TONIGHT'S ORLANDO FAIRTAX BOOK SIGNING

Tonight I will be at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore at 2418 East Colonial Drive in Orlando, Florida. The short talk and book signing begins at 7:30. Royal will be with me to keep the crowd entertained. See you there!

TUESDAY QUICK NOTES

The NCAA has gone insane. Now this august group has determined that the use of any "Native American" nickname for a sports team cannot be used in an NCAA championship game. That would include the Florida State Seminoles or any other team with an Indian name. The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame? That would be OK. Idiocy.

That woman who is camped outside of Bush's Crawford, Texas resident? You know, the woman who lost a son in Iraq and is now insisting on a (second) meeting with Bush? You'll hear more about this particular woman today on the Boortz Show. Seems she's having a bit of a problem making up her mind. The female prerogative.

Harry Belafonte has chimed in again on race in America. Belafonte says that black members of the Bush Administration are "black tyrants." Condi Rice ... Black Tyrant. I guess the same went for Colin Powell. Wow! That Harry Belafonte is some amazing race whore, isn't he?

And that brings us to Greg Mathis. You know Greg, don't you? He's the Mathis of "The Judge Mathis Show. Mathis says that Republican Party leaders are "thieves" who need to be locked up. It's that same old song --- they "stole" the 2000 election. Another race pimp heard from.

FAIRTAX NOTES

In Tampa, Florida for a book signing last night, hosted by my Tampa affiliate 1040 WWBA. Royal was along to keep me out of trouble. As we drove to the Barnes & Noble the Tampa skies got dark ... real dark .. and then opened up. Lightning everywhere, and raining like the proverbial cow and the flat rock. Naturally, I started wondering if anyone would show up in this weather. Well ... there was no need to worry. They were there, by the hundreds, and as with our other signings, they were buying multiple copies of The FairTax Book.

There is a hunger out there for tax reform. The American people are tired of the present system that punishes the behavior we want most out of our fellow citizens, and rewards the behavior we don't want. The FairTax has captured the imagination of hundreds of thousands. If there are two people in America who like the FairTax idea for every FairTax volunteer, than number is in the millions.

Criticisms? You bet! As this idea gains steam, and as the book gains notoriety, the critics are taking their shots. Everywhere we look, and that includes the reviews page on Amazon.com, the criticisms seem to fall into two areas. 1. The real sales tax rate will be 30%, not 23%. 2. The stated sales tax rate can't replace all of the revenue the federal government currently takes in with the income tax.

OK ... let's take you right to the Fairtax.org website. Here you will find an excellent and comprehensive list of Frequently Asked Questions. This oft-heard criticism as to the sales tax rate is answered in FAQ No. 47. (You may have to scroll up a bit to see No. 47). Simply stated ... the FairTax is quoted as an "inclusive" tax because that is the way income taxes are quoted. The FairTax will replace the income tax, so quote them the same way. If your income tax bracket is 25% and you earn $100, you will pay $25 in income tax. If the sales tax rate is 23% and you spend $100, you pay $23 in sales tax. Now ... let's quote both taxes on an "exclusive" basis. Using the excusive basis calculation your income tax rate becomes 33.3% and your sales tax rate becomes 30%. Either way, you're paying $25 out of $100 in income taxes, or 25% what you earned, and $23 out of the $100 you spent, or 23%. So --- to the critics, and that includes David Brock, if you're going to quote the FairTax rate on an exclusive basis, then why don't you start quoting the income tax it will replace the same way? Well --- I think I know why. The income tax is a good class warfare tool. It can be used to buy votes for leftist Democrats. So you quote the income tax rate in the most favorable possible terms. You don't like the FairTax because it treats every American exactly the same, and because it would be a completely ineffective class warfare tool ... so you quote the FairTax rate in the most negative possible terms. All we ask is that you show consistency. Pick your terms, exclusive or inclusive, and use that method when quoting both tax rates.

Now ... as for the charge that the FairTax can't replace the revenue from the taxes that eliminated ... wrong again. Almost $20 million was spent on economic and social research, and that research shows that the 23% inclusive sales tax rate would be revenue neutral. Go to the FAQs for more information on this critique also. If you really pay attention to the critics on this issue you'll see that most of them create a set of exclusions to the FairTax and then say that the rate won't be revenue neutral. H.R. 25, the FairTax bill is revenue neutral, as written. Don't go out there and change the terms to support your criticisms.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO CAN'T COME TO A BOOK SIGNING

Congressman Linder and I will be signing a few thousand book plates for The FairTax Book. You will be able to remove the backing and place these autographed book plates into your copy of The FairTax Book. In a day or so we'll tell you can get one of these labels. In the meantime, save your receipt. This will give those of you who ordered from Amazon.com because your local bookstore has already run out of copies of The FairTax Book a chance to get autographed copies also.

ANGRY MOM TELLS TWO STORIES

Yesterday I told you about the story of Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a brave soldier who gave his life last year in the line of duty in Iraq. She has been quite upset about this, and has turned into a peace activist. Fine.

So she decided that she would camp out at George Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas this week. She has started a political movement and an organization, demanding to speak with the president. She wants to know why George W. Bush "killed her son." Never mind the fact that her son was killed by Islamic terrorists in Sadr City.

But now that Mrs. Sheehan has put herself out there, people have begun doing a little research. Enter the Drudge Report. (Say what you will, but he's usually right. And first, too.) It seems not only has Mrs. Sheehan already met with George Bush, but there are two stories about what took place. The story she's currently telling, that she met with him and he was mean and indifferent to her, directly contradicts the story she told after that meeting took place last year. Just take a look at what she told a reporter then:

"'I now know he's sincere about wanting freedom for the Iraqis. I know he's sorry and feels some pain for our loss. And I know he's a man of faith." She also talked about how her life briefly returned to normal: "That was the gift the president gave us, the gift of happiness, of being together."

Hmm...now let's flash-forward to the present day, where she's singing a different tune:

"Every time we tried to talk about Casey and how much we missed him, he would change the subject. And he acted like it was a party."

Whatever. Go home, Mrs. Sheehan. You're the one dishonoring your son's memory.

OIL FOR FOOD ARREST

Well it's about time. The federal prosecutor who is looking into the Oil-For-Food rip-off at the United Nations handed down his first criminal charges yesterday. And just who is the first customer?

Alexander Yakovlev, a Russian procurement officer. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering. He faces up to 60 years in prison. He's accused of trying to solicit bribes. This is the very tiny tip of a very huge iceberg.

My prediction? Once all the dust settles, you're going to find that all of the members on the UN Security Council that were opposed to the invasion of Iraq were doing so because their allegiance was bought and paid for by Saddam Hussein, with money stolen from the Iraqi people.

It may take years to get to the truth, but it will come, and when it does, it will be sweet. Will Kofi Annan still be around then? Stay tuned.

HARRY BELAFONTE'S RACISM

President Bush has, throughout his administration, appointed many black folks to many prominent positions. It was George W. Bush that nominated the first black secretary of state. It was also this president that nominated the first black female secretary of state. There are also other people of color in the administration.

Naturally, those on the leftist fringe are steamed about this. To them, black Republicans are "sellouts" or "Uncle Toms." Unless you're a liberal Democrat, equal opportunity and advancement and civil rights and all of that doesn't matter. So knowing that, today we have a story from Harry Belafonte, the singer. He's quite upset that there are black people working for George Bush. Speaking at a civil rights march Saturday in Atlanta, he called them "black tyrants."

That says it all. Now we know Harry Belafonte is a racist. The so-called civil rights establishment doesn't care one bit about civil rights. It's all about bashing George Bush and advancing the cause of victimhood.

Also, at the same rally, many people spoke, including prominent Democrats who still insist that the president stole the last two elections. Maxine Waters, Charlie Rangel and John Conyers were all there with their tinfoil hats on.

And the Democratic Party still wonders why it's out of power.

JACKSON JURORS CASH IN

When the Michael Jackson jury decided to vote to acquit someone that many of the jurors acknowledged was probably a child molester, justice was not served. Furthermore, they will bear full responsibility when Jacko attacks his next victim, knowing full well that they could have handed down a verdict putting The Freak behind bars where he belongs.

Now the story gets even sicker. Two of the jurors have decided to cash in. They're writing books and want to become full-on media whores to promote their works. And just what is the hook they're using to get people to buy their books? It wouldn't be enough to write a book about their experiences in the jury room, and how they arrived at their verdict. Nah. That would be boring.

No...they've decided that they've changed their minds. They think Jackson is guilty. The two people are Ray Hultman and Eleanor Cook. When asked if she thought the other jurors would be angry with her for changing her stance, Cook said "They can be as angry as they want to. They ought to be ashamed. They're the ones that let a pedophile go."

Nope. It was you, Mrs. Cook and your fellow author Mr. Hultman who let Michael Jackson waltz out of that courtroom and into the bedroom of another child who will become his next victim.

Hope you two can sleep at night.

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

What could be more peaceful than settin' out on the porch on a warm summer evening listening to the gentle music of windchimes. No, we're not tired of the Redneck Scrap Book yet. And judging from how many views it gets, neither are you.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Here's an article to read if you are buying a home. I've known this woman for 14 years ... and she's really taken it on the chin from this particular developer.  Know who you're dealing with.  Check references ... and get an inspection.  Owning your own home is great.  Owning a home that might slide down a hill in the middle of the night while you and your child are asleep ... not so great.

Oil hit $64 a barrel today...a record.  What's not a record is the average price at the pump.  Still nowhere near the $3.08 a gallon from March of 1981.

Saddam Hussein's family has fired his defense team even before his trial can get started.  Perhaps he's going to defend himself.  Now that would be entertaining.

Iran has started its nuclear program back up, with uranium conversion ongoing.  Doesn't seem too prudent to allow a country to possess nuclear weapons that has as its stated goal your destruction.

Democrats always talk about how we're losing the war in Iraq...but Christopher Hitchens has an interesting question.  Does the left actually want us to lose?

Those who advocate multiculturalism are seeing what happens right now in Great Britain when those policies are instituted.  Michael Barone says Tony Blair seems to have changed his tune on the subject.

Today in his ongoing sexual harassment case against Appalachian State University, Professor Mike Adams offers to settle the case in a letter to the university.  Priceless.

Should those nominated to serve as justices on the U.S. Supreme Court be questioned about their religious beliefs?  David Limbaugh says the real issue isn't religion, but the proper role of the courts.

Every August 6th, Thomas Sowell notes the hand wringing that goes on over the decision to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  He correctly points out that vastly more people were killed with conventional bombs.

Congress is going to be returning from the summer break and will take up the issue of the death tax and also personal retirement accounts.  Jack Kemp says now is the time for the White House to start pushing a very specific agenda.

The Investor's Business Daily has a nice little profile on CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations and their many links to terrorism.  You won't hear about this in the mainstream media.

Heather's Reading Assignments:

New deterrentsused against paparazzi.

Stupid is as stupid does. FDIC not excluded.

Every group offends someone, so lets just get rid of all mascots.

More wasteful government spending: Ban the man-eating fish now!

This is what happens when we play with science ... we get a human-head fish.

Now let's meet George Jetson, or at least drive like him.(seats can even face different directions)

Broccoli flavored seaweed. Yum... does it get any better than this? God I hope so!

WHAT THE HECK ARE THOSE POINTY HAND THINGS?
