Boortzapalooza News Flash ![]() Did Clark Howard really reach in his pocket to pay me $100 to kiss this Hillary Clinton facsimile? And did I do it? Tune in Monday morning for all the gory details and incriminating evidence. And yes .. I kept Clark's one hundred bucks. Here are some crappy pictures. They'll just have to hold you until we get the pictures from the professional photographer. SATURDAY NIGHT Really, I don't know where to start with this. Last Saturday night my flagship radio station, Atlanta's News Talk 750 WSB, threw a little party for me at the Fox Theatre. Senator Zell Miller, Evander Holyfield, Clark Howard, Scott Slade, Sean Hannity, Oliver North, Carol Costello from CNN, Monica Kauffman from WSB-TV, and Jamie Dupree joined me on stage, as did nearly my entire family! Others like Dr. Robert Schuller, Rush Limbaugh, Jeff Foxworthy, Bobby Cox, Chipper Jones, Curtis Strange, and Ludacris sent their greetings by video. I also received written congratulations from President George Bush, Governor Sonny Perdue, Lt. Governor Mark Taylor, and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin. (I know I've forgotten someone here, but it's early and I'm not fully awake yet). And the entire evening was hosted by WSB TV's Chuck Dowdle and Atlanta Hawks play-by-play announcer Steve Holman. So ... quite a few people have asked me what the best part of the evening was. In spite of all of the people I've named who joined me on stage and who appeared by video, the absolute highlight was, without a doubt, the audience. When the house lights finally were turned on I could finally see beyond the fifth row. To my amazement the place was packed! Balcony too! Thank you so much, my friends. I am so honored that so many of you would take time from your weekend to spend two hours with us at the Fox. Some of you even drove in from neighboring states for the event? Again, thanks. It's enough to actually make me be nice on the air ... for a while. DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTS Moving right along now to an intemperate thought. Last week we honored a president, a Republican, who earned and deserves the credit for ending the Cold War. Ronald Reagan also reinvigorated capitalism in America, creating a growing economy that still affects us all. So ... this question. Since JFK, what have Democrats had to offer that could match the performance of Ronald Reagan? Carter? Clinton? Go ahead, tell me what they accomplished. And don't give me this nonsense about the economy under Clinton. The economy was improving when Clinton took office, and was on its way down when he left. I'm waiting. ARE WE READY TO LET IRAN INTO THE CLUB The world is now being notified that it is just going to have to accept the Mad Islamic Mullahs of Iran into the nuclear club, the club comprised of nations with atomic weapons. There is no longer any doubt that Iran is building these weapons, and the world just seems to yawn and ignore the situation. This is a country of Islamic radicals. It could easily be said that Iran with nuclear weapons means terrorists with nuclear weapons. The preemption concept won the day on Iraq. There is no longer any danger from Saddam or from his continued development chemical, biological or nuclear weapons. But in the case of Iran it looks like the appeasement crowd may well carry the day. The west may be content to sit back and watch Iran develop nuclear weapons. Come on, folks. Can you tell me you feel comfortable with that? More to come on this one .. but it's certainly something to think about. INCREASED VIOLENCE IN IRAQ We're about two weeks away now from the return of sovereignty to Iraq. Today there was a car bombing in central Baghdad that had the force of 1000 pounds of dynamite. Thirteen people were killed. Terrorists and those loyal to Saddam Hussein are doing all that they can to make sure that the transfer of power to the new government goes badly. Reports are that the attacks are "increasingly sophisticated." Why would that be? That would be because foreign countries are involved. Syria and Iran certainly, and you might add Saudi Arabia and Jordan to the list. These people do not want any government that might contribute to the spread of freedom and democratic processes in the Middle East. The purpose is to discredit the coalition by demonstrating that coalition forces cannot protect the population of Iraq. Only by accepting a return of the Baathists, or by turning over power to a group of Islamic mullahs, can the people become safe. The truly sad thing here is that Democrats and their leftist fellow travelers are going to use this entirely predictable increase of violence in Iraq as evidence that Bush's policies are wrong, that Saddam should have been left in power. The Democrats are perfectly willing to deny freedom and economic liberty to the people of Iraq, and to make the world a more dangerous place in the process, if it will mean gaining power inside the beltway. TIME TO UNDO THE DAMAGE What damage? The damage that was done to the leftist cause by the recognition of the accomplishments of Ronald Reagan last week. Watch the editorial pages and the opinion columns. If people are left with positive feelings about Ronald Reagan those feelings could transfer to George Bush. The mainstream media just can't allow this to happen. Democratic victory in November may depend on the destruction of Ronald Reagan's image. There are more than enough writers, reporters, editors, publishers and producers who are willing to volunteer for the job. DEMOCRATS BORED WITH THE POODLE Here's another question you can pose to the Kerry supporters. Careful, though. After you ask this question you had better be prepared to duck.
Of course, the more people find out about sKerry, the more they don't
like. That is if people can figure out where he stands. From voting
for the $87 billion before he voted against it, to being for the war, but
against the way George Bush is waging it, The Poodle can't stake out a clear
position. They don't know where he stands. Are liberals going to be
so energized by John Kerry that they go running to the polls in November
just to vote against President Bush? I doubt it. BACK TO SATURDAY NIGHT There is no way to acknowledge individually all of the people who sent me notes after Saturday night's event, but here are a few excerpts:
NASCAR HAS TO FIGURE THIS ONE OUT I know you're not all NASCAR fans, but a lot of you are. I'm no fanatic, but I do enjoy going every once in a while. Anyway ... yesterday the race at Pocono ended under yellow. Once again the fans were throwing cans and whatnot on the track. It's a race, dammit. End the show racing, not following each other around the track like a bunch of pack mules. READING ASSIGNMENTS John Fund asks "Is America going soft?" When almost 50% of the voters would put someone like John Kerry in office, the answer can't be anything other than "yes." This week we should hear details from the feds about a "registered traveler" program to help people who are willing to take a fee and submit to an extensive background check the ability to get through airport security a bit quicker. Count me in. Here's an interesting proposition from
Harvard Professor Alan Dershowitz: when it comes to torture, the U.S. should
just make a list of what torture is allowed and what torture is not, like Israel
does. | ||
