END
OF THE WEEK INTEMPERATE THOUGHTS
Democrats are starting to whine about the cost of the inauguration. They
want Bush to scale things back. Why? Well because of the Social
Security crisis, of course, and because of the tsunamis. This is America's
quadrennial celebration of our electoral system ... a system whereby we can
change leadership in an orderly manner according to set law. I guess
Democrats just have to do something to ruin the party. Just ask yourself
this question: Would they be calling for a scaled-back inauguration if The
War Hero was going to be up there taking the oath of office?
Oh .. you just gotta love this one. Evidently the Pentagon is
researching some new weapons ... including a weapon, a chemical weapon, that
would make
enemy soldiers sexually irresistible to each other. Evidently this sex
bomb would cause widespread homosexual behavior among enemy troops.
There's also the rat bomb, the bad breath bomb and the sunburn bomb. The
human rights folks will surely object. It's legal to shoot and kill enemy
troops, but you can't give them bad breath. Whenever you hear a group of people start to express an opinion with the
words "Hey hey, ho ho...." you know that you're getting ready to
listen to a group of idiots saying absolutely nothing. I saw some anti-Wal-Mart "activist" complaining yesterday that
Wal-Mart didn't pay enough to support a family of four. Hint: If you
don't have the job skills or the education necessary to get a job better than
Wal-Mart then you shouldn't HAVE a family of four. It's called
responsibility. There are only two reasons to oppose private accounts for Social Security.
(1) You know that if people own their own Social Security Accounts you
will not be able to frighten them with the "So-and-so wants to take away
your Social Security" line during elections; or, (2) You need more money to
spend to buy votes in your State or District. Michael Newdow is a publicity whore. BUSH
ADMITS A MISTAKE
Back during the campaign, President Bush gave a press conference where a
reporter famously asked him if he could think of any mistakes he made. He
couldn't think of any, and so the Democrats and The Poodle seized on it, led by
the media. How can the president not admit any mistakes, they howled!
Well, the left has finally gotten their pound of flesh from George W.
Bush. After months and months of demanding the president apologize for
some mistake, the media and the liberals are getting what they want. Sort
of.
During a round-table interview with 14 newspapers this week, Bush said he
regretted his choice of words when he said "Bring 'Em On" in reference
to Iraqi insurgents attacking Americans. He also said his "Wanted
Dead Or Alive" line about Osama Bin Laden following 9/11 was not the best
choice of words. So what gives...is Bush going soft on us?
Who knows. He says that those words had unintended consequences. In
the case of the "Bring 'Em On" line, he says he didn't mean for
it to be interpreted as defiance in the face of danger. As for the Osama
line, Bush says he regrets the choice of words.
So now the left has their presidential admission. The apology-obsessed
media can now take comfort in the knowledge that the president has a single
regret
YOU'LL
NEVER HEAR THE REST OF THE STORY
About that search for WMDs in Iraq. You've already heard that the
search is over, and that no stockpiles of weapons were found. Maybe
so. But the Bush-hating left is not going to give you the benefit of the
whole story. Here's an example: You'll hear from Pelosiland that the final report says "The former
Regime had no formal written strategy or plan for the revival of WMD after
sanctions." So far so good. That really makes Saddam sound
benign, doesn't it? But are the leftists telling you the whole
story? Let's read that paragraph in its entirety: "The former Regime had no formal written strategy or plan for the
revival of WMD after sanctions. Neither was there an identifiable group of WMD
policy makers or planners separate from Saddam. Instead, his lieutenants
understood WMD revival was his goal from their long association with Saddam
and infrequent, but firm, verbal comments and directions to them."
Oops. Now that's not the impression you came away with when you only
heard the first part of that paragraph, was it? You don't think someone is
trying to hide the rest of the story from you, do you? FOX
CAVES IN TO JIHADISTS
There
is a show on the Fox television network called '24.' The show is based on
24 hours of a crisis at a counter-terrorism unit. The same story line runs
for an entire season. This past week was the debut of season number
four.
This year's story revolves around a terrorist sleeper cell that is planning an
attack on America. As part of their planning, they kidnap the secretary of
defense and plan to take over the Internet. The terrorists and the
kidnappers on the show are Muslims...essentially portrayed as Al-Qaeda
agents. Sort of a 'ripped from the headlines' thing.
So what's the problem? The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)
complained that the show was promoting Islamic stereotypes. They're upset
that Muslims are always portrayed on TV as Islamic terrorists. (Not true.
Sometimes they're portrayed as the owners of cheap motels.)
Sadly, the Fox network has caved on this one. Fox is going to provide
stations with public service announcements (produced by CAIR) that portray
Muslims in a positive light (for example, not hijacking airplanes, not
cutting people's heads off, and changing sheets in their motels.) I guess
they'll show Islamic terrorists blowing bubbles and helping little old ladies
cross the street.
By the way, CAIR itself has ties to Islamic terror organizations such as Hamas.
They try and portray themselves as some sort of Islamic civil rights
organization, but all they're really interested in doing is trying to make
sure the peaceful religion of Islam doesn't take any PR hits. Their point
is that not all Muslims are terrorists.
They're right. Not all Muslims are terrorists. However, for the last
several years, it seems that all terrorists are Muslims. That's not a
stereotype, that's called a description of a suspect.
READING ASSIGNMENTS Conservatives
are starting to infiltrate college campuses. This would be the last bastion
for the loony left. You are going to LOVE this. Is
this our future in the U.S.? Just take a look .. no explanation is
necessary. The celebrity-worshiping culture is
all abuzz over Prince Harry's dumb idea to dress up like a Nazi soldier for a
party. I'm not sure which is a bigger waste....the British monarchy,
or the tabloid media that feeds off of it. Viruses and spyware are
causing people to curb their use of the Internet. Of course, those
of us in the know use the
Firefox web browser, and don't have any such problems.
Your tax dollars at work: $170
million spent on a new FBI computer system may have to be scrapped
because it doesn't work. How nice. Nothing like throwing good money
after bad.
Vice President Dick Cheney spoke about the partial privatization of Social
Security yesterday at The Catholic University of America. You
can read his remarks to get an idea of what the administration's plan is.
The media is now swooning over Yasser Arafat's successor as the knight in
shining armor for the Middle East peace process.
Max Boot says people shouldn't fall in love with Abbas yet.
Last year, Zell Miller wrote a book about how the Democratic party was 'a
national party no more.'
Rich Lowry talks about just how right Zell turned out to be.
Lost in all of the hysteria over the budget deficit is this fact: the U.S.
budget deficit is actually shrinking.
Larry Kudlow reports the news that is getting swept under the rug.
The bargaining in Congress has already begun on personal retirement accounts for
Social Security. Robert
Novak reports on one such plan, where each political party would get some of
what they wanted.
Mona Charen takes the government of Indonesia to task for being ungrateful to
the United States. She
says it's all part of that Muslim country's anti-American agenda.
Ted Kennedy has shared his vision for the Democratic party, and David
Limbaugh says the political dinosaur is adhering to the failed liberal
policies of the past. |
