Friday, June 11, 2004WE HAVE A FEW THINGS WORKING AGAINST US TODAY First ... Almost my entire family is in town and we went out to dinner last
night ... until about three hours past my bedtime. Family is more
important than program notes. Second; when I got up (finally) this morning
I couldn't get on the Internet at home. So ... I had to wait until I got
to the studios to play with these notes. Result? Meager notes.
I guess you'll just have to listen to see what I have on my mind today. SOME INTERESTING
TIMES COMING UP! Boortzapalooza
(no, I didn't come up with the name) is tomorrow (Saturday) night at the
Fox Theatre in Atlanta. Trust me when I say that I have no idea what's
going to happen on that stage. I just know I'll be there .. along
with quite a few other people who are actually far more interesting than
I am, including Senator Zell Miller (who used to be my boss), Sean
Hannity (who has never been my boss), Clark Howard, Oliver North and
others. You
can still get tickets online. Next Saturday, June 19th, I'll be visiting Fayetteville, North
Carolina to meet with some of our listeners on WFNC and to visit our
troops at Ft. Bragg. Details
are available here. On July 1st I'll be in Jacksonville, Florida for an appearance at the
Omni Hotel. Sorry, that one's sold out, but you can tune in to our
Jacksonville affiliate 690 WOKV to win
some tickets that were cleverly held back! After our visit to Jacksonville I'm heading off to the West for a
two-week vacation in my John
Bleakley RV Wanderlodge. Believe me, two-week vacations
are very problematic for radio personalities. You see ... we're so
impressed with ourselves, but the truth is that we're very much like
huge ships. It doesn't matter how large the ship is, sixty seconds
after you lift it out of the water you can scarcely tell it was ever
there. I hope you'll remember who I am when I return. August 13th takes us to Orlando, Florida for another 580 WDBO
"Meeting of the Mouths." That will be another Clark
Howard, Sean Hannity, Neal Boortz TCF. No information on tickets
yet, just keep listening to 580 WDBO and checking in with WDBO
on the Internet. We just put this one on the schedule! On October 21st I'll
travel to Stamford / Norwalk CT to visit our listeners at 1400
WSTC and 1350 WNLK. Details on the visit will be coming soon! Cleverly inserted in the middle of these appearances will be our live
broadcasts from both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions
in New York City and in Boston. No rest for the weary. |
PUTIN CALLS OUT THE DEMOCRATS
Nothing like putting the liberals in their place...and this time it comes
courtesy of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Speaking during a joint
press conference yesterday at the G8 summit in Sea Island, Georgia, Putin was
asked about news articles questioning Russia's place at the G8.
He replied that such articles were part of an internal U.S. political
debate. Then, he followed up with this little gem: "I am deeply
convinced that President Bush's political adversaries have no moral right to
attack him over Iraq because they did exactly the same. It suffices to
recall Yugoslavia. Now look at them. They don't like what President
Bush is doing in Iraq."
This is almost too good to be true, but Putin is 100% right. Liberals like
to bash President Bush for allegedly "going it alone" in Iraq (even
thought there were other countries involved, and the U.N. did have resolutions
on the books threatening Iraq with the use of force.) They love to talk
about Bush's unprecedented, unilateral action, but at the same time, Democrats
and their buddies in the media conveniently forget about President Clinton
bombing the Serbs 5 years ago. There was no U.N. approval there at all,
but as usual, Clinton gets a pass.
Russia was opposed to American military action in both Yugoslavia and
Iraq. But now, Putin is the one calling out the left for playing both
sides of the fence.
Priceless.
FRENCH THOUGHT POLICE IN ACTION
Here's
a tidy little reminder of what life would be like if the politically correct
thought police get their way in this country. French actress Brigitte
Bardot was convicted yesterday of inciting racial hatred and ordered to pay
$6,000 -- her fourth fine since 1997.
And what was her crime?
She wrote a book. That's right...she was punished in a French court of law
for something she wrote in her book. So what did she say? According to the
court, her book "presents Muslims as barbaric and cruel invaders,
responsible for terrorist acts and eager to dominate the French to the extent of
wanting to exterminate them." Obviously, truth isn't a defense when
it comes to free speech in France. It sounds like the old sex kitten
adequately described Al-Qaeda.
This is what life is going to be like in this country when the leftist,
hyper-compassionate elites get their way. They want to criminalize thought and
criminalize what they classify as "hate speech." It's the same
thing with hate crimes...punishing someone for what they were thinking at the
time they committed a crime is a slippery slope.
And now you see where that leads.
FREE SPEECH? In considering the situation in France, you should know that there are not
many countries out there where freedom of speech is guaranteed. Canada,
for instance, has no guaranteed freedom of speech in its constitution. It can be
said that free speech is pretty much unique to Great Britain and the United
States. Make no mistake .. there are people in this country, both on the
left and on the right, who want us to join Canada in this regard. A PRIVILEGE? In Georgia, as in many other states, you pay a tax to the state when you sell
real property. In Georgia it's called the Real Estate Transfer Tax.
A listener noticed an interesting bit on the Georgia
Department of Revenue website. There we are told that the real estate
transfer tax is not really a property tax. So, what is it? Well, it
is a "tax on the privilege of selling property." Selling property is a privilege? A privilege granted by who? By
the government, that's who! Golly, here all this time I thought that a
basic part of property rights was the right to dispose of that property as we
see fit! After all, you don't really own property if you aren't allowed to
dispose of it. Is that the way things are in Georgia? Nooooo! In
Georgia selling your property is a privilege! A privilege granted to you
by government! And since the privilege is granted by government, it can be
taken away by government! I wonder how many other rights we take for granted are actually nothing more
than privileges granted by government. A FITTING REAGAN TRIBUTE Ronald Reagan's favorite patriotic song was "God Bless
America." A fitting tribute to Ronald Reagan would be to get rid of
that hideous takeoff on an old English drinking song we now use as a national
anthem, and replace it with "God Bless America." As for those
who would object to the word "God" in that song. Two
words. Screw them. INTERNATIONAL "ANTI-POVERTY TAX?" I haven't been able to find much on this yet, but evidently French Grande
Fromage Jacques Chirac has proposed some sort of an international anti-poverty
tax. What this really means is that Chirac wants those people with the
highest standards of living (that would be Americans) to fork over some of their
hard-earned cash to lift the standard of living for the world's poor. Know what? I've just about had the poor up to here. There are
many reasons for poverty, but for the most part poverty can be described as
either a behavioral disorder or a mental disease. So .. if we're going to be saddled with some sort of tax -- collected and
administered by the United Nations no doubt -- to take care of the world's great
unwashed, we ought to get some power for our bucks. More specifically: - The power to remove dictators and despots who take actions which deny
their people property rights and economic liberty.
- The power to impose capitalistic economies throughout the world.
There is no better anti-poverty program than capitalism.
- The power to require participation in educational and jobs training
programs for all people claiming assistance.
- The power to force people to move from where there are no jobs to locales
where jobs can be found.
- The power to compel the use of birth control in populations where people
breed like hamsters with no ability to care for the children they produce.
And I'm just getting started here. More to come.
MEDIA REJOICES AS POLL SHOWS BUSH BEHIND
You really do have to wonder about the media sometimes. It must be awfully
difficult to sit there and constantly dream up new ways to bash the
President. Somehow, they always seem to get it done. Their latest
obsession is a single poll in a single newspaper that shows The Poodle ahead of
President Bush by six or seven points. BFD. But judging by their
reporting, you would think the election was five minutes away instead of over
five months.
"Kerry surges ahead of Bush" scream the headlines...but you have to
ask yourself...what if the situation were reversed? Would they report that
"Bush surges ahead of Kerry?" Of course not...if Bush led Kerry
by six or seven points, it would be reported as a "thin margin," and
the president would be "barely leading" in the polls. They would tell
us that it was within the margin of error, and it was inconclusive. Let's try to keep this in perspective, Bush's father was 17 points behind
Michael Dukakis in the summer of 1988, and he was elected with relative
ease. Who they polled...what questions were asked...how many were
polled...these all figure into the polling result.
Enough with the polls. nobody cares. Why, after all, do newspapers take
polls? To create news and to give them something to cover, that's why.
Isn't there something just a little bit curious about newspapers going out there
to create news to cover? THIS LISTENER HAD IT RIGHT NO TWO COUNTS. This from yesterday's email: "The greatest president of
the 20th Century, Ronald Reagan. The CLASS of The Neal Boortz Show, Belinda.

Earlier this week liberal talk radio host Mike Malloy was crediting the
Solidarity movement with the defeat of communism. Well, here's Lech
Walesa handing that credit to Ronald Reagan. Reagan started a war that is still being waged today ... the
war against liberalism Well isn't this just nice. The
federal government is spending $13 million on a program to fly illegal
aliens back home. Why not just escort them to the border?
You know all these liberals and Democrats that are saying nice things about
Ronald Reagan? Seems like they were singing a different tune just a few
years ago, writes
Max Boot.
Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton hardly have much in common politically, but
Dick Morris says Clinton was Reagan's ratifier...in other words, he stole
his ideas.
How does the media cover the death of a man they hated for eight years, but the
American public loved? They go on and on about his optimism...but
as Charles Krauthammer says, there was more to Reagan than that.
It's important to remember that things weren't always easy for President Ronald
Reagan, but President Bush should take note. More

Person after person has been writing about their encounters and experiences with
President Reagan...here
are some from Herbert London.
