to the Boortz Show studios. So ... I operated on the assumption that what I didn't know wouldn't end my vacation before the end of the two weeks. Good plan ... but that Blue Bird motor home has a fancy tracking satellite system that means you can watch Fox and CNN even while you're cruising down the highway.

President Bush didn't speak to the NAACP. Big deal. I'm so sure that there were hundreds of delegates to the NAACP convention who hadn't made up their minds how they were going to vote this year. Isn't it about time politicians stopped their pandering to the NAACP? Julian Bond makes a reference to the "Taliban Wing of the Republican Party" and Bush is then supposed to honor that organization with a visit? These people are permanently housed on the Democratic plantation, and they have no plans to seek their freedom. They think they can just crook their finger and the President comes running. Didn't work this time.

People seem to think that the role of government is to make them better off. Sorry to break this to you, but politicians are not supposed to make you better off. That's up to you. If you want to be better off you do something about it. Politicians are supposed to keep the government out of your hair while you're trying to better yourself ... and to keep you out of other people's hair at the same time. A frightening truism: Freedom cannot survive the number of Americans who think that the government is there to take care of them.

There was the Poodle, John Kerry in New Mexico, promising immigration overhaul. How transparent. What he's really talking about is trading American jobs for Hispanic votes. Don't forget that there's a serious move afoot to grant aliens .. including illegal aliens .. the right to vote in local elections. The purpose here is to build the Democratic party in a local basis. The movement to bring the vote to illegal aliens is particularly strong in California. Big surprise there.

John Kerry wants to expand "hate crime" laws. Hopefully, you aren't surprised. To punish someone for a "hate crime" is to punish them for the thought processes they had at the time they committed the crime. You can't escape the fact that what we're really talking about here is "thought crime" laws. You're punishing the thought process, not the action. So ... what big-government politician worth his government pension wouldn't like to be able to punish thought?

Would someone please tell me how in the world the most liberal U.S. Senator can travel to the Mid-West and tell those Americans there that he shares their conservative values?

You do realize, don't you, that the Democratic presidential ticket consists of the man rated to be the most liberal U.S. Senator, and his running mate is in the top 5. Are Americans really ready to take these two leftists and put them in the number one and two positions. Sadly, Americans are ready to do just that. This election is going to turn on turnout. Democrats are energized by their hatred of Bush. November 3, 2004 isn't going to be a fun day.

OK ... So Ron Reagan is speaking at the Democratic Convention. BFD. Zell Miller is speaking at the Republican Convention. So, the Democrats get a washed-up ballet dancer and the Republicans get a sitting Democratic Senator and a former Governor. Sounds about right to me.

The British Anglican Arch-Bishop expressed concern two weeks ago that the moral outrage over Abu Ghraib is waning. This jerk isn't at all concerned that the moral outrage over 9/11 might be waning. He knows that Abu Ghraib makes American look bad ... and he likes that. Remember, this man has shown his anti-American colors many times.

John Kerry and his leftist Democrat fellow travelers believ that the government owns a part of your life .. and that it is up to the government, not you, to decide just how much of your life it will claim. Politicians are quite fond of taking whatever you have produced with this portion of your life and spending it on votes. Most people don't seem to care.

Here's a story of runaway government spending. Now our government has decided that obesity is a disease and some anti-obesity treatments will be covered under Medicare and Medicaid. Obesity is, for the most part, a self-induced condition. Where in our Constitution does it say that some individual can make the choice to overeat .. then call on the government to seize money from some other individual to pay for their treatment.

I just saw another one of those Moveon.org ads on television. A couple sitting at a breakfast table talking about Bush. The woman says that she just wishes he would tell the truth about Iraq. "No weapons of mass destruction." Isn't it amazing that the Bush-haters continue to ignore the fact that these weapons have ... I repeat HAVE been found! Enough sarin and mustard gas, kin fact, to kill well over 200,000 people. But ... Moveon.org knows their target audience. They know that the people they are likely to influence with their ads aren't the people who will actually take the time to read and understand what is really going on in Iraq .. with our economy .. and with health care. Now it's time to go back to my column of a month or so ago when I said the sad truth is that about 50% of the people in this country are simply too ignorant to be allowed to vote. It's alarming how often those words are vindicated.

Driving out west these past two weeks I noticed literally thousands of motorcycles. The only time people would put on their helmets was during rainstorms. Hey .. I'm with them. They shouldn't have to wear helmets if they don't want to. By the same token ... if they suffer serious injuries because of their not wearing helmets then the taxpayers shouldn't have to shoulder the responsibility for their medical care. Treat them, heal them, and then hold them responsible for the cost ... even if it means getting a judgment against them and seizing every asset they have to reimburse the taxpayers. They made the decision not to wear a helmet ... they suffer the consequences.

The finest businessman I met on my trip? Bob. Bob from Bob's towing in Estes Park, Colorado. No ... I didn't have to have the motor home towed ... just the car I was towing behind the motor home. Long story. But give Bob a call and tell him that he's great.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

The mainstream media continues to highlight the negative news from Iraq.  After all, you don't want to print anything that might look good for Bush, do you?  So .... here's a roundup of the past two weeks' good news from Iraq.

Which newspaper's online version is responsible for this? Find out.

And now, courtesy of the Cato Institute, the affirmative action myth.  Be sure to check this one out.

Looks like The Poodle has gone off his Botox injections.  Will America survive?

sKerry says he would launch a pre-emptive strike if he had adequate intelligence of the threat.  What's adequate?  The United States was attacked by Al-Qaeda numerous times and Bill Clinton did nothing.  So really, he's saying only he knows what's pre-emptive, not George Bush or anyone else. Typical liberal.

Rapper Jadakiss is backpedaling on his song that blames George W. Bush for knocking down the World Trade Center towers.  He calls it a 'metaphor.'  Uh-huh.  You do know that the neocons crashed those planes into the twin towers by remote control so they could start a war in the Middle East, don't you?

Israel is promising to destroy Iran's nuclear reactors if the Russians provide the Ayatollah with rods for enriching uranium.  Good...it's about time somebody keeps Iran in check.

The CIA says the 9/11 hijackers passed through Iran.  Sounds like a link to me...time to blow up another part of the axis of evil.

Bill Clinton was warned in 1998 that Osama Bin Laden wanted to hijack airplanes.  Will the media rake him over the coals like they did George Bush?  Of course not, it won't help Kerry get elected.

Newsweek's assistant managing editor is admitting that the media is biased, and wants The Poodle to win.  Of course, this is nothing new.  Anybody with a brain has known this for a long time.

So now that Joseph Wilson has been discredited, will the parties that were suckered come forward?  Mark Steyn talks about how a serial liar suckered Dems and the media.

The new cry of the left is "Bush lied," but Michael Barone says these people can't be taken seriously.  Too bad the mainstream media takes them seriously.

Ever wonder why health care costs so much?  It's because of ambulance-chasing lawyers like John Edwards, who drive up the cost of medical malpractice insurance, says Suzanne Fields.

Things aren't going so well for Republicans in the Senate, at least according to Robert Novak.

And now, as only Professor Mike Adams can say it: how to collect guns and irritate PETA.

Here's a tribute to George Bush and John Kerry in song, This Land Is Your Land...again. So you people can stop sending it to us already.   Includes some language that may not be safe for work, but is an absolute riot nonetheless. Requires Flash.
