NEAL'S OUT

Neal is out rubbing elbows with high-powered political types Thursday and Friday. He'll be back Monday so tune in for all the details. Meanwhile, the staff will give you a little bit of Nuze.

HISTORIC VOTE

Right now, Iraqis are going to the polls en masse (which means "all at once" for you clueless government school types,) to elect a new parliament.  275 freely elected representatives will be seated to select the President, Prime Minister, the Cabinet and so on.  This is nothing short of a miraculous time in the history of the Middle East.  The good news is starting to spread throughout the media...there have been very few incidents.

So what does this mean? This means that as we wind up the third year since the American liberation of Iraq, things are moving along just fine.  Once the election takes place and the new government is in place, we can start to leave.  Sometime next year, the troops will start to come home.  Expect George Bush's poll numbers, already on the rise, to increase further.  This will infuriate the media and the Democrats.  Why?

Because the left is invested in defeat in Iraq.  They want us to cut and run, no matter what the chance for success is there.  If democracy in Iraq succeeds, then that's good news for George W. Bush and by extension, the Republican Congress, and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid can't have that.

If the election concludes without many problems, expect the media and the left to be skeptical.  They'll tell us how much work is ahead and start doing the political backstroke on their 'cut and run' statements.  Once Americans start to see the faces and purple fingers of Iraqis tasting liberty for the first time, then they'll start to realize the war has been worth it.

Then, of course, Democrats will revert to their original position, which was being for the war.  That is, before they were against it.

BUSH COMES OUT SWINGING

Finally it seems the president is getting some good political advice.  In his fourth speech yesterday on Iraq, Bush laid it out the situation in Iraq.  To summarize, he said:

1.) The intelligence turned out to be wrong, but who cares because removing Saddam Hussein was still necessary.  Exactly right.  Remember that Saddam Hussein defied the United Nations for 12 years and that it was the policy of the United States to change the regime in Iraq throughout both Democratic and Republican administrations.  That WMD was the sole reason for taking out Saddam is a revisionist fantasy of the left.

2.) Saddam was a threat to the American people.  That's right...Saddam Hussein was harboring terrorists, financing suicide bombers and had the capability and the means to produce and sell nuclear weapons.  These are facts.

Immediately following Bush's speech, military bashing Congressman John Al-Murtha began his tirade: "We've got nation building by the U.S. military, and that's not a mission for the U.S. military.  I've said this over and over again: They're not good at nation building. You've given them a mission which they cannot carry out. They do the best they can, but they can't do it."  More music to Zarqawi's ears.  He must be using Murtha's press conferences to recruit new Islamic terrorists by now.

I am sure our fighting men and women in Iraq appreciate the vote of confidence by the Democrats.  But Bush is on the right track here.  Put the left on the defensive as much as possible, and keep hammering the facts.

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

If you have recently purchased a new operating system for your computer (or about 10 years ago, but hey, it's still funny!) then here's how to make sure you didn't end up with the Alabama version by mistake. More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

With so many people being indicted these days, Ann Coulter is starting to feel a little jealous.  Why can't she be indicted?  Won't someone arrest Ann Coulter?

Robert Novak says President Bush knows who leaked Valerie Plame's name.  Who cares?  Nobody has been prosecuted for leaking her name, so what does it matter?  Just another way for the media to keep the story going.

The House has renewed the Patriot Act.  This means one thing: expect the left-leaning Senate to kill it.  The Democrats and the Rinos have the votes to hand Islamic killers a victory.

The anti-Christmas jihad continues....this time two federally-subsidized housing facilities have banned Christmas.  Will they also ban Kwanzaa displays?  I doubt it.

Perky Katie Couric could be on her way to a huge payday as anchorette at the CBS Evening News.  They're reportedly offering her $60 million over 5 years to do the gig. Not bad!

Senate Democrats who don't want to win the war in Iraq are crazy, says Bill Kristol.  He says the American people root for success.  Right...but the left isn't rooting for American success...they're rooting for Zarqawi.

Another victory for the Islamic terrorists around the world...the House is endorsing John McCain's torture ban.  Congratulations...more Americans are going to die so politicians can say they banned torture.  Feels good, doesn't it?

Hillary will cruise to reelection in New York next year and is sitting pretty for the 2008 Democratic nomination.  But Tom Bevan says trouble lies ahead due to her position on the war in Iraq.

George Will hits the nail on the head....the modern environmentalist movement is really just a cover for collectivism.  He points to the ridiculous opposition to drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Is Karl Rove about to be indicted in the Valerie Plame case? National Review's Byron York takes a closer look...and goes over the facts again, picking up on anything that may have been missed.

Stanley 'Tookie' Williams may finally be pushing up daisies, but Larry Elder decides to take a look at his life....and his supposed "redemption."  Why did so many people want Tookie to live?  Read on to find out.
