Tuesday, March 23, 2004AND BOY ARE MY ARMS TIRED I just flew the Mooney in to Atlanta from Orlando this morning .. in time for the show ... but not in time to produce a lot of pithy notes. Soooo .... these offerings are from my staff. Now you know that they think like I do ... which is why they don't have a lot of friends. WHITE HOUSE CAVES IN ON ISRAELI TERRORIST KILLING Just when you thought the Bush administration might grow a pair and praise Israel for doing what needed to be done and killing Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, they don't. The news out of the White House progressively got worse. Too bad they caved in. They should be celebrating. The White House said "we are deeply troubled by this morning's incident in Gaza." Why? If the United States' official position is that Hamas is a terrorist organization, then why would we be upset about Israel killing the leader of that organization? Then, the spineless terrorist-appeasing weasels at The State Department had to chime in. Their take? The "attack" was "deeply troubling," would increase tensions in the Middle East and make it harder to pursue peace. What are they talking about? There is no peace to pursue. The only way there is going to be peace is if Israel is allowed to win the war and then set the terms of surrender. That's how you get peace. But oh no...we don't want to offend the rest of the Arab world, do we? Can't make the terrorists mad, you know. By the way, did anyone else notice that the media is constantly calling this an "assassination," instead of what it is, which is a terrorist killing? Would killing Bin Laden be called an "assassination?" After all, he's also the leader of a terrorist organization. ADMINISTRATION HITS BACK HARD OVER CLARKE BOOK The Bush administration wasn't about to let Richard Clarke's appearance on '60 Minutes' go unanswered for one minute yesterday, dispatching officials out into the media to answer every last charge made on Sunday night's broadcast. The mainstream media was eating it up, and it was time to set the record straight. This is how you run a campaign. Vice President Dick Cheney, appearing on the Godfather's program, called out Richard Clarke for being part of the Clinton administration's completely inept policy toward handling terrorism. After all, what was the Clinton's response to the 1993 attack on the World Trade center? The African embassy bombings? The USS Cole? Why did Clinton turn down Sudan's offer of Osama Bin Laden? President Clinton has said it was become the US had no probable cause to hold him, which tells you everything you need to know about Democrats and terrorism. They view it as a law enforcement problem. They were worried about Osama's rights. They could have shot his plane down on its way to Afghanistan, and 9/11 might have been prevented. Who knows. Asked about Clarke's motivations, Cheney said that he was probably just mad because Condoleezza Rice didn't give him the promotion he wanted. Isn't it amazing how much news a bitter, partisan, disgruntled ex-employee with an axe to grind and a book to sell can make? JOHN KERRY AVOIDING THE LIBERAL LABEL AT ALL COSTS Ever since the National Journal rated Senator John Kerry more liberal than Ted Kennedy, the Kerry campaign has been running as fast as it can away from the liberal label. And that has some liberals wondering just why Kerry is so ashamed of his record. After all, that's their guy, so what's his problem? In an open letter to John Kerry, the ultra-liberal Walter Cronkite accuses John Kerry of lacking the courage of his convictions, and says Kerry needs to explain his positions and stop running from his record. This is so much fun to watch. If Kerry thinks "liberal" is a dirty word, then how is that supposed to make all of his friends feel? Appearing on Sunday's 'Meet the Press' Senator Edward Kennedy waffled when asked directly if he thought John Kerry was a liberal, saying "labels don't make a lot of sense." Of course, labels only make a lot of sense when they're talking about the "right-wing attack machine." Still more than 7 months to go...can you imagine how nasty and fun this campaign is going to get? SEPARATED AT BIRTH Found by Peter Wine and scraped off of this site:
READING ASSIGNMENTS Rich Lowry writes about Richard Clarke, and how his book reads like a typical just-out-of-government memoir, the kind of thing you've seen and heard a million times before. David Limbaugh says the presidential campaign will come down to perception vs. reality, and that the Democrats are very good at playing the perception game. Thomas Sowell warns of the dangers of outsourcing foreign policy and says it has been done before. An interesting history lesson. Check it out. Cal Thomas talks about the two things that should raise suspicions about the motives of Richard Clarke. If the presidential election were held today, who would win? Matt Towery crunches the numbers, and explains why President Bush is back on top. Drudge makes an interesting point about Richard Clarke's new book being published by a unit of Viacom, which also owns CBS and 60 Minutes. Imagine if a Republican did that? Former New York Senator Alfonse D'Amato says that President Bush will win the war on terror, because the world now knows the US is not a sleeping tiger. Here's Walter Cronkite's open letter to John Kerry, wondering why he is running from his record, and what he thinks he has to be ashamed of. One of the little-known facts of campaign 2004 so far has been the low voter turnout in the Democratic primaries. Donald Lambro explains what it all means. Robert Samuelson makes the observation that Americans are actually feeling worse as prosperity increases, because now people have more time to worry about their feelings.
