When Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean went on the radio the other day and said the war in Iraq wasn't winnable, he handed the Republican Party a Christmas gift (oops...a "Holiday Gift") like no other. Here you had the head of the party clearly outlining the Democratic vision in the war on terror: cut and run. Surrender. Give in to the Islamic terrorists. Turn Iraq over to Zarqawi. And so now Republicans are cashing in. The RNC is going to begin providing an ad to its state parties that shows Dean waving a white flag. What's been released so far looks particularly effective, because it's true. Said one Democratic operative quoted by Drudge: "This is way over the top but we have no one to blame but Dean, Kerry and others who continue to pander to the anti-war activists within our party." Right. The Democrats see their salvation in pandering to their most extreme leftist elements .... and it's not working for them. Howard Dean says his comments are being taken out of context. But how? Fox News played all of his comments yesterday from that radio show where he did the interview...and he did indeed say that the war wasn't winnable. There's a nice morale booster for all 160,000 troops in Iraq that are celebrating the holidays away from their families. After Katrina, gas prices, Scooter Libby and all that, the Democrats were clinking their wine glasses and declaring the House and Senate was theirs in '06. At the rate they're going, unless they shut their mouths soon about the war, the ship is going to sink even further. Leaders of more than 50 Muslim countries met in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and
promised to fight Islamic extremism. [Organization
of the Islamic Summit] They say they're going to reform
textbooks, restrict religious edicts and crack down on terrorism financing.
It sounds nice, but I don't think we should hold our breath on this one. So
what's behind the lip service? Two things. One, the bombing by Al-Qaeda in Jordan last month. Seems King Abdullah found that one a little too close for comfort. So he's pushing to combat Islamic extremism. Perhaps now that these countries are experiencing a little Islamic terrorism on their own, they'll do something about it. But the second reason you're hearing a different tone from the Middle East is Iraq. Despite what they may see on Al-Jazeera and read in the anti-American international media, these thugs see what happened to Saddam Hussein. He's sitting in a cage in jail, evidently wearing the same pair of underwear for a week. Not good. They know that if they don't fall in line on cracking down on terrorism, that George W. Bush just might be coming for them. That's what Khadafi thought. All of this sounds good, but things will be right back to business as usual soon enough. Islam remains a violent religion, and those in charge will continue to look the other way when it comes to terrorism and killing Americans. It's just the order of things over there. Speaking of Islamic dictatorships, the president of Iran is once again speaking his mind. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said yesterday that he doubted the Holocaust took place and that Israel should be moved to Europe. That's at least a step up from wanting to destroy it. Kofi Annan condemned the statements, which may be a first. This in addition to the cancellation of his trip to Tehran after Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he wanted to wipe Israel off the map. Now given Iran's desire to get rid of Israel, and that regime's previous call for the destruction of the United States, you have to ask yourself a question. The U.N. says Iran could be two months from having a nuclear weapon. Should we let them have nukes? Democrats probably see no problem with that ... but it doesn't sound all that good to me. But guess what is being done about it: absolutely nothing. Iran will soon have a nuclear warhead....and the world will have stood by and let it happen. A simple series of bombing runs would wipe out Iran's nuclear reactors....so what are we waiting for?
New routine ... watching Anderson Cooper while I'm sweating out my morning Ellipse gig. Well, this morning the Anderson Cooper story was all about that airplane that skidded off the runway in Chicago. I switched to the local news. Well .. there you were. Apartment fires. Not there's something that's going to affect my life. Then they showed a live shot of a reporter 100 miles outside of Atlanta. We got to see him brush his gloved hand across some grass to show us that there was no frost up yonder. Wonderful, I can't tell you how that changed my day. They they had a report on the Chicago incident. Again, an airplane skidded off the runway. Not good. The reporter says "incredibly, not anyone on the airplane was killed." Incredibly? Then there was the weather. I'm interested in the weekend weather because I'm eager to get out and do a little more learnin' on the new motorcycle. Three weathercasts go by, each one ending with "weekend weather in a few minutes." Finally I changed to the Weather Channel. No apartment fires. Time for a shower.
Some Atlanta resident saw someone at one of our rapid transit (MARTA) stations having a bit of a problem with a token dispenser. So, he walked up and sold the man a spare MARTA token he had in his pocket. He was arrested. Handcuffed, held for two hours, and given a citation ... for selling a MARTA token. Whose MARTA token was it? Well it belonged to the man who sold it ... but apparently that's illegal. So .. handcuffs and the denial of your liberty for two hours. If you're traveling to Atlanta .. beware. Your property may not be your property. Try to sell it, and you could end up in handcuffs.
The UN has a little annual celebration ... and yesterday was the day. It was the annual celebration of UN solidarity with the Palestinian people. Kofi was there .... quite a deal! And there on the stage, flanking Kofi Annan, was the Palestinian flag and the UN Flag. Behind Kofi the Korrupt was a map of Palestine! Small problem though. The map of Palestine included Israel. Israel wasn't shown. It was gone. Wiped, shall we say, off the face of this UN map. OK .. a question. A couple of questions. Democrats tend to support the UN, and Republicans tend to oppose the policies of the UN, right? Right! The UN is and has traditionally been hostile to Israel, right? Right again! Jews are somewhat fond of Israel, right? Yup! And Jews overwhelmingly vote for Democrats, right? Right again! OK ... now would someone please explain all this to me? Will a politically weakened California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger cave in and grant clemency to Stanley Williams, or will Tookie be terminated? We'll find out between now and Tuesday whether or not the 4 people he killed will get justice. The housing market is still red-hot, but the media is convinced the bubble is going to burst and 800,000 people will be out of work. Never underestimate the media's appetite for bad news, particularly with a Republican in the Oval Office. The press is now concerned that the poor aren't getting enough help under the Medicare prescription drug plan. Of course, nothing short of socialized medicine with Uncle Sam running the entire show would be good enough for them. This is unfortunate...looks like the Fox News Channel bowed to political correctness when they were running coverage of the riots in France. They correctly called them "Muslim Riots," but changed their tune when a Saudi prince complained. Oh well. I haven't had my call from the Saudi Prince yet ... so they were Muslim Riots. The fallout from the Kelo vs. New London, Connecticut decision continues. Remember that guy that wants to take Supreme Court Justice David Souter's house through eminent domain and build a bed and breakfast? He hasn't given up. Charles Krauthammer has just the thing for Saddam Hussein's trial. He says because of the dictator's antics, it's time to put him in a booth, along the lines of Adolf Eichmann. Tom DeLay is slowly beating the rap from partisan prosecutor Ronnie Earle. But as Ann Coulter tells us, the media continues to spin it as bad news for DeLay. Pat Buchanan says there's a defining moment coming next year in the war in Iraq...one that he compares to the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam war. When more troops are needed, will George Bush send them? Interesting question. Thanks to their calls for surrender in Iraq, the Democrats have boxed themselves in politically, and have nowhere to go. David Limbaugh still says the left can't afford to say what they really think. What a story. How the "fat fingered syndrome" cost a trading company nearly $200 million. The trader was Japanese, as was the trading company. Waiting for the other shoe to drop. What if so many Democrats and leftist had one of their fondest wishes come true ... what if Saddam Hussein were still in power? | ||
