| Saturday, October 23, 2004 -- 11 days SATURDAY READING ASSIGNMENTS I think Victor Davis Hanson is one of the best pundits out there, and he says that there is a good chance that no matter what Kerry says or does in the final two weeks of this election - barring some major catastrophe in Iraq, a presidential gaffe, or massive voting irregularity - he will lose. A great read from Charles Krauthammer. He says that the only way Kerry would be able to get the Europe to help us in the Middle East is to cave in to Europe and the Arab world on Israel. In spite of this, the majority of America's Jewish vote will go to Kerry on November 2nd. Go figure. Kerry threatened, and Sinclair Broadcast Group caved. So much for freedom of the press. You need to be concerned -- no, you need to be deeply worried by the fact that the vast majority of Americans get their daily dose of news and information from agencies that are licensed to operate by the federal government. That's why Sinclair paid attention to Kerry's veiled threat.
Belinda and I traveled to Stamford, CT yesterday to meet with our listeners in the Stamford and Norwalk areas at a "Dinner with Boortz" event! We want to thank the folks at Cox Radio's WSTC and WNLK for their kindness and for providing us with a broadcast location this morning. Last night's dinner was great and the people we met were fantastic. I don't think we talked to enough people though to swing Connecticut away from The Poodle ... not that we didn't try. I note this morning that recent polls of registered voters show Kerry with a rather significant lead in Ohio, one of the battleground states. Ohio has a depressed manufacturing economy. Somehow this is George Bush's fault. It doesn't matter that the recession started during Clinton's watch. The collapse of the dot.com economy is not to be considered in the equation, and the terrorist attacks of 9/11 play no role. It's all Bush's fault. This is harsh language, but accurate. What we have in Ohio is a significant portion of the electorate that cannot accept any personal responsibility for their current job situation. It is not their fault that they settled into a manufacturing job that any observer of the job market could have told them 15 or 20 years ago was fragile. Somehow in this world of advancing technology they thought that there was some great cosmic force out there that guaranteed them a job for life. Bottom line: These Kerry voters in Ohio have placed their job status above the security and the sovereignty of this nation. "Me first ... then the future of this country." Nice going. .... Just what it is about that Bank of America television commercial that bothers me so much. You know the one ... this woman and her husband are unpacking in their new home. She has obviously been to the local bank to open an account. She regales her husband with the story of her conversation with the bank. She wants free checking with no minimum balance. She wants free this, that and the other thing .... And she wants all of these things free "because I don't believe I should pay for any of it." This woman represents the attitude of so many Americans. It doesn't matter whether or not some service actually costs anything to provide ... they not only want it free, they believe that they deserve it free! I'm surprised this woman doesn't say that the government ought to force the bank to give her the goodies she believe she so richly deserves. Some so-called "experts" are saying that the government ought to take over the production of flu shots. Yeah ... that's it. Government comes along and contributes to a problem with price controls and irrational regulation, and the solution to the resulting problem is a government takeover. How do you feel confident about the future of the free market when government is allowed to create a problem in the marketplace, and then tout itself as the solution?
This is just great. Which is worse, Kofi Annan heading up the United Nations, or Former President Bill Clinton? I guess maybe the United States would be better off with Clinton running this worthless organization. So how is all of this coming to pass? The term of the current U.N. Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, expires in 2006. According to "insiders" (whoever that is) Clinton has the support to get the gig, including among the third world. The wire service UPI is reporting that Clinton wants to do it. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea...after all, the United States throws the majority of the money down the United Nations rathole...maybe this would give us some say in how the place is run. Then again, if Clinton were to run the UN the way he ran his presidency, it could be more of the same. Wonder why he wants the job so bad? Maybe that place is crawling with interns.
The Democrats and the Kerry campaign believe that Al Gore made a mistake four years ago in not immediately claiming victory in the presidential election (despite the fact that he hadn't yet won it.) The Poodle has decided that no matter what the election result is, they're going to claim victory, and even announce a national security team. In other words, the Democrats are going to try and steal the election. Again. The Poodle's campaign also says it will have six 'SWAT teams' of lawyers ready to go to any state to contest the outcome. They don't intend to respect any result. By what voting margin will they concede defeat? 5 points? 10 points? Are they going to follow their playbook they gave to the race warlords and claim voter intimidation? Will they invoke the 2000 Bush v. Gore decision about Equal Protection under the law? If the election is decided and over with on November 2nd, it will be a miracle. READING ASSIGNMENTS Everybody talks about "getting out the vote," but as Mona Charen explains, if you don't know what the issues are, then not only should you not vote, but you have an obligation to refrain from voting. Laura Bush is taking the high road over Tereezza Heinz-Kerry's "real job" comment. That's what you call class. Dick Cheney is mocking The Poodle's "October Disguise." What about the rest of the year's disguise? The Pentagon is considering lifting the ban on women in combat. Will the equal rights for equal pay crowd like this one? Only if it's a liberal's idea. Many Democrats are
already resigning themselves to a John Kerry defeat...and looking to the
Hildabeast's candidacy in 2008. | ||
