A HUGE VICTORY FOR TERRORISTS

This morning on CNN they were asking whether or not the socialist victory in Spain meant the terrorists were winning.  Answer:  Definitely.  Up until the time of the terrorist (apparently Islamic) attack on those trains in Spain the government of Jose Maria Aznar was holding a dominating lead in the polls.  Spain's new leader will be Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.  He is pledging to bring Spain's troops home from Iraq.  He will also adopt a foreign policy that is decidedly less friendly to the United States than was Aznar.  The new Spanish government will align itself with the European Axis of Weasels, Germany, France, Belgium and other appeasement-oriented countries.

There is no doubt that terrorists are going to consider this to be a victory.  How could they not?  It's a week before a Spanish election.  A man who has been bold and eager in his support for President Bush's war against terror and the liberation of Iraq is enjoying a seeming insurmountable lead in the polls.  Terrorists attack ... 200 people die ... 1500 are injured ... and the people go to the polls and vote against Anzar.  Many voters said that the terrorist attack was payment for Anzar's support of the United States.  So that support is going .. and Islamic terrorism wins.

Today, as a result of the Zapatero victory in Spain, the hand of Islamic terrorism is strengthened.

Clearly the terrorists prefer national leaders who will appease them rather than leaders who will try to locate them and kill them.  This would mean that the terrorists would much rather see John sKerry win in the United States than President Bush.  I know that's a tough pill to swallow for the Democrats ... but the fact is that in this presidential election they are clearly on the same side as the terrorists.  Saying it ain't so won't work. You're just going to have to find a way to accept it and live with it

Now ... here's the more sobering question for you to consider.   Do these Islamic terrorists think that the same tactic would work in the United States?  Would a deadly terrorist attack in this country help them as it did in Spain?  Would voters quickly turn against George Bush and put a man more friendly to them in office?  Now I'm not saying that this is the way Americans would react.  What I am saying is that this might be the way the Islamic terrorists think you would react.  If they do, then the danger of another deadly terrorist attack on America has just become more serious.

A BASIC DIFFERENCE

When it comes to terrorism there is clearly a difference between the way those who vote Republican and those who vote Democrat feel.  We have a new Gallup poll out.  The poll was taken during the first week in March. Voters were asked which issue they thought was more important in the election, economics or terrorism?

Combining all voters, 65% thought the economy was the most important issue.  Only 26% said that the most important issue was terrorism. The figures are different when you consider party affiliation.  Republican voters put terrorism ahead by 48 to 46%.  That's bad enough ... but it's far worse for Democratic voters.  Only 10% of Democrats said terrorism would be the number one issue.

Then the question was phrased differently.  Gallup asked: "If you had to choose, which of the following presidential candidates would you be more likely to vote for --- a candidate who would do a good job on the economy, or a candidate who would do a good job protecting the country from terrorism?"

The economy won by 51% to 42%.  For Democrats, however, the split was 72% to 25%.  Republicans went for the president who would protect us from terrorism by 62 to 32%.

The differences are stark and disturbing, and it all comes down to your view of the role of government.   If you feel that the primary responsibility of the federal government is national defense -- keeping our country and our people safe from foreign aggression then you are more likely to vote Republican.  If, on the other hand, you feel that the primary responsibility of government is to take care of you economically .. to make sure you have a job, and to inoculate you from the harsh consequences of laziness and poor decision making .. you'll vote Democratic.

Now .. an intemperate question of my own.  Which type of voter would be most likely to create a society in which you would like to live?  The type of voter who seeks government immunity from poor decision making and who feels that his basic needs should be guaranteed to him by a paternalistic government; or the type of voter who seeks a government that will protect his social and economic liberty and allow him to fail or flourish based on his own hard work?

MURDER IN UTERO

Another intemperate question:  If a woman  can be charged with murder because she didn't have a C-section, why can't we charge pregnant women who smoke with child abuse?

IT'S WORTH A TRY...

A personal ad in the Friday, March 12 edition of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Who do you think she'll vote for come November 2?

KERRY WAS READY TO INVADE IRAQ IN 1997

Yet more evidence today that the standard-bearer for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination has absolutely no political soul, and just makes things up as he goes along. Today's installment? The war in Iraq.  Now, you know that Kerry has been both for the war, against the war, for it again, sort of against it and then for it again.  What you may not know is just how ready he was a few years ago to do just what he criticizes President Bush of doing.

Speaking on CNN's "Crossfire" on November 12, 1997, Kerry criticized the United Nations, France and Russia for not being tougher on Iraq.  Not only that ...  he even pointed out that the Clinton administration didn't need UN approval to act on Iraq.  "The administration is making it clear they don't even need the UN security council to sign off on a material breach...so furthermore, I think the United States has always reserved the right and will reserve the right to act in its best interests." He also went on to criticize the French for not being more helpful, and said that the issue wasn't just about weapons of mass destruction, but Iraq's breach of agreements.  In other words, he said the same things then that the Bush administration has been saying all along.  Holding Saddam Hussein accountable is only a good idea if there's a Democrat in the White House.

It's too bad for the Democrats that Kerry already has the nomination sewed up.  They rushed the process, and now they've wound up with a lemon and no return policy.  I guess they can always vote for Nader.

By the way ... a great line from the Bush camp over the weekend.  sKerry, as you know, is challenging Bush to a series of monthly debates leading to the election.  Bush officials said that perhaps it might be a good idea for Kerry to finish debating himself before he tries to take on the president.

ARAB-AMERICAN GROUP WHINING OVER BUSH AD

The Bush campaign is catching heat from an Arab-American group for accurately portraying the truth in a campaign ad.  The group is calling on Bush to remove a "Middle Eastern looking" man from an ad that focuses on terrorism. The president of the Arab-American Institute is calling it racial profiling. The Bush campaign is telling them to stick it.  Time for a little insensitivity training.

Yeah ... you heard that right.  Arab-Americans are complaining because there's a Middle Eastern looking man portrayed as a terrorist in a campaign ad.  Using a person of Middle Eastern decent to portray a terrorist is like using a tall person to portray an NBA center.

So we really need to go over the facts here?  All of the terrorists on 9/11 were Arabs, all of the terrorists on 9/11 were Muslims, all of the terrorists on 9/11 were "Middle Eastern-looking"  men.  So, to accurately portray the truth and to represent a terrorist in a commercial, what do you expect the Bush campaign to do?  A regular old white guy isn't going to look very convincing as an Islamic terrorist. It would be a tough sell, even with a turban.

A better response to this would be to ask the president of this group why so many terrorists supposedly practice the "peaceful" religion of Islam?  Why does Allah tell them to blow up so many innocent civilians?  Where is it written that flying airplanes into buildings, blowing up buses and using suicide bombers in busy cafes is peaceful?  It isn't, and it's not.

It's time for these groups to worry more about how the terrorists make them look than about how terrorists are portrayed in campaign ads.

LIFE'S RULES

Here's one of those things that has been bouncing around email for a few years.  Sometimes it's attributed to Bill Gates, sometimes Paul Harvey, but never to me.  That's OK though, because I didn't write it.  I'm putting it here to (a) infuriate the person who actually did, and (b) so you can print it and post it in your child's bedroom.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping - they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parents' generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

It now appears as if many of the most vocal critics of the war to liberate Iraq were on the take.  Saddam's money was somehow finding its way into their pockets.

If the only way you formed your opinion about what was happening in Iraq was by watching the mainstream media, you would think the war was a disaster.  Not so, says Michael Barone, who writes that things are actually going very well, despite the Democratic propaganda machine known as the nightly news.

What are we doing in Haiti?  Not one single US intervention in Haiti has ever worked.  Not one.  Here we are trying again.  Isn't that the definition of insanity?  This Heritage Foundation report details all we have done .. and suggests what needs to be done now.

Last week's coverage of the Iraqi spy that worked for four Democrats in Congress shows that the media is as biased as ever. Mark Steyn explains, with some interesting new information.

U.S. gasoline prices have hit a record dollar high, with a national average of $1.77 a gallon.  In terms of inflation this means that gas is about two cents a gallon more than it was in 1972. This doesn't really mean much, except now all we're going to keep hearing is how it is George Bush's fault.  Gasoline is like cigarettes, if you want it bad enough, you'll pay whatever it costs.

Secretary of State Colin Powell has officially told John Kerry to shut up.  Kerry had been running around saying some foreign leaders were supporting him for president instead of George Bush. Colin Powell said on Fox News Sunday Kerry should put up or shut up.

The government is taking the first steps toward a targeted military draft of Americans with special skills in computers and foreign languages.

John Kerry is challenging President Bush to monthly debates. The Bush campaign has dismissed the idea and after all, why should they bother?  Is anyone going to really remember or care what was said at some debate 7 1/2 months before the election?

Diana West writes that John Kerry's speeches are being blared over official government radio in North Korea.  They really like him over there.  Now we know which foreign leader wants Kerry to win ... and Democrats have a clearer idea just what type of people

Robert Novak talks about John McCain, and how he is actually sabotaging President Bush's chances for re-election.  Interesting look at "Hairshirt McCain."

Paul Greenberg explains how John Kerry is the toast of Paris and says France is most certainly favoring Kerry in the election.

John Kerry's wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry is threatening to tap her ketchup fortune to finance ads against the Bush campaign.  Were we supposed to believe she wasn't going to do this anyway?

Here's a powerful column. Tom Utley talks about Madrid, and the cell phones ringing in the pockets and handbags of the dead.

How many teenagers are going do die because of Britney's latest stunt? Oh, you haven't heard about it?  She commits suicide in her newest "music" video.
