Thursday -- January 20, 2005 Inauguration Day
RANDOM
AND INTEMPERATE THOUGHTS
The absolute best thing about today, other than the fact that I'm not
practicing law, is that John Kerry is NOT being sworn in as President of the
United States. America has much to be thankful for. Those poor, poor pitiful protesters. When I left Washington yesterday I
saw them camping out along the parade route. The snow was falling, and it
was very cold. I can't tell you how sorry I felt for the protesters.
I can't because I didn't. Why won't the mainstream media identify these
losers for what they really are? There was a homeless woman in my hotel room in DC last night. I had to
leave, and the hotel demanded a four-day minimum stay. It was snowing and
cold .. and there she was. Sooooo ..... Don't ever let it be
said that I haven't ever done anything for the homeless. Virtually every city in the United States East of the Mississippi River is
experiencing colder-than-normal temperatures this week. It's that global warming
stuff. CNN interviewed some citizens about Social Security privatization this
morning. Three generations of one family. Grandma, mom and daughter.
The grandmother was steadfastly against people owning their own Social Security
accounts. She said it was like the government teaching people how to
gamble. How does freedom survive people like this? Speaking of Social Security privatization. Watch Republican House Ways
and Means Chairman Bill Thomas kill the idea sometime within the next
week. I guess he's feeling the political pressure from the Gimme
Generation. Americans are doubtful that we can get meaningful reform in either Social
Security or income taxes. The fighting spirit ... the can-do spirit seems to be
gone. No surprise .. that's what you get with a government that promotes
security over freedom. BITTER
POODLE VOTES NO
Barbara
Boxer voting 'no' to confirm Condoleezza Rice as secretary of state was entirely
expected. The left's queen of mean had already made it known that she
wasn't a fan. But two people voted against Dr. Rice's nomination. So
who was the other one?
None other than the kept man himself: The Poodle. So why did John Kerry
vote against her nomination? Was it because he genuinely thought she
wasn't qualified? Of course not. His real reason for voting no was
because he is bitter at having lost the election to George Bush. Call it a
Senatorial temper tantrum. To be fair, he still does have a chance to vote
for Condi when her nomination reaches the floor of the Senate. That way he
can say that he voted against her before he voted for her. Clever guy,
that Poodle.
It really is quite sad. But he needs to get this out of his system quick
if he intends to run for the nomination again in 2008. There's nothing
America hates more than a sore loser. And if he keeps up his Al Gore act
much longer, he won't stand a chance.
Whatever he decides, we can thank God he's not being sworn in as President of
the United States today at Noon.
PLAYING
POLITICS WITH NATIONAL SECURITY
It's one thing to vote no for a president's cabinet nominee, it's entirely
another issue to try and stop that vote from taking place. Amazingly, the
liberals in the Senate are already stonewalling the president's nominees for a
second term before he's even sworn in again. What's even more outrageous
are the nominees they're holding up: State and Justice.
That's right. Even though Condoleezza Rice was recommended for confirmation by
the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Democrats now say they want more time to
consider the nomination. Right. What they want is more time to cause
problems, be annoying and threaten the national security of the country by
holding up important appointments.
None other than a spokesman for the Grand Wizard himself, former Klansman and
Senator Robert Byrd, had this to say: "Rushing the nomination through the
Senate would undermine the Constitutional responsibility that the Framers placed
on Senators." Oh really? What's the rush? Could it be
that the first secretary of state has resigned and wants to get out of
town? Doesn't the Senate have a responsibility to confirm nominees in a
timely fashion? I guess not.
Then there's Alberto Gonzales. Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee
decided to ask for a one-week hold on Gonzales' recommendation vote to the
Senate. So now he, John Ashcroft and the rest of the Justice Department
will twist in the wind while Democrats play politics with national security.
Not that they ever cared about national security anyway. It's all about
grandstanding and trying to get in some cheap shots on Bush when the opportunity
presents itself.
WHAT
COMES AROUND GOES AROUND
Word
this morning out of New York that Michael
Moore's bodyguard was arrested at JFK airport for carrying a gun without a
permit. It seems he had a license to carry the gun in Florida and
California, but not New York. Oops...off to central booking he went.
So let me ask you this. Why does a bodyguard for Michael Moore need a
gun? I thought guns were evil and aggressive? Apparently somebody
needs a little personal security. I wonder if Moore will bail his
bodyguard out of jail.
Nothing like a little retribution for everybody's favorite America-hating,
leftist tub of lard.
Now .. having said that, what about reciprocity? Aren't states supposed
to give full faith and credit to the laws of other states. This should
include carry permits for guns.
READING ASSIGNMENTSLiberals and the mainstream media are all upset that President Bush is
holding his inauguration during a time of suffering for the tsunami
victims. Ann
Coulter wonders if the Hollywood left will cancel the Oscars and give the
money to the tsunami victims? Also, a nice stroll down memory lane as she
revisits the first Clinton inauguration.
The Oil-For-Food sludge at the United Nations is
starting to be unraveled, and what investigators are finding isn't pretty.
First up: Jimmy Carter. Uh-oh.
If you're thinking of flying any time soon, you
might want to consider packing a bottle of water in your carry-on.
Looks like the water on airplanes is a little putrid these days.
The Democratic denial continues.....some
Democrats so upset at Bush's victory and inauguration they are leaving town
and refusing to attend the events. Good riddance.
As the U.S. Marines continue to help the victims of the tsunami, Steve
Darnell brings up an interesting point. He says it's time for the
Marines to go before we have another Somalia-type situation on our hands.
It's only been 9 weeks since he lost the general election, but
Byron York says The Poodle's 2008 election campaign is already up and
running.
The second terms of presidents in the modern era are always stained by
scandal. Dick
Morris offers a look at how and why second terms fail.
Now that Condoleezza Rice seems well on her way to confirmation, the media seems
to be devoting quite a bit of airtime to her detractors, as if she had no other
support. The
Media Research Center is there.
The left's game plan on Social Security seems to be just to go around saying
there's no problem. Thomas
Sowell argues otherwise, and gives a rundown of the current situation.
George
Will says it's time to reform Social Security not because it is in crisis,
but because there is an opportunity to extend personal freedom.
So what's the real reason Democrats are opposed to reforming Social
Security? Larry
Elder says it's because they believe you're too stupid to know how to spend
your own money. |
