Friday, March 12, 2004THE END OF PRIVATE PROPERTY I ask you today to consider a time in America when there will be no such thing as the private ownership of real estate; where the American dream of home ownership will belong to a past era. Instead of title to a parcel of real property, you'll get a license to occupy that property for a determined period of time. That license will be issued by the government, and subject to renewal on a periodic basis. Renewal will be considered based on several factors, including how you are using that land, and whether or not the license fees you pay for that usage is adequate. Some areas of this country are closer to this reality than others. Take Connecticut, for instance. The Connecticut Supreme Court recently ruled that private ownership of land was subject to the needs of local jurisdictions for more tax revenue or a wider jobs base. If your friendly local politicians in Connecticut think that someone else could redevelop your property in such a way that it would support higher property taxes, or provide more jobs for the community, then the politicians can simply step in, seize the property, pay the current "owner" some stipend, and hand the property over to a new owner. That includes private residences. As this attack on private property evolves in America you'll hear politicians start to talk about "public ownership of all real estate." That's the argument they use today for denying to broadcasters their private property rights in and to broadcast frequencies. Scarcity in the broadcast spectrum is used as an excuse. Scarcity? Technology is expanding available broadcast frequencies at a rapid rate. Not so for real estate. They really aren't making any more of that stuff. If you want to use scarcity as an excuse for government control, what better place than real estate? Attacks on the private ownership of real estate are spreading. Enjoy your home while you can. Somewhere out there is a sharp developer who has his eye on your property .. and a case to make before your local politicians that he can do a better job of owning your property than you can. HE ACTUALLY USED THE WORD "FREEDOM!" President Bush is actually airing a campaign ad in which he uses the word "freedom." This is an amazing development, folks, and possibly a mistake. Doesn't George Bush know that Americans are far more interested in security than they are in freedom? This is the era of "it's not my responsibility," not the era of "leave me alone and let me take care of it." This is a daring tactic in this day and age. We'll see if it works. WHY DOES KERRY WHINE ABOUT THAT EVIL "REPUBLICAN ATTACK MACHINE" OK, dammit. Now I'm really upset. I was watching Cutie Pie and Colmes last night and heard Sean Hannity say that he has been told by an unnamed reporter that John sKerry is naming names. He's identifying the specific people whom he considers to be a part of the "Republican attack machine." Among those named are Sean and Rush Limbaugh. Just damn! What do I have to do to get on this list! I'm just as anxious to attack sKerry as anyone else out there. I think he's dangerous to America, dangerous to the safety of American citizens, a threat to our economy, and unfriendly to the very concept of freedom. I'm also not afraid to say that I think that the media should look a little closer at those Purple Hearts sKerry won in Vietnam .. especially in light of his refusal to release any medical records dealing with those wounds. Maybe the problem here is that I'm not a Republican. So, how about a new category? How about some accusations from sKerry that there's a vicious Libertarian attack machine out there trying to destroy him. Maybe I could get on that list! Let's also point out here why sKerry is so concerned about these so-called "attack ads." It's because he knows that there's plenty to attack. Believe me ... we'll be out there swinging, and you can be on the phones with your counterpunches. 192 DEAD, 1200 WOUNDED. SO .. WAS IT AL QAEDA? Have you seen those images on television yesterday? Did you see those trains in Spain blown to bits? Now ... can you picture that same scene somewhere in the United States ... maybe in the Northeast corridor or in Chicago where tens of thousands of people commute by rail? So, you think this election is about jobs and health care? There are about 200 people in Spain who will no longer benefit from any health care, and another 1200 who probably won't be going to work for today .. or for a while ... or maybe never. Is Al-Qaeda back? Maybe they never left! The supposedly peaceful religion of Islam has struck again, brutally murdering 192 people, and wounding more than 1200. If you think the war on terror isn't important, then it's time to get your head out of the sand, or whatever dark region you have it stored. Unless you have been living under a rock, by now you have heard what happened. 10 backpack bombs exploded within a 15-minute span, starting at about 7:40am yesterday aboard commuter trains. Police also detonated three more bombs. A stolen van was found near Madrid containing seven detonators and an Arabic tape with Koran verses on it. The Spanish government initially pointed the finger at a separatist group, but then a letter was faxed to Reuters by an Al-Qaeda-backed group. They referred to the attack as "operation death trains." The attack occurred 911 days after September 11th. Another letter was faxed to the Associated Press office in Cairo warning that America was next. That's right; Al-Qaeda says America is next. You have a role to play here. You have a decision to make ... and that decision will be made on November 2nd. You will decide who is going to lead this country in this time of peril .. this era of Islamic terrorism. Maybe you'll want to chose someone who has proven that he will use the American military and whatever resources are available to him to hunt these terrorists down and kill them. Or maybe you'll want to chose the man who says that this is all a law enforcement problem; someone who, if he does manage to catch these Islamic predators with his glorified police force, will then turn them over to some international tribunal for trial. As the great Og Mandino once said, "Use wisely your power of choice." Who do you think the thousands of people who have died at the hands of Al-Qaeda would choose? And who do you think the Al Qaeda supporters and sympathizers in the United States will chose? And who do you think Susan Lindauer would chose? Who is Susan Lindauer? Read on ........ ALLEGED IRAQI SPY ONLY WORKED FOR DEMOCRATS .... apparently Susan Lindauer is a spy. You may have heard about this story involving a woman arrested yesterday for allegedly spying for Iraq, both before and after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. That's Susan Lindauer, and she has quite a history. She has worked for four members of Congress, Fortune, U.S. News and World Report, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and the Iraqi intelligence service. That's quite a resume. That's how it's being reported by the media, but let's look a little bit closer, shall we? It turns out the four members of Congress that she worked for were all Democrats. She worked for some of them for a short time, and one says she doesn't remember her. Fine. But it's interesting how the media is not really reporting that she only worked for Democrats. The AP story initially reported that they were only "members of Congress." The party affiliation of those members wasn't mentioned. There is, though, one newspaper out there will name names, and that is The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. In today's AJC you'll see a headline which reads "Accused Spy is Cousin of Bush Staffer." Here we have someone who has worked for four congressional Democrats .. and ONLY congressional Democrats ... and our local leftist rag identifies her as the cousin of a Bush staffer. Anyone who doesn't believe the media is biased needs their head examined. Can you imagine if she had only worked for Republicans? The media would be spinning on its eyebrows and demanding accountability, wondering what it all meant, and writing endless columns about spies working in the Republican party. Interesting how the news gets reported these days, isn't it? Oh and by the way...when are we going to start executing people for treason? KERRY WON'T REVEAL WHICH FOREIGN LEADERS SUPPORT HIM Remember last week when Democratic frontrunner for president John Kerry said that he had met with foreign leaders who said they supported the defeat of President Bush? At the time, he didn't name any names. Well, apparently he isn't going to either. Perhaps because there weren't any? Who knows. Turns out Kerry has made no official trips abroad since the start of last year. According to the Washington Times, an extensive review of his travel schedule domestically only turned up one opportunity to meet with a foreign leader. When his spokesperson was asked, she replied "In terms of who he's talked to, we're not going to discuss that." So, it looks like we're left to fill in the blanks. Who could it be? Well, there was already a report that North Korean nutcase Kim Jong-Il was rooting for a Kerry victory. Based on John Kerry's positions, you would have to also count Saddam Hussein as a supporter, along with any other brutal, terrorist dictator around the world. Also, Kerry is on record as a supporter of Arastide down in Haiti. Could it be...that he's just making stuff up? We have several months to decide. WHERE TO FIND OUT ABOUT URBAN LEGENDS Just because you found it on the internet or in your email it isn't necessarily true. One great resource for finding out about known urban legends is snopes.com. Check it out when you're in doubt. READING ASSIGNMENTS So, you thought the war on terror was over? Maybe there were some people in Madrid who thought the same thing. They think differently today. After all the uproar that Bush's 9/11 ads caused, columnist David Broder asks the question: would FDR run those ads? The answer may surprise you. Check it out. Think terrorism has died down in America? Robert Spencer reports that suspected Islamic terrorists continue to be arrested throughout the United States. If you listen to all the doom and gloom in the media about Iraq, you would think our efforts there were a complete failure. Think again, says David Francis, because things are actually going very well. Here's an interesting look at the corrupt United Nations' food-for-oil program, which Saddam used to starve his people and build bigger palaces. Jeff Jacoby says it's time for a regime change in Iran. Tehran's increasing support for terrorism along with their nuclear program makes them a good candidate. The Bush administration has begun running ads attacking John Kerry's record. Of course, the Kerry campaign is calling them negative ads, and the DNC's handmaidens in the media are going along. Robert Novak chronicles just who deposed Haitian President Aristide's allies were. Interesting support from the Democrats for a corrupt tyrant (although no one should be surprised.) Abu Abbas, the Palestinian terrorist that recently died in US custody, has an interesting history. Oliver North describes how he slipped through our fingers once before. Emmett Tyrell debates the issue of job growth, and argues that it really is growing, despite media reports to the contrary. He also talks about how this will impact the moron vote this fall. So much for all the angry, Bush-hating Democrats. Voter turnout in the Democratic primaries has been lower than average, with voters staying home. And that is just where we want liberals on election day. |
