DISPELLING ELECTION MYTHS.The current issue of Time has a small piece entitled "The
Folklore of Election 04". Frankly, I'm a bit surprised Time even
printed this piece. It shatters some of the popular excuses offered by
Democrats for their loss. Some examples: - Did those pesky Christians show up in overwhelming numbers to defeat the
Godless Democrats? Nope. A Democratic pollster shows that the
percentage of voters in 2004 who attend church regularly was 42%.
That's exactly the same as the percentage who voted in 2000.
- Was the election all about moral standards? Some 22% of voters cited
morals as a reason for their vote. Iraq and terrorism were cited by
34% of the voters.
- The election was stolen. How did Bush win those Florida counties
where the majority of the voters are registered Democrats? Oops.
It seems that those Florida counties have been voting for Republican
presidents for decades.
Oh well ... I suppose the Democrats and the left will keep trying to come up
with excuses. Anything is better than admitting that you were simply
rejected by the American people. THE CLINTON PRESIDENTIAL DOUBLEWIDE OPENS
Unless you are living under a rock, you no doubt saw the rain-soaked coverage of
the opening of the Clinton
presidential library. All of the living presidents except Gerald Ford
were on hand, and all gave speeches. Everybody (including both Presidents
Bush) had nice things to say about Bill Clinton. That was the nature of
the event. The media gushing was off the charts, as usual.
Yet nowhere in any of the coverage did you hear much about the following Clinton
administration facts:
- Bill Clinton did nothing about terrorism for 8 years
- Bill Clinton turned down the direct handover of Osama Bin Laden
- Bill Clinton lied under oath, was impeached and had his law license
revoked while in office.
- Bill Clinton raised your taxes after promising he wouldn't
And that's just the tip of the iceberg. So while everybody pretends
that the Clinton presidency from 1993-2001 was somehow the greatest period in
our nation's history, just pause and remind yourself of some of the other
lesser-known facts.
It was, however, a great time for talk radio.
THE CONDI-BASHING CONTINUES
The
relentless attacks by the media and the liberal establishment continue against
Secretary of State Nominee Condoleezza Rice. As predicted, the left has
now decided to play the "sellout" card. You see, any black
American that does not agree with the agenda of liberals in this country is a
traitor -- an Uncle Tom -- a sellout -- and they can't be trusted. It's
the same thing that happened to Clarence Thomas.
The latest example of this comes to us courtesy of some radio guy in Madison,
Wisconsin named John Sylvester. On the air Wednesday, he called Dr. Rice
"Aunt Jemima" (after the black woman on the pancake mix box) and Colin
Powell an "Uncle Tom." His reasoning? "I was aiming
that directly at a black person that is letting himself (and herself) be used by
an administration that has been extremely hostile to minorities." Oh
really? What could he possibly be talking about? How has George Bush
been the least bit hostile to minorities? By being the first to appoint
them to high offices? Please. It seems that there are some members of the
minority community out there who would dry up and blow away if they couldn't
whine that someone somewhere was being "hostile" towards them.
Actually, this has nothing to do with race. It's about an intolerant
leftist ideology that doesn't accept any other views. Unless you toe the
line for the Democratic party, you're an Uncle Tom and a sellout.
IRAN HAS NUKES...NOW WHAT?
Remember in President Bush's speech to Congress a few years ago where he called
Iraq, Iran and North Korea part of an 'Axis of Evil?' Well, now we're
seeing why...and it isn't pretty.
Colin Powell made a presentation where he said Iran could be building nuclear
weapons, and was seeking a delivery system. Now the media is doubting the
intelligence, saying it may have been unverified. My question is this: do
you want to find out the hard way?
Do you trust the Islamic terrorist regime in Tehran to responsibly manage a
nuclear weapons program? Do you trust them to not sell a nuclear warhead
to the highest bidder...say, a group like Al-Qaeda?
We should identify the targets and destroy them. Then we won't have to
worry whether the nuclear plants were for electricity or not. TEXAS A&M BONFIRE MEMORIAL
Fifty
thousand people attended a ceremony on the campus of Texas A&M University to
honor the 12 people killed and 27 people injured when the Aggie bonfire
collapsed five years ago. The occasion was the dedication of the Texas
A&M Bonfire Memorial. When I was on the A&M campus last
weekend for the A&M - Tech football game there was much being said about the
bonfire. With the passage of five years a "generation" of Aggie
students have come and gone without any firsthand experience with an
"official" Thanksgiving bonfire. Since the 1999 tragedy Aggies
have been forced to find an off-campus location for the annual event. With
the dedication of this Memorial it's time for the A&M administration to set
set some safety standards and bring this wonderful tradition back. More
than 12 Aggies have been killed in automobile accidents in the last five years,
yet they still allow automobiles on campus. Time to honor the victims and
move on.
READING ASSIGNMENTS Daniel Henninger writes that the troops in Fallujah are the best
American troops since World War II. The
Independent Women's Forum is denouncing the attacks on Condoleezza
Rice. Good for them.
Bill Clinton blew
his stack at Peter Jennings because he dared to question the immorality of
his presidency. Sounds like a sore spot for bubba, doesn't it?
Senator and RINO (Republican In Name Only) Arlen
Specter has the unanimous support he needs to become the next chairman of
the Senate Judiciary Committee. So much for the all of the protesting.
John Kerry is considering suing
John O'Neill, author of 'Unfit For Command' for libel. The best
defense against a libel suit is the truth. O'Neill says bring it on.
Should be interesting to see what happens.
The only thing standing in the way of the Republicans' success is their
timidity. They
can get their entire agenda done if they don't appear timid, says Robert Moran.
He also says they should ignore the liberal Democrats.
Colin Powell was the least-traveled secretary of state in 30 years, and that may
have contributed to his downfall. Max
Boot explains.
Now that they have been soundly defeated at the polls, what should the Democrats
do? David
Yepsen says they should start by ditching the snooty attitude.
Who should be Time magazine's 'Man of the Year?' Hugh
Hewitt says their choice should easily be George W. Bush. After all,
who has influenced the news more in the last 12 months?
The Republican in Washington state won the Governor's race by 261 votes. As
you might expect, a recount is forthcoming.
Even though the media and the left have demonized him over the past four years, Jeff
Jacoby says the nation owes a debt of gratitude to John Ashcroft.
Since the election, the president has shaken up his cabinet and the Military has
beaten the terrorists in Fallujah. Despite all of this, the media is
coming unhinged about all of it. David
Limbaugh tells us more.
One of the biggest fallacies in the media is this idea that if we take the war
to the terrorists, they will somehow never run out of resources. Thomas
Sowell explains how this line of thinking was refuted during the cold war. |
