THIS OUGHT TO TERRIFY YOU

Those who listen to my show know that I am not what you might call "friendly" to the idea of government educating our children.  Every day I try to find at least one government-education horror story to share with my listeners, and every day that task becomes easier and easier.  Just two days ago I was telling you about a school district in Rhode Island that had cancelled the annual spelling bee.  An administrator said that the spelling bee violated the spirit of "The No Child Left Behind Act" because one child would win, and the others would be left behind. This government employee/assistant superintendent said that a spelling bee was about "some kids being winners and some kids being losers."  So ... no spelling bee.  Does this asinine thought process exist in your child's school system?  Who knows!  I can tell you that I see more and more stories like this every day.

How can parents not understand that turning over their children to the state to be educated will have consequences?  Can anyone truly expect that their child will survive such an experience with even the most shallow understanding of the dangers of too much government?  If your child is educated in a Catholic private school you would reasonably expect that your child will come away believing that the Catholic way of looking at things is pretty much on mark.  Ditto for a Baptist or a Hebrew school.  And you somehow think that government schools don't work the same magic?  Doesn't it stand to reason that if you send your child to a government school that your child will "learn," if that's the word, that government is the answer to most of the problems they will face in their lives?

Yes, I know government is necessary.  I'm not an anarchist.  I do believe, though, that the phrase "necessary evil" applies to government more than to any other institution in our lives.  I doubt, though, that your child will ever hear that phrase applied to government in their government school classrooms.  Nor will they learn that government is the only institution in our lives that can use deadly force to accomplish it's goals.  You must know that your children will never be taught that America wasn't created to be a democracy, and that the very people who wrote our constitution and designed our form of government warned us very specifically against the idea of democracy and majority rule.  And you certainly must know that your child will never learn in a history class that our founding fathers intended for over 90% of all governing to come from the local level in times of peace.

The list goes on.  Day after day your children are presented with nothing but a positive image of government and its role in our society as they sit in their government classrooms being taught by government employees in schools administered by government bureaucrats.  When your child finally escapes to the private sector they will be fully trained to depend on government to smooth out all of the rough spots in life.

Now ... let's take a look at an alarming study of high school attitudes toward one of our basic and most precious freedoms; freedom of the press.  Last Spring the University of Connecticut conducted a survey of 112,003 high school students across the country.  These students were asked if they believe that newspapers should be required to get permission from the government before they publish stories.  If our schools were doing their job in teaching our children about basic freedoms, the Bill of Rights and the proper role of government in a free society you wouldn't be able to find 5 out of 100 high school students who would tell you that they believe government should control what stories newspapers can publish.  Well .. brace yourselves.  Thirty-six percent of high school students believe that newspapers should get government approval of stories before they are published.  Another 13% didn't have an opinion.  That makes 49% of our high school students, virtually one-half, who have no particular appreciation for freedom of the press.

OK .. so you'll read this, or hear me talk about it on the radio, and you'll shake your head and wonder what is wrong with our schools.  Then, tomorrow morning, you'll pack some lunches and send the most precious thing in your life, your child, off to the government for more of this wonderful government education.

THAT "WAR FOR OIL" THING

It's a close race between the several ways that you can prove to the world that you're a complete idiot.

1.  You can copy your hairstyle after a tire tread.

2.  You can get tattoos on your neck or face

3.  You can smoke

4.  You can claim that the war in Iraq is a "war for oil"

I'm still waiting for one of these "war for oil" people to call the show and make their case.

TERRORIST FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES

Islamofascists the world over now have a friend on the bench. Federal Judge Joyce Hens Green of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruled yesterday that non-U.S. fighters (enemy combatants) can challenge their detention in U.S. courts. This means, of course, that Al-Qaeda Islamic terrorists who were captured killing Americans now get access to our judicial system. Nice going, Judge Green. By the way, would you like to know who appointed this judicial abomination to the bench? Naturally, none other than President Jimmy Carter. The damage from that 48-month disaster lives on.

In her ruling, she tried to make the point that somehow non-U.S. citizens are entitled to protections under the U.S. Constitution, even when they've never placed a foot on U.S. soil. Just a bit of a stretch, isn't it? Now, let's take her argument to its logical conclusion. Let's say Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is captured. This is the Islamic psycho that is responsible for killing American soldiers and cutting off the heads of Americans with a hunting knife while they screamed. Her Honor Judge Green would have Zarqawi arraigned in federal court and given all the protections and luxuries that United States citizens are afforded. What's next....U.S. troops having to read Al-Qaeda terrorists their rights before they arrest them?

What if Bin Laden is captured? Same thing? U.S. courts? Free legal counsel? Death row? Perhaps he would be tried in a state without the death penalty. Who knows. The point is that American citizens should be given all due process under the United States Constitution and prisoners of war should be afforded the protections under the Geneva Convention. Nothing more.

Enemy combatants, terrorists and foreign spies do not belong in the U.S. courts. Hopefully The Supreme Court will throw out this pro-terrorist ruling.

AND YET ANOTHER EMINENT DOMAIN OUTRAGE

This land grab is happening in Norwood, Ohio, a suburb of Cincinnati.  There we have Joy and Carl Gamble.  They've been living in their house for 35 years now.   A private developer wants their home for a shopping mall and some apartments.  Enter Mayor Thomas Williams and the City of Norwood.  The Gambles have been ordered to leave their home by Thursday.  The city needed some sort of excuse, so the Mayor says that the neighborhood is "deteriorating" because, as this champion of private property rights puts it, "there's noise and congestion and everything."

So that's what it takes now?  If there's noise in your neighborhood, or if there's traffic congestion, that's all the government needs to pay you some lowball price, force you out and hand your property over for a developer to build some malls, condos, apartments or whatever.

You know what this is about, don't you?  Money.  Follow the money.  The shopping mall and the apartment complex will bring in more taxes than these private homes do.  So if you're a politician looking for more tax money to spend to buy votes so that you can keep your nice little position of power, why not force people who pay little in property taxes out of their homes and hand the property over to some fancy developer -- a developer who has probably already fattened your campaign war chest -- and let that developer build a shopping mall and some apartments!

A lot of you have been listening to me cite these examples of violations of basic property rights .. and you sit around and shake your heads.  It's a real shame, isn't it?  Well, you had better start doing more than shaking your heads.  It could be your home next week or next month.  If you believe in private property rights it is time for you to get proactive.

How about a link?  Here you go, The City of Norwood!  Knock yourselves out!

MORE GIMME GENERATION HANDOUTS

Well, there's good news for the millions of Medicare recipients who are experiencing erectile dysfunction. The largest inter-generational wealth transfer in the history of man is now being expanded. Actually, it was already expanded....by George Bush's disastrous proposal to expand Medicare to cover prescription drugs.

At any rate, there is news today that Viagra is going to be covered by Medicare. Just think: those of you of working age who are going to work today will be paying to improve the sex lives of the dirty old men down at the nursing home. Such a wise allocation of precious government resources, is it not?

This Medicare prescription drug business is expected to cost at least $400 billion over the next decade. At what point will those who are supporting the massive entitlements of the Gimme Generation revolt? Social Security, Medicare and interest on the debt now account for more than half of the federal budget.

What will be the breaking point? Let's see ... if the taxpayers have to pay for your erection, why not make the taxpayers pay for something or someone to use it on?

READING ASSIGNMENTS

We're starting with a link to Taranto's Best of the Web Today.  I want you to read the bits from Iraq .. statements from Iraqis who had just voted for the first time in their lives.  Warning:  May cause discomfort for Democrats.

Our girl Belinda was voted the happiest radio personality in Atlanta!  Now you know why I'm always in such a good mood. And our WSB weather-stud, Kirk Mellish was the Broadcaster of the week ... the ONLY meteorologist in Atlanta who predicted last weekend's ice storm five days in advance.

How about a dose of political correctness today?  A college education student gets expelled for writing a paper favoring corporeal punishment in schools.  Smack 'em.  It might knock some sense into the little brats.

How in the world is it that Hillary Clinton faints at a speaking engagement at not a single person is on hand to capture it on videotape? At any rate, good to hear that she's OK.  I'm depending on Shrillary for a good next four years of talk radio.  (imagine the Nuze without her.)

Smart man...one of the soldiers accused in the Abu Ghraib investigation has cut a deal to do 18 months with reduced charges. That's quite a bit shorter than the 10 years Charles Graner will be doing.

A leftist University of Colorado professor who wrote an essay comparing 9/11 victims to Nazi monster Adolf Eichmann is resigning. Good riddance....and by the way, how does someone so obviously mentally deficient become a college professor anyway?  You would be really upset if you knew how many idiots like this we have in teaching positions in our colleges and universities.  Go to the article and get a look at this leftist creep.

Congress has passed a law authorizing special forces to spend money to pay informants and foreign fighters in the war on terror. I wonder if they'll have to take a CPA with them when they're deployed?

President Bush is going to propose in his state of the union address raising the military death benefit to $100,000 from $12,420. It's about time. Of course, watch liberals oppose this one. After all, they wouldn't need the money if Bush hadn't send them to their deaths, right?

Four Ohio state senators have introduced an academic bill of rights to combat left-leaning bias by college professors. Naturally, colleges are opposed.

President Bush's proposal for a guest worker card for illegal aliens is not the solution to the problem, writes Congressman J.D. Hayworth.

The Democrat's apparent choice of Howard Dean to be the chairman of the DNC proves that they're marching off a cliff. Dick Morris says history has not been kind to the leftists of the Democratic party.

The Poodle's appearance on 'Meet The Press' once again reminded voters why they don't like him. David Limbaugh breaks down Kerry's stand on Iraq.

Ted Kennedy's statement that troops should immediately begin withdrawing from Iraq show the senator's ignorance about the war on terror. Frank Gaffney, Jr. asks where he would propose withdrawing the troops to?

Astute Nuze reader, Sharon, submitted another instance of someone using the Nuze on their site without credit. Looks like of like Neal's piece from last week. Hmmmm.

WHAT THE HECK ARE THOSE POINTY HAND THINGS?
These are links to each individual story on the Nuze, p-links for the geeks out there. Plus, they work today and they'll work tomorrow. Now you can easily discuss/debate/rip apart the Nuze without worrying about the links going bad. Enjoy!
