WIRETAPPING NOTHING NEW

Whether you agree with the reasons George W. Bush gave for ordering secret wiretaps on American citizens without a warrant or not, you may be surprised to learn something: it's nothing new. That's right...let's see if the mainstream media covers this one fairly. Yeah ... I can see you folks holding your breath out there. Past presidents, both Republican and Democrat, have engaged in the same exact warrantless wiretapping that Bush admits to doing.

Let's look at a few examples, shall we? Drudge posted some examples....complete with direct evidence showing the Executive Orders. First up, Bill Clinton...the left's favorite president. Here's a quote from February 9, 1995: "The Attorney General is authorized to approve physical searches, without a court order." Oh my! Searching your home...without a court order. Which is worse...listening to your phone calls, or kicking in your door and going through your personal belongings? I wonder of Congressman John Lewis contemplated calling for Clinton's impeachment over that one? Somehow, I doubt it.

But the Clinton administration didn't stop there....instead of having to actually search your house...how about infrared scanning of it? According to a Clinton Justice Department official, Clinton's authority included "places where you wouldn't find or would be unlikely to find information involving a U.S. citizen... would allow the government to use classified electronic surveillance techniques, such as infrared sensors to observe people inside their homes, without a court order." Such an invasion of privacy! Where was the howling about our civil rights 10 years ago? By the way ... do you have any understanding what they could discover with infrared scanning? How about two hot intertwined bodies? Oh well, moving on ......

The answer, of course, is simple. The mainstream media gave Clinton a pass...one they're not giving to Bush. If there is a Democrat in the Oval Office...all is well and he can do no wrong. But since it's a Republican...well, that's different. They have to nail him to the wall.

Oh..and Jimmy Carter did the same thing. He signed an executive order in 1979 saying the Attorney General had the power to do electronic surveillance without a warrant. Will we hear about these past examples from the mainstream media? You're not still holding your breath, are you?

THANKS FOR NOTHING, GERMANY

Our friends in Germany have proven they are still charter members of the Axis of Weasels. Last week, German officials released Islamic terrorist Mohammad Ali Hamadi. You may remember him...he was captured and given a life sentence for hijacking a TWA airplane 20 years ago and murdering U.S. Navy diver Robert Dean Stethem and throwing his beaten body onto a Beirut runway.

It turns out a life sentence in Germany doesn't really run for the rest of your life. You're eligible for parole after 15 years. Hamadi was convicted in 1989 and he got credit for 2 years time served. So he was released. Nice going, Germany.

There may be some good news....the U.S. Government seems to have gotten this Islamic terrorist detained in Beirut...and we might get our hands on him. The goal is to try the bastard in the U.S. for what he did. Maybe Lebanon will throw a bag over his head and send him to one of our secret prisons for us.

As for Germany....we shouldn't be surprised. After all, membership in the Axis of Weasels means something.

JOHNNY TALIBAN WANTS OUT

Here's a name we haven't heard in awhile. John Walker Lindh...the 'American Taliban'...the kid from California that was captured in 2001 fighting for Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan...wants to be released. If you remember, he was given a relatively light 20-year sentence for his actions.

But now he wants out. They want President Bush to commute his sentence. The odds of that are about oh...slim and none. Little Johnny Walker is lucky he wasn't lined up against a wall and shot. You know, that's what they used to do a long time ago to people who committed treason.

And make no mistake, Walker committed treason. This was right after 9/11...and we were fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan. Yet there he was...the American Taliban...aiding the enemy. The 20-year sentence he got was a slap on the wrist compared to what he should've received.

Perhaps instead we could extend his sentence....and throw away the key. It is nice to know, however, that this fool has probably come to realize what a screw up he was .. and that actions have consequences. What's the matter, Johnny Taliban? Is your boyfriend mistreating you?

THE FAIRTAX BOOK IS STACKED!

This from a listener...who knew?

Hello Neal,

Last night (Wednesday), my family was watching Pamela Anderson's sitcom called "Stacked" about the goings on in a small bookstore. In the middle of the "store" is a table of books, and sitting there on top of a stack of white books was a copy of the Fair Tax book by you and Congressman Linder. I pointed this out to my son, who has also read the book. He went and found my copy to verify that it was in fact the Fair Tax book. Later the cameras happened to zoom in enough to clearly show the "No IRS" logo. I don't know the viewership on this program; we only saw it because it came on after "That 70's show" which we tend to watch because it does remind us of growing up in the 70's. Hey, nothing like a little free nation-wide advertizing!!

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Leading off the reading assignments today, a great opinion piece from someone who writes regularly on tax reform matters. Merrill Bender says that The FairTax is the solution for bankrupt companies like Delphi, and other companies ready to go over the edge. If you support the FairTax, or if you're on the fence, read this!

With the NSA wiretapping story hitting the fan, Democrats are suddenly more concerned about our personal privacy than ever.  But Michelle Malkin says the left is full of hypocrisy on the issue.  She offers 7 examples.  That's right...7!

Saddam Hussein has decided to end his court boycott.
That means more speeches with clenched fists in the Green Zone courtroom.  Perhaps he was holding out for a new suit and fresh underwear.  Oh how the mighty have fallen.

The Islamic organization CAIR has issued a travel advisory for American Muslims making their pilgrimage to Mecca.
What's the problem?  CAIR is complaining about its members being singled out for special security checks.  And we all know none of the 9/11 hijackers were Muslims...and no terrorist has ever practiced the Islamic faith.  Riight.

George Bush is closing out 2005 on a positive note, thanks to the media and the Democrats.  Katrina, Scooter Libby, Iraq...wiretapping...all of it was supposed to finish him.  No such luck for the left, as Mort Kondracke reports.

Interesting support for the president from a Democrat.....in this case, former New York Mayor Ed Koch.  He says Democrats and the media need to remember we are at war, and the president is not the enemy.

Byron York reports on the activities of the Clinton administration
and their no-warrant searches....but of course the media is ignoring that.  Remember the media bias template....Republicans bad and evil...Democrats good.

When it comes to price-gouging, people always talk about corporations doing it...with regard to gasoline and so forth.  But as Walter E. Williams tells us, did you know the federal government drives up the price of things like milk, and will even put people in jail if they lower the price?  You better believe it...read on to find out more.

With the end of the year 10 days away, Brent Bozell of The Media Research Center brings us the media's shabbiest moments.  There's been more liberal bias than ever....some of it you won't believe.

John Stossel brings us a story of government driving up the cost of business
in an unbelievable fashion.  Have you ever heard of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act?  If you're an accountant getting rich off of it, you have.

Is George Bush going down over the wiretapping of American citizens without a warrant?  Jonah Goldberg says no....he doesn't think the public will hold the president accountable for it.  But that hasn't stopped the Democrats from talking impeachment.

WHAT THE HECK ARE THOSE POINTY HAND THINGS?
