DICK CLARKE DIDN'T HAVE TO TESTIFY IN 1999.....SO WHY SHOULD RICE?

It looks like the White House is about to cave in and either allow Condoleezza Rice to testify under oath  in front of the 9/11 Commission, or have a transcript of her comments read into the record.  If this happens, score a victory for the leftist media.  These reporters, editors and producers knew what the true story was here ... but they just couldn't resist the temptation to climb on board with their Democrat partners to hammer the Bush White House ... while failing, somehow, to really cover the other side of the story.

Now we have an interesting little tidbit from the Clinton era.    In 1999 the Senate convened a special committee on the Y2K scare.  The committee wanted testimony from none other than Richard Clarke.  That's right .. the very same Richard Clarke, the great apologizer that would have prevented 9/11 if only people had listened to him.  So ... did Clarke  testify?  No, he didn't.  And why not?  Because the Clinton White House refused to permit him to testify, citing executive privilege.  That is the very same reason the Bush White House is giving for their refusal to allow Dr. Rice to  testify under oath before this commission.

As for the Democrats' argument that Rice can appear on TV, but not before the commission, there is a difference. One is sworn testimony under penalty of perjury, and one is not. Presidential advisers don't testify under oath. They don't now, and they didn't five  years ago when Clinton refused to allow Richard Clarke to do so. Why is this so hard for some people to understand? Must be the government schools.

DIVERTING TERRORIST FUNDS

I think I've figured out why Cynthia Al-McKinney is running for her old seat in the Congress.  Cynthia has actually had a change of heart.  She has now decided to become a warrior in the cause, and has devised a fiendish plot to drain Islamic terrorist organizations of money.

Cynthia knows that as soon as she sets up a campaign committee various Islamic groups in the United States and abroad will start making heavy contributions.   Every dollar donated to a Cynthia McKinney campaign is a dollar that won't find its way into the coffers of Islamic terrorists.

Cynthia Al-McKinney ... American patriot.

THE LATEST GET-RICH-QUICK SCHEME: SLAVE REPARATIONS

Supposed "descendants" of slaves filed a $1 billion lawsuit against U.S. and British corporations, citing genocide committed against their ancestors. Lawyers for the "plaintiffs" said it was the first reparations suit to use DNA testing to link these losers to Africans that suffered during the slave trade. The suit accuses Lloyd's of London, Fleet Boston and R.J. Reynolds of "aiding and abetting the commission of genocide" by allegedly financing and insuring slave ships.  As if you weren't groaning loud enough already, check out this quote from one of the plaintiffs at the news conference announcing the suit: "the defendants have destroyed our national and ethnic identity."  You've got to be kidding me.  There is not one single living human being in the United States today who cannot trace his or her ancestry back to someone who was held in slavery.  At one time slavery was the norm, not the exception.  Funny how this didn't destroy most of our national and ethnic identities, isn't it?

This is a sensitive subject, for sure.  But I don't shy away from sensitive subjects.  The ugly truth here is that this whole reparations-for-slavery drive is being pushed by people who hope to rise to positions of power and influence on the back of the heritage of slavery.  Add to that an ever-growing number of people who cannot accept the responsibility for where they are in their lives.  Can't find a good job?  Blame slavery.  On drugs?  Blame slavery.  In jail?  Blame slavery.  Yeah .. it sure is a lot easier than taking responsibility yourself.

The bottom line is this: there is not a single living soul alive today that is responsible for the slave trade that ended in the United States 141 years ago.  There is no one to sue.  Rather, this is all about trying to cash in on the legal system and nothing more.  Instead of going out and actually working for a living, these money-grubbing whiners actually think they can extort money from corporations under the guise of "reparations."  Imagine the precedent this would set...what would be next?  Native American descendants suing white people for stealing their land? You can only go back so far. If there are any distant relatives of Christopher Columbus around, they might want to get an attorney.

A federal judge threw out a similar case in January.  This one should meet the same fate, but that won't stop people from trying.

WHINING AWOL SOLDIER SAYS IRAQ WAR "MORALLY WRONG"

The media just loves stories like this, don't they?  Lately, it's the same basic tale:  A soldier refuses to serve in the war in Iraq, because he says it is wrong. Immediately, this unhappy troop's story is broadcast all over the world. The inference? Why...one combat troop says the war is wrong!  If the troops aren't on board with the war, then it must be a bad idea!  Today's "conscientious objector" is Staff Sergeant Camilo Mejia. who says he became convinced the war in Iraq was morally wrong.  Too bad.

Do we really have a case of cold feet here?    When you sign up to serve in the armed services of the United States of America, you serve at the direction of the Commander in Chief, the president of the United States.  Once you sign on the dotted line, you are the property of the government for the term of your enlistment.  Should a deployment occur, off you go, to do whatever you're told, no questions asked.  The time for figuring out that you are a conscientious objector, or a coward, or whatever, is before you volunteer, not after the country has spent tens of thousands of dollars training you.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Today on the show you will hear me reference an article in the current issue of National Review titled "Creating Work."  I will urge you to read this article.  Here's your link, if you should chose to do so.  And you should so chose.

So ... you're wondering why gas prices are so high?  John sKerry says it's all Bush's fault.  If you want a more informed opinion you can read this.

So Ralph Nader is going to meet with John Kerry.  I thought Ralphie boy said there was no difference between the Democrats and the Republicans?  Nader says he shares the common objective with Kerry of beating Bush. Prediction: he'll drop out and endorse Kerry at some point, in exchange for a job.

Thailand's Prime Minister is making his daughter work at McDonald's so she learns the value of hard work.  What a great idea...we should try that in this country more often.

Richard Clarke's friends say he has lost all credibility because of his anti-Bush rantings. Turns out nearly all of the anti-terrorism officials were Clinton holdovers until just before 9/11.

Al-Qaeda's captured operations chief has told U.S. interrogators that the group had been planning attacks on other targets in America. The reason they didn't go through with it?  President Bush's decisive response to 9/11 disrupted their network.

George Will says that Richard Clarke's book will be quickly forgotten. He writes that it is unlikely any president will be consulting Clarke's book 10 years from now. A good read.

Now here is a candidate we can all get behind: Thomas Sowell explains what his platform would be, were he to run for office.  This is a good start.

Jack Kemp talks about the inexcusable actions of Richard Clarke: undermining the president during a time of war. He even praises Clarke before taking him to the woodshed.

Doug Bandow writes about the misguided legislation against "predatory lending," including those loans people get before their tax refund check comes in. An interesting perspective.

David Limbaugh asks the question: "Now who's politicizing the war?" The Kerry campaign is accusing President Bush of politicizing the war on terror, when in fact, it is the other way around.

This should make you feel safer...the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas has been investing millions in US real estate projects in order to raise money for terrorist activities.  Gives a new meaning to 'neighborhood watch,' now doesn't it?

If Ted Kennedy drove a Volkswagen, he'd be President today [thanks to listener Mark]
