TIME TO STEP FORWARD AND HELP THE CAUSE

As you know, I write a weekly (more or less) column for Townhall.com.  I was surprised to see one of those Townhall.com columns referenced in the nationally syndicated Mallard Fillmore cartoon strip last Friday.  Townhall.com is widely accepted as a virtual treasure trove of conservative thought and ideas by opinion makers, politicians, businessmen and ordinary citizens who check in every day to see who is saying what about whom.  Townhall.com is engaged in their Fall pledge drive, and I'm asking you to step forward and help with a few bucks.  Townhall.com pays a small fee for each one of my columns.  I donate that fee back to the cause.  Can you help out a bit too so that this website can continue to present it's valued content to the rest of the nation? I promise you that every dollar you donate causes another liberal to develop a sudden headache.   Click here to make a donation to the cause!

DRAFT?  NOT A CHANCE

Continuing their deep plunge into the abyss of political cluelessness, The Poodle's campaign has now decided to accuse George Bush of trying to reinstate the draft.  Really, is this the best they can do?  How about a little show of imagination here?  I'm known for my willingness to assist the clueless, so here are some suggestions for The Poodle's handlers.  Over the next 42 days they can make a series of statements to the media claiming that:

  • George Bush has a secret plan to destroy Social Security so that he can give more tax cuts to the wealthy.
  • George Bush has a secret plan to end Medicare.  Let nature take its course.
  • Bush wants senior citizens to die.  To hurry them along he will cut off their food supply.
  • George Bush has a secret plan to accelerate global warming.
  • George Bush wants the FCC to limit CBS newscasts to between 2:00 and 3:00 am.
  • George Bush wants to open an investigation into Ted Kennedy and Chappaquiddick.  (Come to think of it, that's not such a bad idea.  If Bush's National Guard service is fair game, let's seek the Truth about Ted.)
  • George Bush wants $2.50 a gallon gas to enrich his Texas oil buddies.
  • George Bush wants to keep black citizens away from the polls with the possible exception of Colin Powell, Condi Rice and Clarence Thomas.
  • George Bush will start another war.  He needs a war for each term. To save on transportation costs the next target will be Canada.  He will use sealing our borders as an excuse.

I'll shoot down all of those ideas as The Poodle brings them up.  For now, we'll deal with this "Bush will reinstitute the draft" bit.

Citing the war in Iraq, as well as other trouble spots around the world, The Souffle said yesterday that the draft could be reinstated if voters re-elect President Bush.  "If George Bush were to be re-elected, given the way he has gone about this war and given his avoidance of responsibility in North Korea and Iran and other places, is it possible? I can't tell you."  Wait!  Do we have a mini-flip flop here?  First Kerry says the draft will return under Bush, then he says "I can't tell you?"  And what's this bit about avoiding responsibility in North Korea?  Surely Kerry remembers that  it was the Clinton administration and Kerry's pal Jimmy Carter that bear direct responsibility for the situation in North Korea.

But back to the draft.  This is a favorite of the left...to scare people with this notion that somehow a draft could return.  No matter how many times the Pentagon says it's not happening, no matter how many times the president says it's not happening...they still like to bring it up.

There is absolutely no political will nor is there any support among the electorate for a reinstatement of the draft.  Short of an invasion of the United States by an outside aggressor (aside from illegal aliens or Islamic terrorists) people just wouldn't go for it.  It ain't gonna happen. Besides ... check out enlistment figures.  All branches of the armed forces are meeting their enlistment goals.  Draft?  Why?

Now here's a curious thing:  The Poodle made his "reinstitute the draft" charges at a campaign stop in Florida.  I'm sure that made those wizened citizens very concerned about their short term plans.  Golly!  What if they get drafted?

NOW HERE'S A THOUGHT

Somewhere, sometime over the past few weeks I ran across the following question:  "Do you ever wonder if the average Joe in ancient Rome knew he was witnessing the collapse of an empire?"  Let's just change the wording a bit.  Do you ever wonder if the average Joe in the United States knows that he is witnessing the collapse of a great Republic?

Probably not.

GOING FORWARD WITH TAX CUTS

Brace yourself...no, not for another hurricane...but for a barrage of liberal media stories bashing the extension of three middle-class tax cuts by Congress yesterday.  After all, given the "high cost" of the federal government, we cannot simply "afford it," right?  Wrong...it's your money.

Right in the article from the AP, it says "The tax breaks are estimated to cost the government $145.9 billion over 10 years."  So let me get this straight.  Somebody comes into your house every April 15th, points a gun at your head, and confiscates half your income (we'll include Social Security.)   When you plea with the government to take just a bit less of the money that you worked for and earned ... maybe just a percentage point less ... you're told that the government cannot "afford" it this year, and that it would "cost" the government too much.

You need to understand that big-government liberals believe that all wealth belongs to government.  No ... I'm not kidding.  That idea is really part of the core liberal ideology.  Not only all the wealth, but you as well.  The government owns you and your life, and it is only through the largess and the exemplary generosity of politicians that you are allowed to keep any of it.  You should be thankful you have what you have.  After all, given the high deficit spending of the government, you should feel guilty that you're not paying your fair share.

Yet another argument for the Fair Tax Plan.  No more income tax and no more IRS.  We can dream, can't we?

OUTRAGE OVER WHITES-ONLY REUNION

A lot of people are getting worked up over this high school reunion being held at Washington High School in a town in Maryland.  The situation is this: Graduates of a high school from the 40's, 50's and 60's are holding their reunion, and it's whites-only.  That's not nice, is it?  Of course, people do have that little right called freedom of assembly, so they can do whatever they want.

But wait...why do you suppose there aren't going to be any black folks at their high school reunion?  Because they're racists, right?  That's what all the media headlines are shouting.  It makes it sound like racism is on the rise in America!  It must be George W. Bush's fault!  But actually, there is an explanation.

It's a REUNION, folks!

As it turns out, the high school wasn't integrated until 1969.  The reason there will only be white people at the reunion is because only white people graduated from that high  school in the 40's, 50's and 60's.  It would be like a Catholic High School holding a reunion and someone being outraged because there weren't any Jews there.

Apparently leaders in the black community are saddened by this revolting development.  Maybe they should call off their rent-a-mob long enough to read the story more closely.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Atlanta area boy suspended for wearing multiple body piercings which are against school rules. Test your piercing sensitivity.

Another candidate for mother of the year found by our friend Psycho.

Ann Coulter checks in this week with her rundown of the Rathergate scandal...and points out that lying on the air is a longstanding tradition at C-BS.

Now that Russia is fighting its own war on terrorism, why is the rest of the world suddenly criticizing Putin?  Pat Buchanan says we should be doing the opposite, pursuing  closer ties with Russia.

Reality is starting to creep in down at The Souffle's campaign....they've pulled their advertising in four states: Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana and Missouri.  The pie is shrinking.

Is Cat Stevens a terrorist?  Those that were shocked at his being refused entry into the United States should read what Stephen Schwartz has to say.

Helen Thomas is defending Dan Rather and bashing President Bush.  Surprised?  I didn't think so. If she wasn't such a babe nobody would be paying attention anyway.

You've heard the question asked: what would have happened if Fox News had been the one to broadcast forged documents, instead of CBS?  Rupert Murdoch says Fox would have been crucified, and he's right.

The media loves to profess their admiration for Islamic terrorists by calling them "insurgents"....and now Reuters is being called on it.  Good.

Here's the new Bush ad criticizing The Poodle you've heard so much about.  Priceless.

If this doesn't tell you your time has come, nothing will.  A woman was killed by 7-foot falling cross.

Even the maker of Twinkies couldn't borrow their way to prosperity.  Don't they know only the government can do that?

Turns out what the source for the forged documents CBS used may have done was a crime.  William Safire discovered the law.

Today in Professor Mike Adams' Townhall column he looks at a book called "Intellectual Morons," and highlights a prominent example.

Was what happened to Dan Rather an anomaly or a sign of the times?  Larry Elder examines the issue, highlighted by an excellent letter from a reader.

The Kerry campaign chaos continues....and Robert Novak says the candidate has only himself to blame.

Pretend you are the owner of a company.  Somebody applies for a job with you and their resume has a 20-year gap in it.  Wouldn't you ask questions?  Thomas Sowell wonders why this doesn't seem to apply to The Poodle.

Government schools and government teachers absolutely hate home schooling.  Michelle Malkin talks about the latest controversy involving a mock terrorism drill at a public school.

I've heard of being dumped by phone or email, but via PowerPoint?
