CARE-A-THON

Thank you to everyone who donated to News/Talk 750 WSB's annual Care-A-Thon during our show yesterday. The generosity of Boortz Show listeners never ceases to amaze us. You people are the best! The Neal Boortz Show is broadcasting live from the AFLAC Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for one more day. Let's make it count! There are some photos of The Boortz Show in the Care-a-thon gallery.

I'VE BEEN SOMEWHAT OF A SLACKARD

Sorry, my friends.  I know that I've been somewhat of a slackard when it comes to postings on Nealz Nuze.  Thank goodness I have people like Bryan Ganey and the winsome Web Wench who think enough like me that they can cruise through the Internet and post some program notes to get me going every day.  The routine has been exhausting, but more fun than I imagined it would be.  Here's how the days have been going:

  1. Arise
  2. Eat
  3. Do the show from an unfamiliar studio
  4. Eat
  5. Get on an airplane and fly to a different city.
  6. Eat
  7. Sign books for an incredible crowd of people who are sick and tired of our present tax system.
  8. Decaf
  9. Call home to say that everything is going just super!
  10. Sleep
  11. Arise
  12. Do it all over again

Last night we just might have had our best turnout ever.  Possibly as many as 700+ people turned out at a local Barnes & Noble for to have Congressman Linder and I sign their books.  The sleeping part went well after that.

Now ... for those program notes from my staff that I'm so thankful for.

CINDY BAILS OUT

Well, at long last, Cindy Sheehan has left Crawford, Texas. It doesn't matter if she's still there or not, the media has now officially anointed her the face of the anti-Iraq war movement. Cindy says she is going to be at her ailing mother's side...but she says she'll be back. A couple things on this:

1.) Will she come back? And if she doesn't, will anyone call her on it? Not a chance...the media has already elevated Saint Cindy to official Bush-bashing icon status.

2.) Will she follow through on her promise to follow Bush wherever he goes...including back to Washington? I doubt it...she's gotten all the attention she wants....what further purpose would be served by protesting anymore?

Cindy will probably continue protesting from the comfort of a television studio somewhere. And you can expect the leftist media to continue to lap up her nonsense, completely unchallenged. But at least we won't have to hear her daily pontifications from Crawford, Texas anymore.

IRAQ NOTHING LIKE VIETNAM

Alleged "Republican" (in name only) Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska is wringing his hands again. Never really a supporter of George Bush or the war in Iraq, Hagel has been preaching doom and gloom at every turn and to anyone who will listen. As a matter of fact, he sounds just like a Democrat. Let's take a look at his latest proclamations, shall we?

The good senator says the United States is getting bogged down in Iraq, and the more time that passes, the more the conflict starts to resemble the Vietnam war. Chuck also tells us that the whole effort is doomed to failure, complaining: "The longer we stay in Iraq, the more similarities will start to develop, meaning essentially that we are getting more and more bogged down, taking more and more casualties, more and more heated dissension and debate in the United States." Really...does he mean that everybody has to be on board with the war for it to be successful? There are always people protesting any war.

But we'll play along for a minute here and do the comparison with Vietnam. Here's a brief overview of what we know about the war in Iraq so far:

--The war has been going on for 2 1/2 years.
--The government was overthrown, Saddam Hussein is sitting in prison.
--Control was handed over to the new Iraqi government early, elections were held and a new Constitution is being drawn up.
--We won.
--In 2 1/2 years, there have been just under 2,000 casualties...1,861.
--The war is being fought with an all-volunteer force.

Now, for the sake of comparison, and for the benefit of people like Chuck Hagel whose memory is a bit rusty, here are some Vietnam War facts:

--The conflict lasted, depending on how you look at it, 10-20 years.
--The ultimate result was the fall of South Vietnam to the communists.
--We lost.
--There were some 58,000 casualties.
--The war was fought with the presence of a draft.

Yeah...Iraq is just like Vietnam...not. It's interesting how the pro-appeaser defeatists want to throw in the towel just because some Islamic terrorists don't like democracy and the rule of law.

ROBERTS THIS, ROBERTS THAT

We're still more than 2 weeks away from the start of Supreme Court nominee John Roberts' confirmation hearings on September 6, and already the media is trumpeting an almost-daily headline about his writings. Are they talking about the decisions he has made as a judge? Or arguments he has made while in front of the Supreme Court? Nope.

They're going all the way back to when he was a White House lawyer in the Reagan administration. We're talking more than 20 years ago. The headlines all scream that "Roberts criticized efforts to fight gender discrimination" and "Roberts opposed abortion" and on and on. By the time the media gets done with him, we'll have headlines calling John Roberts the Antichrist who goes around beating up little old ladies.

If all they have on him is what he wrote as a kid two decades ago, he'll sail to confirmation. How many of us still believe the same things we did twenty years ago?

Intern Heather's Corner: Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

Do you ever just need to forget yourself in order to feel little more than insignificant?

We all think of pleasing ourselves when we are down and out. We aren't compelled to look beyond our own shadow. Sometimes we just need a good cry to realize what is most important to us. Tiny things can set us off, but are those things important? Are they really?

And then, you do something that you may not have even put much time into, and it makes you really re-examine how dramatic those 'problems' really are?

I have been juggling with which job to take: Orlando WDBO or Atlanta WSB; just the mere fact that I have a choice at all makes me very fortunate. I have been frustrated with my car that will probably only get me back to Orlando, but I have one and I found some change for a few gallons of gas to get me there. I am heartbroken that I will be leaving some friends that have become very dear to me, but I have the opportunity to go home to my old friends.

I visited the Aflac cancer and blood disorders center Care-a-Thon on Thursday. I didn't break down until I left. All of the sudden heading back to my Clark-smart car, I started thinking about Taylor and how she has no idea that this wasn't just 'normal' and that other kids don't have to worry about this stuff. This is the thing that will shape her life, when she recovers and she thinks back to having been 4 years old; she will only be able to think of this hospital. That's not what I was concerned with at 4. It was completely second nature for her to turn around the right way when her IV started to get twisted around her.

It really puts things into perspective. All of the sudden the things I thought were my biggest issues seemed minute to that of this 4 year olds problems. Maybe the way for each of us to over-come our anxieties, is to visit a place where a choice so trivial would mean the world to the one who gets to make it. I'm not ungrateful for anything, quite the opposite; I'm extremely fortunate and make a point to restart everyday over, especially Mondays. After all, it is a brand new day and I can start all over if things weren't so great the day before. Experiences like today do not happen often and it has made me even more grateful than I was before. Though it made me tear-up it also made me look forward to the changes that seem so drastic to me right now.

If you are interested, donate to the Care-a-Thon , every donation will go directly to helping children who could otherwise not afford treatment by providing research, volunteers, and some of the worlds best doctors.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

John McCain has jumped on the global warming bandwagon.
What's next?  Urging President Bush to sign the disastrous Kyoto agreement?

Hollywood has taken to the streets in support of Cindy Sheehan.  Will they still support her cause, even though she's not there anymore?

"Insurgents" (Islamic terrorists) in Iraq are intimidating voters.  Will American liberals be as upset about this as they are about the mythical "disenfranchisement" of minorities in this country?  Somehow I doubt it.

You know how Cindy Sheehan said she wasn't going to pay any taxes?  The IRS isn't commenting, but you can bet they're not too happy.  Get ready for an audit, Cindy.  You should have kept your mouth shut.

You know that homeless man or woman at the end of the highway with the little sign saying they've fallen on hard times and a tin cup? Business is good....they're raking in millions.  Not bad for just standing there.

If Fox News is supposedly a pro-Republican network with a right wing slant, you'd think they'd be changing a few minds.  A new study says otherwise.

I know that this will break your heart and cause sympathy to just pour out:  the underworked French can't afford their paid vacations.  Poor babies. Here's a Euro...call somebody who cares.

Byron York has an excellent point.
He says the protesters down at Crawford, Texas are not only opposing the war in Iraq, but they've been in opposition to every other war.

The mainstream media continues to prop up Cindy Sheehan's image as a saint.  The Media Research Center has a full report.

In Professor Mike Adams' latest column, he presents the response to a letter he wrote to the administration at the University of North Carolina-Asheville.  Amusing as always.

Intern Heather's Reading Assignments:

Not that I support any 'adult' websites, but this is just one step closer to government control over something they have no business trying to regulate.

This sounds like it is right out of a horror flick. Cave divers beware!

Synthetically living molecules. These guys have far too much time on their hands.

So this is why babies are being profiled at airports. Who knew electronic diapers would malfunction?

Mexican drug dealer not only lost his lotto winnings but now must spend 20+ years in jail for trafficking cocaine. It seems as if he wouldn't need to play the lottery and I really don't feel bad that he is locked up.

Human trafficker only makes $5000 or the $10,000 per person since they never actually made it to the land.

Morning Sickness: This is what happens if you are not specific as to how science may use your body.
