I do have one question about the Michael Jackson trial. During the
projected six months what is the likelihood that Michael will wear the same
outfit twice? THE
STATE OF THE UNION
Tonight at 9 o'clock President Bush will address a joint session of Congress and
deliver his State of the Union address. In his speech, he is expected to
announce his plan to reform Social Security (or at least the direction he wants
to go with it,) a plan for a guest worker program for illegal aliens and he is
going to propose some sort of freeze on non-defense spending. I guess he's
finally done spending hundreds of billions of dollars on new entitlements.
Anyway, he is also going to report on foreign policy. Things in Iraq have
suddenly taken a serious turn for the better, and the Democrats have been
muzzled on that issue following the successful elections over the weekend.
Since Sunday we have heard nary a peep out of the likes of George Soros, Michael
Moore and Jimmy Carter, who flat out said elections weren't possible. In
other words, there are a lot of those on the left that now have egg on their
face. Bush will be riding high when he takes to the podium tonight.
After the speech, the Democrats will deliver their response. Their
strategy is going to be to demagogue the issue of Social Security. They
are going to lie over and over again and claim that President Bush wants to cut
the benefits of retirees. You will hear time and time again about
President Bush wanting to "gamble" the Social Security trust
fund. By the way, that's another lie. There is no Social Security
trust fund.
This will be the official kickoff of the second term battle.
THINGS
I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR IN THE STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS ...
...but I won't. During my first administration federal spending rose faster on an annual
basis than in any year since World War II. With these record spending
increases there is no reason why federal spending can't be cut this year by two
percent; with another two percent to follow next year. Your representatives in Washington should not spend one dollar that they
can't honestly tell you, face to face, that they need for their spending program
more than you need it for you own personal spending needs. We in Washington need to recognize that the wealth of America belongs to the
people who earned it, not to government. I read about one Iraqi man whose father was imprisoned and then murdered by
Saddam Hussein 14 years ago. Since his father's disappearance this man and
his two brothers all got married, but out of respect for their father, none of
them had a wedding party. This past Sunday, after the vote in Iraq, they
all had their wedding party. There's a Senator in this chamber tonight who
needs to tell this man and his brothers that we shouldn't over hype the
election. Our current tax system punishes achievement and rewards lethargy. It
doesn't take a great mental capacity to see that there's something wrong with
this system. It needs changing. Either work with me for reform, or
shut up and step aside. How can we claim that the people of America are free when they lack something
so basic as school choice. The teachers unions and the education
establishment need to set their selfish interests aside for the betterment of
our children. Democrats have said that I need to forget about privatizing Social
Security. They say it will not happen. Democrats have used Social
Security to frighten our senior citizens in every election for the past 50
years. Year after year it's the same thing. Vote for Republicans and
they'll take your Social Security away, yet Social Security remains.
Democrats know that if you own your own account they can no longer threaten you
with its loss. Fighting Social Security reform is all about protecting
Democrats long-standing scare tactics. ---- listen to the Boortz show for more! LURCHING
TO THE LEFT
One
of the more moderate and sensible candidates for the chairmanship of the
Democratic National Committee has quit the race. Former Texas Congressman
Martin Frost, a red state moderate Democrat, is no longer a candidate.
Howard Dean is now the inevitable choice to run the Democratic party.
Think about that for a minute. The Democrats lost nearly every single
national race that they ran. Howard Dean was defeated in the primaries
because he was viewed as too extreme. The liberals considered their
safe choice to be The Poodle, who was also soundly defeated. So now
they're turning to former Vermont Governor and Doctor Howard Dean to lead them
out of the darkness? This should be good.
This is the same Howard Dean that said the capture of Saddam Hussein did not
make America safer. This is the same Howard Dean that said he found it
"interesting" that President Bush might have known about the 9/11
attacks beforehand. And this is the same Howard Dean that just the other
day said he hated Republicans. That's right, he used the word
"hate." Imagine if a Republican had said he hated
Democrats? We'd still be hearing about it.
Those of you on the left....take a good, long look at the face of your party:
Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy and Howard Dean.
It's not a pretty sight.
MEDIA
DUPED ON HOSTAGE REPORT
This is just a riot. A picture surfaced on an Islamic terrorist web site
yesterday showing a gun to the head of
a captured U.S. soldier in Iraq. Very sad indeed, especially for his
family. But wait...it turns out after the Associated Press ran with the
story, which was picked up by other media outlets, somebody took a closer look
at the picture.
It wasn't a United States Military soldier after all. What was it?
It was none other than "Special
Ops Cody," a military action figure manufactured by a toy company in
2003. It's quite the set...he comes with a flak jacket, a vest, guns,
ammo, a uniform and a helmet. And the media fell for it hook, line and
sinker.
Now you do realize that once it was discovered as a fake, the Democrats
and the media were disappointed. They wanted there to be a U.S. soldier
being held hostage, not only because it would generate ratings, but because it
would serve their anti-war, Bush-hating crusade.
It's not known what happened to "Special Ops Cody," nor whether an
effort will be mounted to rescue him. READING ASSIGNMENTS
The superintendent of schools in Lincoln, Rhode Island has
reinstated the canceled spelling bee. Apparently they have now
decided it does not violate the 'No Child Left Behind' act. Nice to know
they're not complete morons.
Kofi
Annan has selected Bill Clinton to be the U.N. point man on the tsunami
reconstruction effort. Hopefully he'll keep more of an eye on American aid
money than he will the interns. I'm sure there will be interns....after
all, nobody works for free.
Democrats
in the Senate have decided they won't filibuster President Bush's choice to
be attorney general. This is being reported as some sort of principled
decision on the part of Harry Reid. On the contrary: there won't be a
filibuster of Alberto Gonzales because they don't have the votes.
The president of Iraq says
he doesn't want U.S. troops to leave. But wait...I thought the
Democrats said we weren't welcome there anymore?
The governor of Colorado has finally called for the
firing of that leftist Al-Qaeda sympathizer at the University of
Colorado. Good riddance.
A liberal columnist has dared to ask the question: what
if George Bush has been right about Iraq all along? Mark Brown of the
Chicago Sun-Times may need some new friends after that one.
Despite the naysayers and the insurgents, Iraq has taken a bold step toward the
future. George
Will, ever skeptical of the whole war effort, offers his praise.
Larry Summers has been on the skewer for weeks over his statements about women
and science and math. Walter
E. Williams wonders if there would be the same outrage if this theory were
applied to other areas.
Michael Jackson's father is blaming racism for his son's legal problems. Give
me a break, says Michelle Malkin, who looks at some of the more ridiculous
statements surrounding the trial.
Not only was tyranny defeated in Iraq last weekend, but so were the naysayers.

Sowell says the defeatists have been defeated. |
