KERRY IN FLORIDA

The Democrats call Florida the "scene of the 2000 recount crime."   That's great rhetoric that plays well in the mainstream leftist press .. but not so well with anyone with even a modest knowledge of the facts.  Facts, however, don't matter to Democrats.  The economy is growing, they say it's in the tank.  Unemployment is down, Democrats say the jobs picture is a disaster.  Facts mean nothing ... rhetoric is king.

So, there he was ... John Kerry in West Palm Beach Florida pulling one of the oldest Democratic stunts on the books.  He was telling Florida's wizened citizens that George Bush wants to cut their Social Security benefits.  Nothing is quite so effective at getting the wrinkled class into a complete panic than telling them that their Social Security benefits are going to be cut.  Democrats know this, and this is why Democrats have used this very same tactic in every single presidential election since the end of World War II.   Funny thing though ... whenever the Republicans win, Social  Security benefits do not get cut.  Odd how that happens, isn't it?

But, year after year, the tactic continues.  Democrats try to  frighten old people.  Old people vote for Democrats.  An absolutely dependable cycle.

Now  ... just what could happen to mess up this quadrennial Democrat scare game?  One thing.  If the senior citizens knew that the Republicans could NOT reduce their benefits they would be less likely to run frightened to the polls to keep their Democrat protectors in office.  And just what would it take to protect these benefits from being cut by politicians?  Why, if those Social Security accounts were privately owned, that's what!

That, my friends, is why John Kerry was down there in Florida yesterday promising that no matter what, he would never permit Social Security to be privatized.  You see, it's not about preserving the meager retirement benefits that Social Security provides --- if, that is, you live long enough to collect them.  It's about preserving your ability to frighten old folks about losing those benefits ... and the only way you can do that is if Social Security is not privatized.

Here's something else for you to remember.  A few years ago Republicans proposed a bill in Congress that would guarantee Social Security benefits to retirees.  Oh!  What's that?  You say that you thought those benefits were guaranteed anyway?  Not so!  There is no law on the books which guarantees your right to benefits.  They can be take away by the congress at any time.  So ... the Republicans said why not just pass a law saying that those benefits are guaranteed and can not be taken away?  Well ... guess who blocked this legislation.  The Democrats, of course.  The very same politicians who are always warning old folks that Republicans are going to take away their Social Security objected to a federal law that would guarantee them.  You do understand why, don't you?  It's simple.  Because if those benefits were guaranteed, the Democrats could no longer frighten old folks by saying that they were going to be taken away!

KERRY RECORD UNDER SCRUTINY

President Bush had it right yesterday when he said during a speech that "my opponent clearly has strong beliefs - they just don't last very long." Not only do they not last very long, they constantly change. Let's just take a look at a few of Senator Kerry's greatest hits, shall we?

Turns out the Senator likes to write books.  In his out of print 1997 tome "The New War," Kerry called Islamic terrorist Yasser Arafat a "role model" and a "statesman." Just eight days ago in a speech to Jewish leaders, he flip-flopped, saying he agreed with President Bush that Arafat was not a partner for peace - much less a statesman.  That is one thing that is remarkably consistent about John Kerry: his position shifts with the audience.

Here's another example from the man who wants to direct the nation's foreign policy. Speaking to the Arab American Institute in July, he said that Israel's security fence was "provocative" and a barrier to peace. Then a week ago, he told Jewish leaders that the same fence was necessary to the security of Israel. So what is his position? Who knows...surely he doesn't.

And then we have the body armor issue. Kerry has accused the president of not supplying enough body armor to the troops in Iraq.  However, it turns out that in 2002, Kerry voted against supplying the troops with more body armor.

Wow...8 more months to go until election day. Will there be debates between Kerry and himself?

WHAT COMES AROUND GOES AROUND

This is too good to pass up. Remember when Bill Clinton used to go around saying that he was so in touch with the needs of the black community that he was "the first black president?' Well, Kerry proved that he was no Bill Clinton when he stuck his foot in his mouth and broke it off last week. Here's what happened.

In an interview with the American Urban Radio Network, Kerry said "President Clinton was often known as the first black president. I wouldn't be upset if I could earn the right to be the second." Well, considering neither one of those guys were black, you can predict what happened next.

Paula Diane Harris, founder of the Andrew Young National Center for Social Change, a civil rights and legal services advocacy group, had this to say: "John Kerry is not a black man - he is a privileged white man who has no idea what it is to be a poor white in this country, let alone a black man."  She also criticized civil rights leaders who "sit back and ignore these types of comments, a practice that further insults African-Americans." The revenge of political correctness strikes again.

Always nice when the liberals get some of their own medicine.

LAWYERS GEARING UP FOR 2000 FLORIDA SEQUEL

Kerry was also pushing the "Bush stole the election" line in Florida.  Democrats are calling it the "Scene of the 2000 recount crime."  I know facts and the truth don't matter to Democrats .. but the truth is, and the fact is that every single recount of all the votes in Florida showed that Bush won.  The very same national press corps that wanted Gore to win so badly pooled their resources and sent a team to Florida to count all the votes ... hanging chads and all.  And who won?  You got it ... George Bush.

Remember.  All Al Gore had to do to win the presidency was to win his own home state.  He didn't, and we're the better off for it.

Not wanting a repeat of 2000 where the Democrats lost Florida by a few hundred votes, the Kerry campaign is vowing to assemble a legal team in advance of the November election. That's right, they're apparently going to try and contest the election before any ballots are cast by mounting a legal challenge in any "problem precincts."  This should be interesting.

"Not only do we want a record level of turnout to vote, we want to guarantee that every vote is counted," said Kerry to a town hall meeting yesterday in Hollywood, Florida. Of course, every vote was counted. They're talking about spoiled ballots from morons that couldn't fully dislodge their chads not being counted.

Responding to an idiotic question from an empty-headed audience member about what Kerry could do to prevent the election from being stolen again, the Senator said " We're going to pre-check it, we're going to have a legal team in place....we're going to take injunctions where necessary ahead of time.  I don't think we ought to have any vote cast in America that cannot be traced and properly recounted."  What a stupid thing to say. What about people who punch the wrong hole? Are they going to take the ballot to each person and ask them who they meant to vote for, after the fact?

George W. Bush was elected President of the United States in 2000 fair and square.

JUST A REMINDER

Many of you are quite proud of the balances that you have built up in your retirement 401K plans.  Nice going.  You actually deferred gratification and have set aside something for your retirement.

Well, I don't want to bust your bubble, but it might be a good idea if you keep in mind what the Democrats were cooking up back during the early years of the Clinton presidency ... just before the evil Republicans took control of the congress.  Democrats, you see, were upset with the billions upon billions of dollars that were sitting in various pension, retirement and 401K plans.  All that money was just sitting there earning interest for the pension plans and the owners of the 401K plans.  Wow!  Just imagine how many votes could be bought if the politicians could just get their hands on some of that money.  So ... a plan was being hatched to do just that.

The plan?  Simple.  The government would just levy a one-time tax against the outstanding balances of all extant pension and retirement plans, including 401K plans, in the amount of 15%.  That's right ... the government would just waltz on in, take 15% of your 401K, tip its hat and leave.  The justification argument would go something like this:  "These Americans who have been fortunate enough to invest in 401K plans and who are lucky enough to work for companies with retirement and pension plans have benefited from the hard work of those who have not been as lucky.  These people will hardly miss that 15%, but that money will go a long way to provide the basic needs of millions of less fortunate Americans."

Also ... don't forget another favorite Democratic idea.  ETIs.  That's "Economically Targeted Investments."  This wonderful Democratic plan doesn't actually take your pension funds, it just tells you where you can and where you cannot invest them.  Under this grand Democratic plan the government would set standards for companies in which you could invest qualified retirement funds.  And just what would those standards be?  Well, let's start with "union friendly" for one.  You just use your imagination for the rest of the list.

Oh ... and don't forget to vote Democrat!  You can be the cause of your own financial destruction!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CALIFORNIA

The Neal Boortz Show wants to  wish a happy birthday to California.  It was this week way back in 1850 that California became a State.  Isn't that special.  At that time there was no electricity in California and the state was virtually broke.  Almost everyone in the state spoke Spanish, and there were gunfights in the streets.  In other words, things were pretty much the same in California then as they are now ... except the women had real breasts and you could travel from one end of Los Angeles to the other in less than an hour.

MAYBE WE WOULD BE WELL-ADVISED TO STOP THIS ONE IN ITS TRACKS.

Yesterday I read a story on the air about some Florida developers who were going to build "gay friendly" homes and condos.  Gay friendly?  What's that all about?  I wondered aloud just how one would go about building a home designed for gays and lesbians.  Well, sure enough ... the listeners hit their computers and started sending the email.  One suggested that a gay friendly home would only have a back door.  Another said that a lesbian friendly home would be built without studs.  OK .. enough.  We all see where this is going.  Remember ... the FCC Gestapo is listening.

READING ASSIGNMENTS
(Those of you who attended government schools are permitted to obtain assistance)

You will notice that I don't post a lot of articles here about the gay marriage controversy.  Well ... Thomas Sowell has written the best column I've read on the subject.  So here it is!

Now here is some good ... and surprising news.  Teen pregnancy in the United States has fallen to a level that is below any previously reported in the United States.  For teenagers, chastity has become cool .... and that's cool.

You've probably heard that some Democrats want Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia to recuse himself from a case dealing with the institutional role of the Vice Presidency.  Why?  Because he went hunting with Cheney.  You can show your friends how much you know about this issue by reading this article.  How impressive.

Well well well ... here we have yet another so-called "civil rights group" out there trying to make a name for itself.  How better than to slam John Kerry for saying that he would like to be known as America's second black president.

John Kerry has decided he's not going to wait for election day in Florida before he sends the lawyers in.

John Kerry once praised Yasser Arafat as a "role model."  Role model for what?  And this guy wants to be president?

Charles Krauthammer explains in this piece why 9/11 belongs in the presidential campaign. He says Bush has a right to invoke images of an event voters will judge him by.

One poll shows that today John Edwards would defeat George Bush in North Carolina. The reason? Free trade, and that has the GOP worried, writes Robert Novak.

Ronald Brownstein says that Kerry's best bet to beat Bush is a job shortage, proving once again that what's bad for the country is good for the Democrats.

With all this talk about the lack of WMD in Iraq, Richard Chesnoff says it's time to get serious about Iran's nukes.

This is a lot of fun. Check out some of the things John Kerry's opponents in the Democratic primary had to say about him. Remember General Weasley Clark pulling rank?

Oh darn. Fox News is denying a report that they are in talks with Al Sharpton to give him his own TV talk show. Think how much fun that would be.

AAA is warning that gas could hit $2 a gallon this summer. Is anyone honestly going to cancel their plans because the price of gas has gone up? I doubt it. We wouldn't be having this problem if the anti-capitalist "environmentalists" would let us drill for our own oil.

Are U.S. Senators doing a little insider trading themselves? A study shows their portfolios outperform the market by 12%.  I guess we shouldn't be concerned, since they don't have cooking shows or sell sheets at K-Mart.

Democratic Senator Joe Biden from Delaware writes a good op-ed piece in USA Today about how Major League Baseball needs to do more about the steroid problem.

DirecTV has filed a lawsuit accusing OJ Simpson of stealing DirecTV service. I guess watching 200 channels of digital-quality satellite TV is helping him find the real killers.
