Tracking map for Hurricane Dennis

WHO?

Blair's first statement about the blasts, flanked by Bush & Chirac

OK .. I know I'm in the minority here .. but I'm still not totally convinced that this terrorist attack in London was committed by Islamic radicals.  Relatively certain?  Perhaps so.  Convinced?  No, although Prime Minister Tony Blair is.  One thing we do know is that these bombings that killed more than 50 innocent people were almost certainly not the work of suicide suicide bombers.  This means that whoever the people are who went on this killing rampage, they are still wandering around London free as birds.  Will they quickly launch another attack to show their strength and to deepen the terror?

Then we have that rather strange Member of Parliament, George Galloway.  He's blaming the attack on Tony Blair.  Galloway is claiming credit for warning the world that if Bush invades Afghanistan and Iraq the world will become less safe.  Hard to believe, but there are people out there who believe that the best way to handle Islamic jihadist murderers is not to seek them out and kill them, but to say nice things to and about them in hopes that they'll just calm down and go away.

The reality is that these Islamic radicals are pursuing their oft-stated goal of killing as many Americans as they possibly can, all with a goal of eventually bringing the world to heel under Islamic domination and rule.  Never in the history of mankind have humans faced such an enemy on such a scale.  Their goal is domination, and their means to that goal is mass murder.  To these Islamic terrorists there are no innocents.  If you are not Muslim you are an infidel, a non-believer, and thus destined to die.  After all, it's Allah's will, right?

In the face of this we have to listen to the whining and cowardice of the appeasement crowd.  To far too many Americans the real enemy here is George Bush, not the Islamic killers.  How dare George Bush make good on his promise to seek out those who harbor and support terrorists and destroy them?

And please ... if you're one of those who wants to parrot that absurd line that there was no connection between Saddam Hussein's government and Al Qaeda ... save your breath.  Share that idea with your fellow appeasers.  Go ahead and ignore the 9/11Commission Report and the report of David Kay.  The connection was clear, the threat clearer.  I would rather listen to you spineless myrmidons ignorantly saying that it just ain't so than to have to listen to you wonder why Bush didn't act on the information that it was, in fact, so after it's too late to save tens of thousands of American lives.

AND THEN THERE'S LONDON'S MAYOR

Ken Livingstone is his name -- the so-called Lord Mayor of London.  Livingstone has made quite a career of defending Islamic murderers, terrorists and radicals.  Livingstone has had some rather nice things to say of late about one Sheik Al-Qaradhawi, called by some the "theologian of terror."  Al-Qaradhawi calls suicide bombings "divine operations of martyrdom."  He wants Muslims to "destroy the aggressive Jews."  Al-Qaradhawi visited London last year at the invitation of Livingstone.  Livingstone said that Al-Qaradhawi was a "man of moderation and tolerance" and said that he was honored by Al-Qaradhawi's visit to his city.  Now terrorists have visited the Lord Mayor's city.  Probably Islamic.  Maybe the terrorists are followers of Al-Qaradhawi.  Nice going, Mr. Lord Mayor.

TOO MANY AMERICANS HAVE FORGOTTEN .. IT COULD HAPPEN HERE.  NO ... IT WILL HAPPEN HERE.

London has now become the second major European city to have a train bombing by Islamic terrorists.  You might be watching all of this on TV and feel a bit removed from it all.  You might be telling yourself in the back of your mind 'I'm probably safe.'  This is what they call a good old-fashioned false sense of security.  Consider the following.

As a former CIA official points out in the reading assignments, the internal security apparatus of the United States is nowhere near as advanced as it is in Britain.  We're sitting ducks.  We just don't have as many police and as much surveillance as they have in a place like Britain.  Not that we should have, but it just makes the point.  Great Britain is an island.  We're not.  Our borders are wide open.  Any Muslim terrorist looking to bomb a city in the United States could waltz right in from Canada or Mexico without any problem at all.  By the way, did you know there are large stretches of the Canadian border that are unmanned?  You can just walk right across.

On top of that, Canada's immigration laws are extremely lax. Pretty much all you have to do is come into their country from some place else and declare yourself a refugee, and you're in.  Canada has a large Muslim population for this very reason.  It's easy to get in.

Look around your city.  Is there anything to prevent some follower of Islam from boarding a bus and leaving behind a bag with a bomb?  Anything to prevent a jihadist from walking into the center of a busy shopping mall and pulling the cord on a homicide bomb?  Nope...nothing.

We've been lucky.  Sadly, it's only a matter of time before we join the ranks of London and Madrid.

SO WHAT'S THE ANSWER?

Since we can't police every person in every city and every street and every bus, the solution to fighting terrorism is to take the fight to the enemy.  Essentially we should keep doing what we're doing, but really take the gloves off. There needs to be a zero tolerance policy with regard to Islamic terrorism.  For instance, take Iran.  They're known to harbor Al-Qaeda terrorists and they're pursuing nuclear weapons.  If we take positive action to stop them we'll catch hell from the peace-at-any-price cowards.  If we don't we'll be looking at tens or hundreds of thousands of dead Americans one day in the future.

The other thing we need to do is stop the political correctness before it has the deadly consequences that London experienced yesterday.  The TSA needs to stop searching little old ladies and start racially profiling people.  No person of Middle Eastern descent should be allowed on any airplane until they are searched.  Now why would we do a thing like that?  Just about every terrorist that  has attacked America in the last 20 years has been an Islamic terrorist.  We need to stop playing games and start protecting ourselves from the real enemy, which are radical Muslims.  Political correctness may feel good and assuage your sense of propriety, but it will end up getting people killed.  If the Muslim world doesn't like getting singled out for extra security and scrutiny, then maybe the Muslim world will actually take some strong action to do something about the radicals in their midst.

The way to defeat Islamic terrorists is to give them what they want: death.  This is the only consequence they understand, and they don't even fear that.  Kill them all.

HOW ABOUT GITMO NOW?

Given the outrage over the (probably) Islamic terror bombings in London, will we continue to hear the outrage from Democrats and the Euro-weenies over the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba?  Let's take a quick look at the situation, shall we?

Down at Gitmo, we're housing these animals in a state-of-the-art prison, complete with three square meals a day, a free Koran and a prayer rug.  We're treating these Islamic terrorists better than they've ever been treated.  But that's not how the anti-war, blame-America-first crowd on the left sees it.  To them, the United States is evil, and if we're running a prison for terrorists, then it must be a Gulag. They've been getting away with quite a lot of statements in the press criticizing us.

But now, with these terrorist bombings in London, will they shut up?  People aren't going to be too receptive to the idea of worrying about the living conditions and judicial recourse of terrorists at a prison in Cuba when innocent commuters are being blown up during rush hour in London.

Then again, somebody might stick their neck out there.  Some Democrat will probably say the bombings in London are Bush's fault...after all, he made them mad.  We should appease them at all costs, you know.   Let's just turn the Gitmo terrorists loose .. and then sit back to see where they'll strike.

CUT AND PASTE LETTERS TO THE EDITORS

One of the standard charges from the left is that conservative radio talk show hosts base their shows and their comments on talking points memos they get every morning from Karl Rove or some other Republican Party of White House operative.  If those talking points memos exist, you couldn't prove it by me.  I've never received one.  Maybe it's because of that "L" after my name instead of an "R."

I'll tell you what I have noticed though ... someone out there is providing talking points to the looney left.  You can see it day after day in the statements made by various leftist personalities to our media.  On Wednesday of this week James Taranto ran a list of 14 different newspapers and news web sites that used the term "bloody" with such words as "fight" or "battle" to describe the upcoming confirmation process for Bush's Supreme Court nominee.  OK, so the use of the term "bloody" doesn't exactly prove the point here, but stay tuned.

I like to scan the letters to the editor section of the the Naples Daily News website every day.  So many of these letters are proof that clear thought processes can suffer with advancing age.  The Naples Daily News is, in many ways, much like the Atlanta Journal Constitution in that it brings a decidedly liberal bias to a demographic area that is largely conservative.

Yesterday, as usual, the Naples Daily News carried a good collection of letters from various readers condemning George Bush and the war in Iraq.  Frankly, I'm surprised that the Iraqi insurgency hasn't found a way to reproduce this letters to the editor section in Arabic for distribution to suicide bombers in waiting.  They could only be encouraged by what they read.

At any rate, two of the letters printed yesterday were from Kevin Kittle and Cynthia Odiema, both hailing from Naples.  I've reprinted both of the letters here for you to read.  First, the letter from Kevin Kittle:

Editor, Naples Daily News:

It's time to start responsibly coming home from Iraq.

Iraq is no closer to stability than it was a year ago. Things keep getting worse every week. More than 1,700 Americans have been killed and more than 12,000 wounded.

The U.S. occupation is fueling a growing insurgency. Our presence is exacerbating the problem. There are tens of thousands of insurgents backed by hundreds of thousands of supporters.

We got into this war based on lies - the wrong way. It's time to get out the right way.

The first step is to realize that the Bush policy is out of touch with reality.

We need a real exit plan with a real timeline providing real accountability for our leaders. We need to turn control of the training of Iraqi forces and the rebuilding of Iraq over to the international community. And we must renounce permanent military bases in Iraq because that angers the Iraqi people.

- Kevin Kittle / Naples

OK ... fine.  Good read, don't you think?  It contained the usual leftist/Democratic claptrap about "lies" and "exit plans", etc.

Now ... next up we have the letter from Cynthia Odiema.  You will notice that I have highlighted portions of Cynthia's letter by magically turning them red.  Read Cynthia's letter and see if you can figure out why I have turned certain portions red

Editor, Naples Daily News:

It's time to start responsibly coming home from Iraq. Stop the bloodbath. Save our troops and conserve precious lives of the people defending turf, autonomy, patrimony and their oil.

Iraq's no closer to stability than it was a year ago. Things keep getting worse.

More than 1,700 Americans have been killed and more than 12,000 mutilated. We don't even bother to keep count of Iraqi casualties in a war they didn't provoke.

The U.S. occupation is fueling a growing insurgency. Our presence exacerbates the problem. There are tens of thousands of insurgents backed by hundreds of thousands of supporters.

We got into this war based on lies - the wrong way. It's time to get out the right way.

Bush policy is out of touch with reality.

We need a real exit plan with a real timeline providing real accountability for our leaders. We need to turn control of the training of Iraqi forces and the rebuilding of Iraq over to the international community. And we must renounce permanent military bases in Iraq. Justifiably that angers more than just Iraqi people, sending a bad message to the rest of the world.

These colors don't run ... the world!

The Bush administration spends billions to kill children overseas, but is a cheapskate with education at home.

He asked for $80 billion to fund the war, and fancy that, $79 billion is being cut from social benefits here.

- Cynthia Odierna / Naples

Ahhhh.  You picked up on it right away, didn't you?  That's because you listen to talk radio.  That makes you just a bit brighter than the average letter writer to The Naples Daily News.  Yes ... in those highlighted portions Cynthia Odiema uses exactly the same wording  as did Kevin Kittle in his letter!  You will notice, I'm sure, some minor alterations to mask the plagiarism, but the process here is clear.  Now the government-school-educated typical Democratic voter might tell you that Cynthia and Kevin just accidentally happened onto the same wording because they are kindred spirits in the effort to make the world save for Islamic despots!  You will excuse us if we think otherwise, for the truth here is that both Kevin and Cynthia went to some website or to some email message they received, downloaded the basic text of their letters to the editor, and then made some superficial changes to create the illusion of an individual and independent effort!  Cynthia is just a bit further into the left's looneyism than is Kevin because she added her feelings that Bush's intention is to kill children overseas, and somehow forgot that spending on education has gone up by more than 40% during Bush's years in office.  No matter.  By the time we got to that point in Cynthia's letter we weren't expecting cogent thought anyway.

Amazing!  The left just loves to talk about we talk show hosts getting our talking points from Karl Rove, and here is all the proof you need that Democrats who write letters to the editors of various newspapers aren't even able to express their own thoughts!  They have to take some sort of a form letter provided to them by their Democratic operatives .. and then they wrack their brains trying to personalize those letters by adding a word here, a word there, a quick accusation about killing children ... and presto!  Your own opinion printed in the pages of The Naples Daily News?

Wouldn't it be fun to engage Cynthia and Kevin in some sort of a debate while denying them access to their party-provided crib notes?

Come on Cynthia and Kevin!  Spill the beans!  We want to know who told you what to write!  Where did you get the basic template?  And the most important question ----- are either one of you capable of forming a rational thought on your own?

Just wondering.

Update!  Fear not!  The Boortz listeners have found the source of Cynthia and Kevin's letter!  It came from Moveon.org.  The very same letter showed up in literally hundreds of newspapers nationwide! So .. now you know.  When you read a letter from some Democrat slamming Bush or our efforts in Iraq it could very well be another Moveon.org cut-and-paste letter writing campaign!   By the way, Cynthia Odierna is a teacher at the Naples High School.  She teaches writing and French.  I wonder if in her writing classes she teaches plagiarism.

By the way ... I took a quick glance at the letters to the editor this morning ... more of the same.  We have one Gloria DeTomaso blaming the London attacks on George Bush and demanding his impeachment, and one Robert Divale praising the words of George Galloway and raising the "war for oil" flag.  Then there's Art Herman, obviously a retired rocket scientist, saying that he might like to move to Iceland to escape the Southwest Florida heat ... but he's afraid Bush might attack Iceland while he's there.  Here's a link to today's letter ... but be warned, the Naples Daily News requires registration.  Use "blahblahblah" as your user name and "trial" as your password and you're in --- until, that is, the IT folks disable that particular registration.

HEATHER'S FANS

I'm starting to get a bit jealous.  Heather is getting a much higher percentage of positive mail than I am .. like this, for instance:

Subject:        Heather
Name:           William
Message:
Dear High priest,
I just wanted to drop you a quick note regarding your new intern. I don't have a clue as to what she looks like. She could walk up and kick me in the nether regions and I wouldn't have a clue as to who she was, and frankly I don't care. I've got to tell you Neal, I am in love with that woman. She is so on target with everything she writes, I mean, so far I can't name one thing I've disagreed with her on.
Whatever it takes to keep her on, DO IT! If you need help paying her I'll start sending you a check every month, just don't let her go.
Thanks, Mr. Boortz!
William
P.S. I'm always going to listen to you again.

And so ... with that high praise ... we now take you to .....

HEATHER'S CORNER!

Safety in Colors

Where is the real security in the alert levels? The Department of Homeland Security has raised the terror alert level to Orange. Does that make you feel safer? The government has not only played with our sense of security but also with our sense of intelligence.

When a terrorist attack occurs, the use of a red alert is too late. We are supposed to be prepared? The levels only affect our travels. So if you are on a plane, anywhere, or if you are in another country, anywhere, or if you are on a bus, anywhere, then you are at risk. The only so-called "safe harbor" would be your house and maybe your front yard. With the see-saw effect of the terror scale, how do we take it serious? Have YOU actually done something to make yourself safer?

Heightened security to DHS means additional law enforcement , bomb sniffing dogs, more video surveillance ( not subject to the Fourth Amendment), spot testing certain areas ( such as stopping grandmas in airports), additional perimeter barriers (are those border patrols? Because they don't work) and extra intrusion detection equipment ( please, spare no expense.)

Maybe this is all a ploy from the Left. If they make us fear terror, then they push for more reliance on the government. The government will now suggest to you that they are protecting you when they x-ray your car at every stop light. The government will now suggest that you are safer when a man-eating dog sniffs your butt as you get on the morning bus. Didn't the government tell us we would be safer if... oh wait that was Hillary, never mind.

We harp that the government is supposed to protect us. The government is supposed to protect our individual freedoms. They are, but with the red, white and blue of our troops not the rainbow of a scare-scale.

Yeah sure, we are real safe. Let me wrap myself up in my red alert blanket, and set up camp in my bedroom. I'll be fine. Alert levels, on the other hand, are crap.

What are we wasting money on this week? The color orange.

(And just what alert level do we have to get to before our security forces will actually say the hell with political correctness and start profiling to find the Islamic radical bastards who want to kill us?  Neal)

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

Why waste precious muscle movements pulling up or on a parking brake when nature is just standing around doing nothing? Put it to work! More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Here is the full transcript of Tony Blair's comments concerning the Islamic terrorist attack in London.  Here are Bush's comments from the G8 in Scotland.

John McCain has the right idea.  What do we do about Al-Qaeda terrorists?  Find out where they breed and take the fight there.

Sources say Rehnquist is about to hang up his Supreme Court robe.  That's two nominees for George Bush and he's got 3 1/2 more years to go.  Diaper sales and calls to suicide hotlines amongst leftists are sure to reach an all-time high.

Saddam Hussein's lawyer has thrown in the towel.
The good news for the Butcher of Baghdad is that there are at least 1,500 other people ready to pick up the slack.

A former CIA expert says the London train bombings are an ominous sign
for the United States.  He says if the Islamic terrorists can get through British security, ours will be no problem.

Despite what the appeasers are going to say, Christopher Hitchens says you can't blame Iraq for the bombings in London.  It was only a matter of time.

Richard Cohen has an idea for a Supreme Court justice
to replace Sandra Day O'Connor.  Surely his pick can do no worse than what we've been subjected to already.

Nancy Pelosi, leader of the House Democrats, is in a bit of a pickle. Turns out she has accepted some free trips from lobbyists that she hasn't reported. I thought only Tom DeLay did things like this?  Debra Saunders reports.

Besides Alberto Gonzalez, who else might Bush nominate to the high court?  George Will has a name, and an explanation of why he would be a good choice.  Government school warning: there's lots of big words in this one.

The same people who complain about any criticism of judges over judicial activism are the same people who will stop at nothing to smear a nominee with lies.  Thomas Sowell weighs in with part III of his series on judicial havoc.

Heather's reading assignments:

Sniffing out everything on the farm except the kitchen sink.

I'm not a history major, although I am realizing now that I should have been.

Sometimes people do stupid things. Ok a lot of people do. For future reference, don't ever try this in an airport when on a raised terror alert.

Only "substantial?" Geez what a cheapskate! And they strike down another good deed because certainly he could afford more, right?

Do not wear walkman-type earphones, especially at night, while driving. They can prevent you from hearing what is going on around you. How the heck is talking on a "hands-free" cell phone any better? Caution: This stupid-human law could be coming to a street near you!

WHAT THE HECK ARE THOSE POINTY HAND THINGS?

These are links to each individual story on the Nuze, p-links for the geeks out there. Plus, they work today and they'll work tomorrow. Now you can easily discuss/debate/rip apart the Nuze without worrying about the links going bad. Enjoy!
