TURNING
OUT THOSE DEMOCRATIC VOTERS
More
proof last week that Hillary is running for President. Last week The
Hildabeast decided to devote her efforts to getting more people to the polls in
2008. She wants a federal law allowing all convicted felons who have
served their time to be able to vote in federal elections, and she wants to make
election day a federal holiday.
If you think about both of these elements you will see that they are designed
to do one thing ... send more democratic voters to the polls on election
day. Surveys consistently show that people who are in prison and people
who have been in prison are more likely than not to vote Democratic.
Hillary's move there is fairly transparent. But what about making election
day a federal holiday? You might have to devote about eight seconds
of additional thought to this one. Just who gets off work on a federal
holiday? Do you? Probably not. Government workers get the day off on
federal holidays. Now it's more clear, isn't it? Government workers
vote Democratic; maybe not in the percentages you see with black voters and
school teachers, but the percentage is overwhelming nonetheless. So ...
get a law passed that says that government workers don't have to be bothered by
actually working on election day, and it leaves so much more time for them to go
to the polls to inflict their damage on the concept of limited government.
Who, after all, ever heard of a government worker favoring limited government? Once again, I have a better idea to get people to the polls. All people
--- not just crooks and government workers. Just have the polls open for
24 hours on election day! Every polling place in the country opens at 7:00
p.m. Eastern time on Monday night and remains open for 24 hours. That
means that no matter the work schedule, whether you work first, second or third
shift -- days or nights -- everyone has the remainder of the day to get out
there and vote. Every poll in the country would close at exactly the same
time. This would mean that television networks wouldn't be able to tilt
the vote one way or the other with reports of early returns. MY
SOCIAL SECURITY STATEMENT HAS ARRIVED!!
Yup .. I'm holding it in one hand right now while I type with the
other! This statement shows me how much I've paid into Social Security and
Medicare, and how much I will get when I retire. It also contains this
fiction that my employer has been "matching" my Social Security
taxes. Here, though, is what I want to bring to your attention --- especially if you
are one of those people who thinks that your Social Security benefits are
guaranteed. There's an asterisk. At the bottom of page two you'll
see this paragraph: "Your estimated benefits are based on current law. Congress
has made changes to the law in the past and can do so at any time. The
law governing benefit amounts may change because, by 2042, the payroll taxes
collected will be enough to pay only about 73% of the scheduled
benefits."
Wait a minute! Congress can change my benefits at any time? I
thought that my benefits were guaranteed! Isn't that what Democrats have
been telling us? Haven't they been telling us that Republicans want to
remove our "guaranteed" benefits in favor of a "risky"
investment scheme? Golly! You don't think they might have been stretching the truth, do
you? THE
GANNON/GUCKERT SAGA
For some reason, spurred on by leftist blogs, the mainstream media is trying to
keep this story going as long as possible. The reason, of course, being
that it's bad for Bush. Remember the template.
By now, you've heard the tale: Jeff Gannon worked for the Talon News
Service, which is run by a Republican operative who also runs GOPUSA. He
reported for Talon from the White House, where he was granted a daily press pass
(not a permanent pass, which requires a background check.) So what is
Gannon's crime?
He asked President Bush at a press conference a question that dared criticize
Democrats for being "divorced from reality." Now ... I agree
that the question was improperly phrased. The phrase "divorced from
reality" is a judgment and did not belong in the question. I dare say
however that if that question had been posed by a recognized and accepted
leftist the error would have gone unnoticed. Since most members of
the White House press corps are liberal Democrats and the question was asked by
a conservative Republican, something had to be done. There had to be some
kind of story behind Gannon's question...surely he was planted there by Karl
Rove! So the leftist blogs went to work "exposing" Gannon, whose
real name turned out to be Guckert. As if that alone means anything
because we all know Jeff Gannon is the first and only person in the history of
journalism to not use his real name. Right.
And so now the latest is that Mr. Guckert had a previous life as a gay
prostitute. This was before he got into journalism. But wait?
Didn't we read something several years ago about some gay prostitute using
Barney Frank's home as a base of operations? Why yes! I think there
was such a story! And just why didn't that story grow legs like the Gannon
bit? Well, you don't think it had anything to do with the fact that Frank
is a liberal Democrat, do you?
How obvious can the media be? THE
PRESIDENT AND HIS "FRIEND"
Who
needs enemies when you have friends like these? Doug Wead, who has a
new book about presidential childhoods, once worked as an aide for Bush
senior. He had several conversations some years ago with then-Governor
George W. Bush. They talked about all sorts of issues, including the
presidential campaign. It was then that Mr. Wead decided to stab Mr. Bush
in the back and record the phone calls.
Flash-forward to 2005. Wead has a book coming out, and he'd like to drum
up a little publicity. He decides to play some of the telephone
conversations for the New York Times. He denies that the purpose of this
was to promote his book. Now we all believe that, don't we? But
you're really going to have to strap on the wading boots for this one: Mr. Wead
says he didn't mean for the transcripts of the conversations to be
published. I'm sure that's why he played them for a New York Times
reporter.
As for what's in the tapes, nothing really too bad. Bush talks about his
refusal to bash homosexuals just to score points with the religious right, all
but admitted to using marijuana and criticized his rivals for the 2000
Republican presidential nomination. Beyond that, not much else. The
media is running with the drug part of the story.
Wead says he's keeping some of the tapes private, because they contain personal
information that could land him in legal hot water. How long before those
become public?
MAKING
NICE WITH THE EURO-WEENIES
President Bush is abroad on a five-day trip across Europe, designed as a 'charm
offensive' to put any disagreements in the past and improve relations with
countries who opposed the war in Iraq. With Bush's trip, you can be
certain of two things.
One, that the favor will not be returned. Sure...those 'world leaders' as
The Poodle called them, will receive Bush, be nice to him and even say nice
things about him while he's there. But once he's gone, the anti-American
hatred will pick up right where it left off. The attitudes of Europeans
haven't changed, and Europeans in overwhelming numbers want to see the role of
the United States weakened in world affairs, and the role of the European Union
strengthened. Simply put .. people who want you weakened are not your
friends.

SECRET DEALINGS IN MY HOME STATE
A Georgia political blog has nailed the Georgia Republican Party straight on.
The
"Political Vine" blog dated yesterday begins: "Let's stop
confusing the public with terminology in this state. The 'Republicans' running
the state legislature are not 'conservatives' in any way, shape or form. They
more resemble elitists with a definite religious tint. 'Conservatives' are
a group of people who not only believe in less intrusive government and more
personal responsibility, but actually work to achieve these goals in
their every action. Frankly, we've seen NOTHING in the current legislature that
reflects one iota of those goals." First of all we had the Republican inspired disaster called SB5. This
bill, which seems dead -- for now -- would have created a developer-government
partnership for the seizure of private property. Developers would have
been able to cruise the hinterlands looking for nice pieces of property.
Having found one they would create some thin excuse for "public use"
and then enlist the help of their friendly local government to initiate the
seizure process. Though this bill has been pronounced dead, don't believe
it. The Republicans in the Georgia legislature will simply find another
way to get this developer/government partnership on the books. The "Political Vine" outlines some other examples of the Republican
love for freedom and limited government intrusion in Georgia: - House Bill 218 introduced by Republican Ron Stephens: This would
allow governments to negotiate in secret with businesses for tax breaks and
other favors. The stated goal here is to attract business without
attracting competition from other states. Isn't that great? Just
operate out of the sight of the people who pay the bills in giving huge tax
breaks an other favors to businesses who agree to relocate or expand.
Who needs open government when there are businesses to please?
- Then we have Senator Mitch Seabaugh .. another Republican. Seabaugh
apparently believes that the government should decide when a man and a woman
can and cannot terminate their marriage. He wants a waiting period
before couples can file for divorce. Time for counseling. This
"Republican" evidently hasn't figured out that the government
doesn't decide how long a marriage should last.
- Democrats are getting in on the act as well. Representative
Stephanie Benefield supported by Republican Judy Manning wants report cards
in government schools to include a measurement of the child's body mass
index. She doesn't think a parent can recognize a fat child.
Sure they can. Most fat kids have fat parents. The lifestyle is
being passed on. Besides, misery loves company.
- I don't know if it's Republicans or Democrats behind this one, but they
want to make those heavily tinted windows illegal again. This time they want
the law to apply to out-of-state cars. So, you drive from Florida into
Georgia with heavily tinted windows on your car, you get pulled over and
fined. As if our troopers didn't have enough to do. While
worrying about tinted windows these so-called "public servants"
still can't do anything about teen drivers.
Now I will admit that I haven't perused every single piece of legislation
that has been introduced into the Georgia Legislature this year; but of those
I've seen there are none designed to increase freedom and personal
responsibility and get government out of our lives. Republican control of
the Georgia General Assembly has proven to be a huge disappointment. READING ASSIGNMENTS Irritating people in the restaurant on their cell phones? You need one

For four years, from 2000 to 2004, the Democrats contended that the 2000
