EIGHT DAYS ... And the polls are still showing this election as a dead heat. At this point I still think that the race will go to Kerry. Two reasons. First, the intensity of the white-hot hatred for George Bush coming from Kerry supporters and the left is something to behold. Facts mean nothing to them. They believe that Bush stole the election. Don't tell them that every single recount in Florida showed Bush to be the winner. Don't tell them that Bush lost as many as 18,000 votes when people turned around and went home in the Florida panhandle when the networks called the state for Bush an hour before the polls closed there. Never mind that all Gore had to do was to carry his own home state. And whatever you do don't try to convince them that the so-called "popular vote" has no legal meaning whatsoever in a presidential election. They believe that Bush stole the election, and that, by God, is that. Secondly .. this election is going to hinge on voter turnout, and the left is much better at herding people to the polls than the right. This is due to a basic personality difference between liberals and normal people. The nature of the left is one of collectivism. The dynamics of the left is one of group dynamics. The war on individuality has been waged by the left for well over 100 years, and the success is astounding. Liberals seldom think in terms of individuality. It's "the blacks" and "the children" and "the poor," and so on. They think in terms of majority rule -- the rule of the mob -- rather than individual rights. The common good is always foremost in their minds. People with this sort of "follow the crowd" collectivist mindset are much easier to stir to collective action, such as getting out there on November 2nd to vote, than are people who celebrate their individuality and independence. On election day you will see unions, the bastions of group mentality, sending vans and busses around to pick up voters and take them to the polls. You won't see that many right-leaning organizations rounding up voters in this manner. When Democrats yell "stampede!" liberals start running mindlessly. Conservatives and (especially) libertarians start looking around trying to figure out where the noise is coming from. When it comes to getting out the vote ... the left has the edge. If conservatives were as good at spurring their followers to action this election wouldn't even be close. DECONSTRUCTING A KERRY LIE I hope you're one of the loyal subscribers to The Weekly Standard. It's one of the finest weekly news magazines out there. The October 25th issue did an exemplary job of tearing apart yet another Kerry lie. On September 20th Kerry was at New York University where he delivered this comment:
Sorry. Not true. Kerry lied. Sherman Kent was the CIA official who actually carried the photos into de Gaulle's office. De Gaulle did not wave them off. To the contrary, he examined them closely. Secondly: The purpose of Acheson's trip was not to "build support." It was to inform. De Gaulle's biographer says that the very first thing de Gaulle said to Acheson was "I understand that you have not come to consult me, but to inform me." Acheson replied "that's correct." So much for Kerry's rendition of the meeting. The meeting simply didn't happen as Kerry said. Hopefully you're not surprised. Here's the kicker from the Weekly Standard story. De Gaulle expressed concerns that Kennedy might actually be trying too hard to cultivate European and world support for what he had to do with Fidel and the missiles. Let's see what Kerry would say about that one!
AND ANOTHER NEW WHOPPER FROM THE SOUFFL John Kerry has stepped in it again.
Remember Christmas in Cambodia? The ribbons and the medals? The Kennedy
conversation with de Gaulle I just told you about? Well now we have
another classic from The Poodle, but this time we have witnesses. Since you
won't hear much about this from the mainstream media, I'll regale you with the
latest whopper from The Souffle. AND IT'S THE REPUBLICANS WHO TRY TO CHEAT? What you're looking at here is the ballot from Cayahoga County, Ohio. Go ahead! Try to vote for Bush. If you follow the arrow you will punch Number 14. But if you read the ballot, you're supposed to punch Number 4. THE MISSING EXPLOSIVES You'll hear much in the news today about the International Atomic Energy Agency saying that about 300 tons of explosives have "gone missing" in Iraq. This, of course, is not good. Let me ask you this though. If you've already heard this story, tell me when you think these explosives disappeared. Last week? Last month? My guess is that you will believe that these explosives recently disappeared. Well ... you may well have the story wrong. The IAEA says that they were monitoring the explosives prior to the war. Now they're gone. The IAEA doesn't know when they disappeared. They can't say that Saddam didn't remove them before the American invasion. They can't say that Saddam's soldiers didn't move them to another location after the invasion began. They just don't know. The Kerry campaign will be sure to make a huge deal out of this today. They'll pin the disappearance squarely on President Bush. The facts don't support that, but what do the facts mean when you're trying to win an election. MORE SCARE TACTICS FROM THE LEFT SUGARCOATING ISLAMIC TERRORISM EIGHT MONTHS AND COUNTING It's been almost eight months since I challenged my listeners to come up with one single news story delivered on any Fox News Channel which illustrated a right-wing bias. Thus far the only responses I have had are from people who can't tell the difference between news and opinion. Sure, the pundits who appear on Fox have opinions, and they're biased. But they're discussing the news, not reporting it. When it comes to the actual reporting on Fox News, not one person has been able to rise to my challenge ... in eight months. Keep trying though ... who knows! Maybe you'll get lucky and come up with something?
READING ASSIGNMENTS You need to read this column from the Guardian of Great Britain. The writer talks of kicking President Bush in the nuts and wonders where Lee Harvey Oswald is now that we need him. He also calls bush a a lying, sniggering, drink-driving, selfish, reckless, ignorant, dangerous, backward, drooling, twitching, blinking, mouse-faced little cheat. He does get in a good slam on Kerry; says he looks like a "haunted tree." You can make the Guardian very happy by voting for Kerry. Is this whole O'Reilly sexual harassment bit a set up? Read this story ... then you be the judge. This does bring up the question as to whether or not agents of the left have targeted conservative radio talk show hosts. The only one who would survive would be the squeaky clean Sean Hannity. You can't imagine what an easy time they would have with me. So ... John Kerry says that he has a superior plan to win the war in Iraq. Super-reporter Bob Woodward submitted a list of 22 questions to Kerry about just how his policy would have differed from Bush. Kerry refused to answer the question ... but he campaign did say that if Kerry had decided to answer them his answers would have been strong and compelling. Isn't that just grand? Can you actually believe that "I'm not going to answer that question, but if I did my answer would be compelling!" would work with voters? Yeah ... as a matter of fact, I can. Democratic voters. Here's Woodward's story, complete with the 22 questions Kerry wouldn't answer. Everything you read in the mainstream media about Iraq is doom and gloom. Arthur Chrenkoff has been writing a series of articles detailing the good news from Iraq. Hopefully you've been reading them and sharing some of this with your left-leaning friends. Here's the latest two week's worth of good news from Iraq. Warning: Don't read this is you if you believe The Poodle's admonitions that Iraq is a "mess" and it's too late in the game for you to have your mind changed. Facts can be a troubling thing when you've already made up your mind. I think Victor Davis Hanson is one of the best pundits out there, and he says that there is a good chance that no matter what Kerry says or does in the final two weeks of this election - barring some major catastrophe in Iraq, a presidential gaffe, or massive voting irregularity - he will lose. A great read from Charles Krauthammer. He says that the only way Kerry would be able to get the Europe to help us in the Middle East is to cave in to Europe and the Arab world on Israel. In spite of this, the majority of America's Jewish vote will go to Kerry on November 2nd. Go figure. Kerry threatened, and Sinclair Broadcast Group caved. So much for freedom of the press. You need to be concerned -- no, you need to be deeply worried by the fact that the vast majority of Americans get their daily dose of news and information from agencies that are licensed to operate by the federal government. That's why Sinclair paid attention to Kerry's veiled threat Now here's a thought. This is the 9/11 election. It is the first presidential election since the Islamic terrorist attack of 9/11 and, accordingly, it will define America's response to the Islamic terrorist threat. Rosie O'Donnell spoke
at a get-out-the-vote rally for The Poodle
Saturday night in Florida, and hardly anyone showed up. Cher had
a similar "rally," but hardly anyone showed
up there either. Looks like nobody cares what they have to say. One more on the bandwagon. Jeff Jacoby writes about the "ignorant American voter." | ||
